I reactivated my account last week after being gone for a year (when the cap was still 75 and there were no magian trials) and want to have BLU as my main job I play. I've already hit 90, gotten almost all the merits I need, got all the trigger spells I didn't have for weaknesses, getting the spells above 75, have two atma slots, one refresh atma, etc. So, basically, I'm set to go for bigger and better things.

I have a few questions:

-How can I tell if I've actually accepted a Magian trial? I got two Sideswords from the moogle, but I'd like to know if I'm actually on the quest before I go and camp some NMs.

-If I ran across those NMs for the magian weapon trials in Nyzul Isle, would they count there?

-Is two attacks 2-4 times swords a bad idea for a Chain Affinity spamming build? Offhand only?

-Are NIN and THF the only "viable" subjobs still? Does anyone use /RDM, and in what kind of situations would I use it? I'm finding it very hard to run out of MP in Abyssea with only a 5mp/tic refresh atma so far. Applications outside Abyssea? Does anyone still do anything outside Abyssea anyway?

-Any other advice? I'm going to try to find some people on Siren to do Abyssea with as I currently do not have a linkshell.

Thanks for any help you could give me.

If you are on a magian trial the weapon itself will have gold text stamped on it "Trial 115" or whatever yours might be. I am not sure about the nyzul isle thing, would like to say yes but I think the answer is no.

As to the rest it sounds like you have a good handle on what to do, just use your best judgement for the situation at hand. Any sub can have uses.

I use 2-4 hit in offhand, the base damage on it is pretty low but is nice for tp spam and you can get dual wield ability with any subjob.

Welcome back to the game hope this helps a little, good luck in your adventures!

Ok, my weapons do not have a gold stamp or trial number on them as far as I know. I won't be able to check until I get home tomorrow. I think I might be missing something obvious about how to actually start the trial on the weapons. But I'll check when I get in tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply.

After acquiring the weapons you then then trade to the moogle near the crate and treasure box and he will give you a list of trials to undertake. Pick on and read the details (basically what to kill and how many) and choose end confirmation. He will then ask undertake such and such trial?. Say yes and he will start casting his trial spell incantation on the weapon. Hope this helps. Also cant start same exact trial if you want to dual wield. Basically the trial 150 which is kill Serpopard( i take forever to pop sometimes)Ishtar. Can be done on both swords but you must stagger them. In other words finish the first trial and when you are on say trial 151 then you can undertake trial 150 again on other sword. So you would have 2 side swords but one will be on trial 150 and the other on trial 151.

Ok, I need to trade them to the chest. That's what I was missing. Thanks somuch.

Yeah, not looking forward to camping NMs, especially having to do it separately for each sword.

also, in relation to one of your questions, the Notorious Monsters in Nyzul Isle don't count towards trial kills.

you trade them to the moogle, not the chest.
