Hey guys,

I just came back about 2.5 weeks ago to the game after my long break since Feb 2009. So far I've gotten:
- My BLU to 90
- All BLU spells to 90 except reaving wind, magic barrier, final sting, everyone's grudge
- WAR and NIN sub to 49
- 150k+ cruor
- 2 slots for atma (need 4 more zone boss kills)
- MM, SS, dark depths, and other misc. atma from Atma fabricant

I think that's all the relevant abyssea-related stuff.
My gear hasn't been updated by much. I've gotten a DMG+8 firmament for a place holder until I finished some of magian weather swords. There are some other stuff I want to talk about, but let's cut it off at this point

I know FFXI has been toned down a lot since I left, but what sucks when I returned is I almost never see anyone on when I come back from my work in the evening due to I'm playing from asia time zone now. So now I can only group with them on the weekend only.

So I'm thinking if I'll ever able to solo some of the Mavi seals (except body, maybe.. that kinda need groups) given my current situation. Which NM should I target for each kind of seal?

P.S: Is it true you really need RR to get your vorpal outdamage sanguine? Because until now, I still can't see how my vorpal can outdamage my 1k+ sanguine with MM and SS atma combo.

RR adds Dex (for dDex) and a bonus to damage done by Crits. Yes, it will occasionally let VB do more than SB, but I still prefer my trusty SB.

As far as mobs to solo for seals, I don't think I can help that much. I've always "duo'd" with my brother (both of us DB). However, what I can say is that I've slowly been building an evasion set for my BLU and it works far better than I would have thought. Evasion Bonus (from /DNC if I'm serious about trying to tank) helps, as does Feather Barrier. There's also a good assortment of Evasion gear we get access to. It's something to consider.

I quested all my body seals and got pretty lucky on them. "Slacking subordinates."

I quested most of my leg seals, since the quest is really **** easy, if not slightly pricey if you get unlucky. The bat NM that drops them is pretty easy also. I never tried to fight it straight up, but it's a joke to kite (though too long for my taste without !!).

Head seals I got from Whiro. It's pretty easy, but I haven't tried to solo. Maybe I'll see what it's like since I need whm seals anyway.

Feet from Chhir Batti. He's a stingy ****** even with !! in my experience, but a very easy solo. I've done it /dnc and /rdm using a regen atma. It casts paralyga, but it's not particularly potent.

I haven't gone out of my way for any hand seals yet, actually, but I've got a few from random quests and dom ops.

Hey,
Thanks for all the replies.

Zell: How long you took for completing 1 quest of "Slacking subordinate". I tried "Look out Below" for the way of getting mavi seal body, but it took kinda long (6 minutes in abyssea per run)

For the legs seal (asanbosam), is it a good idea to kite and keep disseverment DoT on it once melee-ing is hard to do?

You can do the lost chocobo quest for head seals, and trade murex spicules for leg seals

Chhir Batti is soloable, but works much nicer in a duo,

Personally, My vorpals put out consistently higher dmg than Sanguine, (1250)...but I still typically use sanguine anyway for the HP (and I do regularly use RR)

The "standard" (if blue really had one) set for atmas is MM,VV,RR. This will push vorpal slight past SB. That being said, with other atmas SB can far outdamage VB. It all just depends what you are doing.

BLU/WAR with MM, Cosmos, and Sea Daughter with a high PDT set makes a great solo/tank. It allows you to maintain very high def, while rotating Actinic Burst, Occulation, Cocoon, and Auroral Drape as defensive spells, while rotating QC, Delta Thrust for Offense. While all this casting is going on, Sea Daughter lets your TP still tic up rather quickly for SB to be used for massive healing/damage (with that setup should be around 2500 damage / 1875 heal with a martial). If you feel like you are giving too much TP, just hit Delta thrust once instead of spaming (for Plague) and then hit Reaving Wind whenever appropriate. This setup basically slows the fight down and allows you to dictate the pace, which runs into contrast of what blue normal does (kill it before it kills you).
This has allowed me to solo a vast number of NMs (even some odd ones I cant solo on DNC).

PS - Welcome back!

From BG, I agreed with most of the NM he would recommend. I would add Whiro to Head seals and Emperador de Altepa to body seals as well.

Quote:
I believe I can help you with this, as I recently returned from a long hiatus as well.

Your order seems about correct, although I did my legs/feet/head before quitting.

Head/Legs/Feet: Best to duo/trio in most cases (duo even if you can solo usually, if you can get a BLM to come proc yellow)

Legs:
(Paper) Cep-Kamuy in Misareaux.
(Coin/Card) Ciren-Croin, Sobek, Glavoid

Feet:
(Paper) Chhir Batti in Vunkerl. I did this at 85, but I bet it's pretty duoable now.
(Coin/Card) Carabosse.

Head:
(Paper) Kharon in Attowha. Again, definetly duoable by any melee and a healer.
(Coin/Card) Itzpapalotl. People need it for Empyrean upgrade, always people doing this.

Body:
(Paper) Dhorme Khimaira in Uleguerand Range. I got mine when LS ran through a bunch, and got the remainder of my seals from teaming up with /sh JP. I would suggest either buying the pop items on the AH, or XPing/cleaving chests for the pop items.
(Coin/Card) Orthrus/Sobek/Bukhis.

Hands: Your choice. Wyvern, Mandy and Snoll all had poor BLU seal drop rates for me, I did about 20 of them all together before I got my hand seals.
(Coin/Card) Dragua.

The general trend from here is: Papers for Head/Legs/Feet are quick as **** to get from forced spawned NMs with quick repops, where the mobs near the ??? drop the pop item, Body/Hands are the same deal but a bit more difficult, but can usually be 3-4 manned.

All upgrade coins come from popular Empyrean Weapon upgrade NMs.

All of our new spells coupled with insane refresh in Abyssea has opened up a lot of creativity. I've seen "Reduce tp" spells spammed to nearly elimate tp moves, doc's turtle up technique, evasion soloing, and a lot more of the magical spells. The new ones (Charged Whisker, Thermal Pulse, Everyone's Grudge) are much stronger. You can kill a whole group of mobs with a huge AoE hit all at once /rdm.

I would look into getting an Almace/Emp+2. It opens up a whole different side of blu that does not make it reliant on mp to do some serious damage. Equipment outside of Mavi+2 set includes Aias Bonnet, Twilight Belt, Atheling Mantle, and Epona's Ring.

Enjoy destroying everything in Abyssea!

Hey, thanks again for the replies.

What about some of the equips? Other than AF 3 +1/+2, I know:
- Aias bonet
- Epona's Ring
- Atheling's Mantle
- Twilight's belt
- Hecate's earring (got it)
- Heafoc Mitts
- Elemental WS belt
- Elemental sachet
are the things I need to get.

Am I missing something? I'm in particular looking for replacement of my old vorpal gear.

Loki's kaftan, zelus tiara, anguinus belt might interest you, off the top of my head.

Slacking subordinates... I think I just did it a few times after work for a few nights. I used brd/blm for mazurka and just warped out after I was done and teleported back. It's faster than running back outside the maw. It took about 4-5 minutes for each run from Port Jeuno to the reward I couldn't even guess how many runs it took to get the seals.

Edit: Isador is a decent sword if you don't want to mess around with moogle junk right away.

Serpentes cuffs/feet are decently good, too, as idle pieces. Feet are refresh day/regen nights. Cuffs are opposite. Love having 5/tic refresh without spells going while idle.

As for slacking subordinates.... I must be an exception. going on 37 runs and I've only seen 1 BLU and 1 PLD seals so far. 2 RDM. And only one other one. I currently hate that quest. I really wish that you have better success than I've had with it.

I might try to kill some Asanbosam and Whiro this weekend, any recommendation on atma (with just 2 slot)/gear setup? (Probably master crafter for movement speed+ and MM for unlimited MP?)

1 question about Whiro: How do you avoid linking with the other efts around the pop area?

I've been killing whiro solo this afternoon, actually. The first time I messed up and ended up with no refresh atma or battery charge set and /dnc. I used a dusty elixir and finished it off, but it kinda sucked. It's pretty easy blu/rdm with MM/Mounted Champion/whatever (I used Apocalypse for triple attack for extra sanguine blade and because quick magic makes me laugh. Not the best choice, but it doesn't matter.)

Sanguine blade isn't resisted at all by this thing, although it does hit moderately hard for such a lowly NM. I just kept cocoon up, benthic typhoon on it, flashed it regularly and spammed sanguine blade when CA timer wasn't up. I use regeneration, also, and haven't had to cure myself. Using a -PDT shamshir +2 and a DA khanda +2 and normal TP gear.

As for the links, you can just wait for it to wander to the edge and hope you get a clean pull, kill the sh*t in between you and it and hope it doesn't go deeper in, or link a bunch of them, sleep them, gravity whiro and conflux out and back and grab it before it wanders back.

I've only kited asanbosam, so I can't say much about it.

Edit: I think I like Apocalypse better than the obvious alternatives. -___-
