Man, you have a lot of gear. Can't match half of that stuff. Anyway, yeah, Myriads is a really cool person. We have lots of talks when he's on, and we merit on Imps from time to time.

Cripes...it's been so long since I've leveled BLU (BLU 53) that I'm not sure if I can remember it. Well, here goes.

Assume that spell is being learnt at or around level it can be learned unless otherwise noted.

Difficulty Rating(DR) 1-10.
1 being the easiest and 10 being a right pain in the arse.

Sandspin: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 6
I gave it a 6 because the worms tend to use everything else BUT Sandspin.

Foot Kick: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 1

Pollen: West/East Sarutabaruta. DR = 4
The bees had a tendency to use Sharp Sting and Final Sting alot.

Power Attack: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 1

Sprout Smack: North/South Gustaberg. DR = 2
I gave it a 2 because I hate Gustaberg. >.>

Wild Oats: West/East Sarutabaruta. DR = 1

Metallic Body: West/East Sarutabaruta. DR = 3.
Took a few tries before I learned it.

Cocoon: West/East Sarutabaruta. DR = 8.
The poison move...Considering I was too cheap to buy antidotes...I don't wanna talk about it. >.>

Queasyshroom: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 8.
See above. Only...this time I was HOPING for the poison move. >.>

Battle Dance: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 1.

Head Butt: North/South Gustaberg. DR = 1.
Still hate Gustaberg. I feel bad for you Bastokans.

Feather Storm: Giddeus. DR = 5.
This one seemed to give me and Xerog (miss you, buddy) trouble. The Yags seemed to rarely use it and when they did, we didn't see that golden text after. ;_;

Helldive: West/East Sarutabaruta. DR = 1.

Healing Breeze: Tahrongi Canyon. DR = 10.
Took me a couple of freaking WEEKS to learn.
Mainly because the Dhalmels loved stomping on me, staring (SILENCE), and whistling.

Sheep Song: West/East Ronfaure. DR = 1.

Bludgeon: Outer Horutoto Ruins. DR = 8.
I saw DealOut so many times it wasn't funny.

Cursed Sphere: Valkurm Dunes. DR = 1.

Blastbomb: (Fort?) Ghelsba (Outpost?). DR = 1.

Blood Drain: Valkurm Dunes. DR = 1.

Claw Cyclone: Jugner Forest. DR = 4.
Had a LVL 40+ WHM helping me out. (Thanks, Melisel!)

Posion Breath: Gusgen Mines. DR =1.

Soporific: Carpenter's Landing. DR = 2.
Had a LVL 40+ WHM helping me out. (Thanks, Melisel!)

Screwdriver: Jugner Forest. DR = 1.

Bomb Toss: Yhoator Jungle. DR = 3.
Learned it in a party after Head Butt missed. >.>

Grand Slam: Qufim Isle. DR = 1.

Wild Carrot: Bibiki Bay. DR = 1.
I was around LVL 45+...I think.

Sound Blast: Meriphataud Mountains. DR = 9.
1: Those SOB's spawn area is annoying to get to. 2: They like to silence you.
3: It took a few tries. 4: I made the mistake of attacking the cockatrice NM.

Chaotic Eye: Meriphataud Mountains. DR = 6.
Chaotic Eye itself is silence. TURN AROUND. They can use a strong paralyze.

Death Ray: Ranguemont Pass. DR = 4.
Was in my first BLU learning party.

Smite Of Rage: Qufim Isle. DR = 3.
Nearly bought the farm fighting a weapon. A kind high-level WHM threw me a Cure VI. Learned spell afterwards.

Digest: Inner Horutoto Ruins. DR = 1.

Pinecone Bomb: Jugner Forest. DR = 7.
Only a couple of spawns and they were strong enough to kick my butt if I wasn't careful. ANOTHER problem is these guys tend to be farmed by rude high-levels for thier Mistletoe.

Jet Stream: Qufim Isle. DR = 1.

Uppercut: Pashow Marshlands. DR = 3.
Goobues here tend to be farmed.

Blank Gaze: Yhoator Jungle. DR = 1.
I was around 45+.

Mysterious Light: Lower Delkfutt's Tower. DR = 2.
Learned as part of a BLU learning party.

Terror Touch: Gusgen Mines. DR = 1.

Venom Shell: Purgonorgo Isle(I think that's what it's called.) DR = 7.
I had a high-level RDM friend of mine help.
(Sorry we didn't get any of those shells for you, Cleaver. ;_;)

MP Drainkiss: Jugner Forest. DR = 1.

Mandibular Bite: Attowha Chasm. DR = 4.
Tried soloing it first. Later dragged a LVL 75 MNK friend of mine.
(Thanks, Virothix!)

Blitzstrahl: Lower Delkfutt's Tower. DR = 3.
Learned as part of a BLU-learning party.

Stinking Gas: Phomiuna Aqueducts. DR = 4.
The Doomed in question was on a 15 minute timer, was only one of it's kind, I nearly died a few times (I was by myself.) and it was in a capped zone.

Magnetite Cloud: Altepa Desert. DR = 6.
I had my NPC out helping me by healing me. Antican silence SUCKS.

Geist Wall: Bibiki Bay. DR = 1.
WARNING. The Eft NM there will kill you.

Awful Eye: Lufaise Meadows. DR = 3.
The Bugards aren't TOO bad. Just don't go too far.

Sickle Slash: Korolloka (Sp?) Tunnel. DR = 1.

Blood Saber: Gusgen Mines. DR = 1.

Refueling: Mt. Zhaoyolm(sp?)(I think) The place where you fight Eruca. DR = 6. I asked my high-level MNK friend and he dragged some of his LS mates along for the ride. (Thanks, Virothix!)

Jettatura: Riverne (the 40 cap one). DR = 8.
Tried duoing with a WHM in the 50 cap Riverne. No dice. Went to 40 cap one with a NIN who sucesfully tanked them for me. (Thanks, Whitelightning!)

Frightful Roar: Uleguerand Range. DR = 10.
My high-level MNK friend to the rescue. XD He tanked them as MNK/NIN and I went as BLU/WHM to heal him. Unluckily, he got hit with Mortal Ray midcast of Utsu.
Naturally, after he died, the Taur came after me. I learned it but I think I stayed to help him farm them for a bit afterwards. That's when we died. It's hard to remember.

Ice Break: Beaucedine Glacier. DR = 4.
Stun the self-destruct move. I REPEAT, STUN THE SELF-DESTRUCT MOVE.

Self-Destruct: Gusgen Mines. DR = 3.
I just was unlucky, really. It took a couple of hours to learn.

Filamented Hold: Uncapped Pso'Xja. DR = 2.
My high-level MNK friend helped me out again.

Cold Wave: Uncapped Pso'Xja. DR = 4.
I had a high-level RDM friend of mine help me out. (Thanks, Havah!)
Stun the SD move. To avoid damage and to give you more of a chance to learn CW.

From this point forward I was around LVL 48-54.
I hit LVL 54, learned the LVL 58 spells and deleveled. Fun. (>.>)b

Hecatomb Wave: Xarcabard. DR = 3.
At first, my MNK friend tried to help, and I died and HPd. A little later on, I went along with a higher level BLU (I can't recall who he was. ;_;) and along the way I learned HW.

Radiant Breath: Bhaflau Thickets. DR = 10.
Ah, how I hated this spell. I still do. With a passion. At first, I tried to solo the wyverns in the 50 cap Riverne. Barely dented it's HP. So I started shouting for help. There were 2 people who were killing the wyverns there and they flat out refused me when I asked if I could join up with them. I later found out that they were hunting an NM. They were still rude. You know who you are. >.> Me and a WHM tried duoing them and we got wiped out. I gave up for a while and later on, my MNK friend took me to Labyrinth Of Onzozo to learn off the wyverns in there. The spawn rate sucked and he wound up taking me and a few of his LSmates to B. Thickets. Once there, we killed Skoffins. After an hour or so, I learned Radiant Breath. (THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS!) As a side note, the EXP/Merit party that was there saw that if our gimpy little party can deal with Skoffins, so could they. lol XD

Feather Barrier: Altepa Desert/Riverne. I can't remember which one. DR = 4.
In either situation, I had help and they hit hard. Prolly best learned in a BLU party.

Flying Hip Press: Oldton Movalpolos. DR = 1.

Light Of Penance: Yhoator Jungle. DR = 7.
Just bring along an RR earring or something, watch your HPs, and DON'T go in there with Tonberry Hate.

Magic Fruit: Yhoator Jungle. DR = 3.
The monkeys...(Opo-opos, sorry) tended to have self-preservation last on thier list of priorities. >.>

...and I'm LVLing THF and NIN before I lvl BLU anymore. Will update later.

EDITED for a mistake. Credited the wrong RDM. XD

UPDATE July 1, 2007:

Death Scissors: Altepa Desert. DR = 2.
I was having trouble learning it and I wanted it badly. (I get popped for 400+ from an EP with it!) Hit 56, put my AF Hands on...learned it second try.

Dimensional Death: The Eldieme Necropolis. DR = 5.
Bad luck with this one. Not learning it, just getting it in general. The Shadows were DC to me at the time but I could take it with minimal problems.
I forgot one thing, though. Undead have nightmarishly long blood aggro range.
So when my HPs dropped to red because of a well timed Dimensional Death...I had 2 wolves and another Shadow on me near instantly. >< I knew I was gonna die so I spammed every spell I had, killed the Shadow, learned Dimensional Death...and died seconds later. :X

Eyes On Me: Beaucedine Glacier. DR = 3.
The Bat Eyes are less of a risk than the Eyes in Xarcabard. Just keep your HPs up because Eyes On Me hurts. Even from an EP. ><

Bad Breath: Rolanberry Fields. DR = 6.
This spell...I tried learning as soon as I hit 54. No luck. I'd try for a few hours a night each time for a week. Got to 56...and wore my AF Hands. Learned it second time it was used. >.>

Maelstrom: Open Sea Route To Al Zahbi. DR = 5.
The problem with Maelstrom was that most of the Kraken monsters were WAY too weak and died WAY too fast. Needless to say, they used Hard Membrane, the Regen move, the Tentacle move and Whirlwind(?). I took the ride to Zahbi at 57 and a different colored Kraken spawned. I shrugged my shoulders and attacked it anyway. 3rd TP Move in, it used Maelstrom and after I killed it, I learned it.

Feather Tickle: Wajaom Woodlands. I think. DR = 1.
Not much to say here. Hit 58 in an EXP party, put my Jubbah on and learned it at the end of the first fight with it on. >.>

Yawn: Boat Ride to Nashmau. DR = 2.
The App...ap...penguin-knockoffs spawned, I attacked them, they used Yawn. A lot. Got it first fight with them. Was trying for the Imp move...they never used it. Ever. >.>

Currently at 59. If anyone wants to lend a hand with my spells post 61, send me a tell. I'm on Titan and my char's name is Georgis. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Needless to say, I'm not leveling anymore until I'm caught up with my spells. -_-;

I am currently level 57 with capped blue magic skill. I have been killing Young Opos CONSTANTLY for 4 HOURS, and I have seen magic fruit just SIX times. Needless to say, despite learning light of penance first kill, which tonberries spam, I have not learned magic fruit, which Opos barely use. If blu/nin could skillup H2H, I would be capped 20x over by now. Somebody kill me please.

Wow, that really sucks to hear. ;;

I know this goes without saying, but, you are using your AF hands as well, right? Just asking because, I know, I've forgotten mine a time or two on mistake.

Well, keep at it, I'm certain you'll get it eventually. I had the same issues, even this late in the game, when I was trying to learn Memento Mori.

after 5 hours, I joined a party, got 58, put on my af body, and learnt it from the second monkey. Then I joined another party and got 2k to 60 at a rate of 12k/hr lol. Now, its Death Scissor's turn - 1 hour and counting so far lol.

Atleast I have auto-refresh, af body, and vermillion now.

Well, my bad luck did not continue. After hitting 63 and getting Rip on the 3rd time I saw it, I soloed to 64, and took out the 75RDM/BLU I have access to to do some spell hunting.

1/1 Sandspray (the lone qiqirn in halvung entrance)
1/1 Enervation (1st troll outside in bhaflau)
1/1 Diamondhide (2nd troll outside in bhaflau)
1/1 Fire Spit (1st Mamool next to the mamook entrance)
1/1 Warmup (2nd mamool next to the mamook entrance)

This is all just into 64 without capped Blue Magic for my level. Please god let this luck continue!

{Congratulations!}, Good stuff, I hope your lucky streak continues as well. You're in position now as well, to complete your spell list whenever you see fit. Hope you have good times doing so.

Enjoy it while you can. After it's all said and done (if you're anything like me and some of my closest friends), you'll miss it when it's all over. ^^

At first, it was taking me a while to learn these spells. So, I switched to an old method I used to use. I ended up doing the "beat down to a sliver of life, then just wait for the move. AS SOON as the move is used on you, kill instantly" method, and learned both moves 1/1 doing so, o.0. Don't know if that made a difference, but it certainly worked.

I'm not sure if i accidentally skipped over something in your post, but I don't remember a different method being mentioned. If theres anything that seems to work faster than that, please, do tell <_<;

Aside from that, this is a really good reference guide. I got so worried when I didn't learn my spells by level 3, only to see that most blu learn them at around level 5+. Thanks a bunch :D

The other method I was talking about Miiake, was just the standard try to last as long as possible way. Mob still has plenty of life left and all. For whatever reason (this is not fact, it's my opinion), I tended to learn spells much faster, when I killed the mob closer to when it used the move I needed. Each time was a coincedence I'm sure, but, it still happened for me that way nonetheless.

It "seemed" like, when I tried to fight monsters in a standard way, if they used the move, then I killed it a while later (just meaning not close to usage), I "tended" to not learn the moves more often. Hunts where I killed the mob shortly (like within the next 5-10seconds or so) after usage, I learned within 1-5 tries max. Of course that didn't happen "every" single time, but, a lot more often than not. It's just my style, and I continue to believe that.

Best of luck on your hunts, and thanks for the compliment. I currently have a friend who's working on an EXCELLENT Blu spell guide, that I can't wait to have previledge to have linked to my thread. Once he's done, and wants to release it to the public, please be sure to take a look at it. I'm sure it well help you more than you could imagine. If not, feel free to use my thread in conjuction with his, to help you learn every spell you need, at the time you need it. That's what my thread is all about (on-time spell learning).

I'll keep track if you post each time. I watch my thread closely. ^^

honestly can't say it feels like when a mob uses a move in a fight made any kind of difference. for ones I could solo I'd always whittle down to like 15% hp and turn around and spam dia on them to do 1-2 damage while letting them wail on me. when they finally do it, if at all, i still wouldn't learn. had plenty of others where they ws'd early on and i got the skill at the end of the fight. i think its just dumb luck once your blu skill is in range.

I totally agree with you. It's just the syle I used, because it "seemed" to yield better results. That's why I always quote "seemed," because I don't want people to misunderstand me, and think I'm saying it's law or anything.

Hello folks,

Nicest mentioned that I was working on a Blue Magic Spell Guide. I have been!

You can find it here: http://70.85.147.102/blu/BLUMain.html

I want to thank Nicest, who is on Phoenix like me, for all his support as I worked on this, and the info he's gotten people to gather here in this thread.

I hope that it helps everyone in when they go off on spell hunts.

Nicest, please feel free to link the site in your OP in the thread. I would be honored.

Hello, I just have a few questions on Body Slam.

At the moment, I'm a lvl 62 blu. I've been at this lvl for awhile... I know I'm weird, but I don't want to lvl until I get Body Slam lol.

I've been taking your advice, trying to find 3 75 smn to kite the Dahaks. Here's where I'm a bit confused:
1) First off, I was wondering if 2 smn could do this? I've found 2 lvl 75 smn friends, and I can't seem to find a 3rd. =/ Would going with 2 be too dangerous?
2) What avatars would the smn use? Carbuncle, Fenrir, Avatar of the day?
3) I'm sort of lost as to how they would kill the Dahak. Send avatars at it one after the other, and fight the dragon head on?
4) Where do you fight? Near where you first zone in, or by the wamouras?

Sorry, I just want to be fully prepared for when I take on a Dahak! =)
Thank you for any and all replies.

Edit: A 75 rdm friend just told me she'd help bind/gravity/sleep/refresh. Would that change anything?

Sorry for the late replay Jordann, but, I'm not usually on the forums during the weekends, but, if you havn't gotten it yet, here goes....

Truth be told, 1 Smn "can" solo it. For a long time, we only had one Smn. By himself, he got it down to about 7% or so. So, just making a few adjustments here and there, and he could've won no problem (long fights though). That being said, I KNOW 2 Smns could do it also. 3 (in my case) was just a sure fire win, hands down.

Now, for what they did, and where we camped....

We camped right at the zone, when you first come in, by the tunnel. Just in case things got crazy, we could zone if need be. What the Smns did, was call out a avatar, make it attack. Ran FAR out of range, and waited for the avatar to die. Then, when it did, just recasted again (that's why they ran so far away). Rinse and repeat over and over and over again, until it eventually dies. Now, I wasn't just going to stand there, so, I casted anything I could, that would help the fight anyway possible (some of this is covered in the OP, after you scroll down into the description section). Because of my level, none of my physical spells would work, so, I only casted breath spells, or magic "type" spells. Those at least did "something."

By all means, use any enfeebles possible that you can get to land. Another bonus about fighting near the zone, was that, if/when I did get any hate at all, I just zoned for safety. Dahaks use Body Slam A LOT. Just make sure you're back in the zone again by the time it dies. Seeing Body Slam again before it dies, isn't something uncommon at all (at least in my case it wasn't).

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any more questions you see fit. I'm here all day/week.

Thanks for the replies Nicest and Myriads. They clarified a lot of things, and I'm just about ready to take those dragons.

I have 2 more questions though:
1) What avatars should the summoners use? I'm thinking Fenrir, but maybe another avatar works better against them... I don't know.
2) How much damage do the blood pacts do? Just to plan when to use them for the killing blow.

P.S. - I love the blue mage hunting grounds, I've used it for every spell I get since it came out ^^.

If I remember correctly, Carby was the main avatar. Because of the length of the battle, Carby mitts seem to be the answer for MP issues. Don't quote me on that, at the time I got this done, my Smn was only 32 (66 now). Which ever avatar the smns decide to use, just prepare for a lengthy battle.

Also, as far as BPs, use them at your own risk. When the Smns that helped me tried to use BPs, that action alone would be enough to steal hate, and they would take quite a beating sometimes.

For ways you can help if you decide to do so, I'll just repost my experience from the OP....

============================================================================

Body Slam - That's right, Body Slam. I'm a new proud owner of this spell at level 63 *flexes*, and my friend Ulicia level 67. Okay, here we go. First off, we knew we were going the Smn route. I also advise, whoever can spare it, come /Nin. Body Slam only takes down 2 shadows. If it can be spared, even the Smns can /Nin, and let the Blus heal (if they can trust them that well). Blus can definitely /Nin, thereby assuring there safety while zoning in and out (I'll explain later).....

Plan A, basically involving the Taru Smn (Kamehameha) soloing. That actually was working fine, but, any mistake at all, would prove fatal for the Smn. Lots of risk involved, but doable. Though we never actually killed any going this route, I know it can be done. Several attempts, kept getting it to about 10-15% HP, but, then something would happen and result in our loss, ;;.

Plan B, was pretty much like plan A, but, we had a Rng with us. Since camp is SO close to the zone (When you get to where the Dahaks are, you'll know where we camped, just inside the zone), the Rng decided to spam some Zerg dmg on the mob, then, just head for the zone. This sped the dmg up A LOT (Barrage 576dmg, Slugshot for 550dmg, then zone). Still, in the end, wasn't enough. A little closer this time, but, around 5-10% HP mark, turmoil ensued. Now, time to pull out the big guns. No more messing around now. I call in more Smn reinforcements. Two more show up (Arrode and Chronus). Now, there are 5 of us (The Mnk from earlier, changed to the current Rng we had, who needed to leave now). So now it's (Me 63Blu, Ulicia 67Blu, Kamehameha 75Smn, Arrode 75Smn, and Chronus 75Smn).

Plan C now, Kamehameha informed the other two Smns as what was to come. If you've never been here before, or fought these, you really don't know. It's not just your average shadow dragon fight. The first fight, still resulted in a loss, but, that was just because it was new to everyone, so, didn't know what all to do exactly. Ha ha, but that all changed (experience is sometimes the best teacher). Every fight after that one....OWNED! Those mobs CAN NOT mess with three 75 Smns. Especially good ones (Yeah, that was my shout out to you three, ^^). Now, it was just a matter of time in waiting to learn. I strongly advise Smns to kite kill. Every attempt at using BPs during the fight, proved VERY risky, and dangerous. If you really want to BP, then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, be very careful. The Smn grabs a lot of hate, just for using a BP, and sometimes proved fatal, or near fatal (Except for finishing blow BPs). Now that the strategy is down pact, here's the Blu's role in all this (Yes, you can help out):

Just be supportive. The Smns can heal themselves, but, they're doing so much as is, it wouldn't hurt to help out. Use the zerg strategy from before. Toss a couple Magic Fruits, and zone if you get hate. You can avoid hate by casting out of range. Also, if you want to do some dmg, after a few experiments, we found some spells that helped and performed well.

(Ulicia, 67Blu)

Frost Breath - Did GREAT dmg when unresisted. Average somewhere around 400-430dmg or so I believe.

1000 Needles - Leave this one alone.

I forget what all her other numbers did, because, eventually, she started casting Frost Breath only, and then healing and zoning with me.

(Nicest, 63Blu)

Mysterious Light - was well rejoiced from the Smns. It stuck every cast with no resists (not saying that it won't get resisted, just saying mine didn't).

Bad Breath - landed once, unresisted for 141dmg. Only around 30-50dmg every time there after. Some debuffs took place as well, although, I can't say which.

1000 Needles - Ummmm, leave that alone. 0% landed.

Magnetite Cloud - I just figured, might as well. It did less dmg than Mysterious Light, but, was still gravity effective.

Radiant Breath - Bascially, another breath spell. Doing dmg anyway possible, so 30-50dmg, meh, I'll take it, ^^.

Poison Breath - Did around 17dmg or so.

So, there you have it. My most recent farming adventure. I had lots of fun, and I'm VERY HAPPY to be amongst the very small community of Blus, with Body Slam pre-75. I'm not an elitist or anything like that, I just like being complete. So, if it's not your cup of tea, don't worry about it (I don't judge people like that). Have fun, and let me know if anyone else comes up with, or has different strategies for defeating the Dahaks in Mount Zhayolm.

Special special thanks, to Ulicia, Kamehameha, Arrode, and Chronus. Thanks for helping me out on such a dangerous task, with nothing but bragging rights (basically), as the reward, /kneel.

Blu OWNS!

===============================================================================

Take what you want from that, and see in what ways you can try to help them out. I know the gravity effects, will be more than useful. In my experience, once we got up to 3 Smns, it was a piece of cake for them, although, they still couldn's stand around and spam BPs though. Just proved too dangerous. They did get them in when they could though.

GL, hope you get to learn it. ^^

{Body Slam} O today!

After trying for days to set a time when the smn, rdm, and I are all online, I sort of gave up trying.

Today, though, a blu friend of mine decided to shout for body slam. We got a full alliance of 18 after about 40 min. Those dahaks are nasty, even with 18 people... half of the alliance was dead at one point. In the end we killed 4 dahaks, and everybody got the spell. ^^

The dragon WS list helped wonders, btw. Thanks!

The first spells always tend to take a bit to learn, as one has often not capped Blue Magic Skill which plays a big part in speed of learning. I always recommend that the very first spell that a BLU should learn is Pollen, and then skill-up spam it near a mog door til the magic skill is capped. Then further learning gets a bit simpler!

Yeah, pretty much what Myriads said, is the more efficient way to learn spells in the early game. There are other methods, but capping your skill right away, and using the MH to replenish your MP quickly, would be most efficient.

Sweet! More spells...{All right!}

Well, It's been a while, hasn't everyone? Finally, some more spell hunting. I don't know how many Blus are like me, but I really miss spell hunting. I was very excited to embark myself on yet another journey. I came back for one night, and managed to gather them all, in just a few hours. Well, without further delay, here goes (listed in order I learned them)...

Corrosive Ooze - Fought in Passhow Marshlands [S]: Well, I went out with a friend of mine, and duoed (2Blus). These can be soloed as well...no biggie. These didn't cause any problems for us what so ever. Fair warning though, they do have a move that can knock ALL of your equipment off, and keep you from putting it back on for uite a bit of time. I think it was around 1min or so (give or take). Keep in mind, one of the hardest parts about learning their ability, may not be the difficulty of the fight, but have more so to do with, at the time of the killing, there's a good chance that you won't have your AF hands equipped, due to the previous forementioned ability. 1/1 (AF hands)

Regurgitation - Fought in Passhow Marshlands [S]: I LOVED fighting these mobs. They have a move that I've yet to see in FFXI at all. These I "suggest" you fight with your back to them (very familiar tactic to those who spam BCNM 40 Under Observation). Once again, we duoed (2Blus) these. Though I didn't try, I think these can be soloed fairly decently. It poses a bigger threat than the Oozes though. If you're hit with Delta Strike, and you have no defenses curently active, you could be biting the dust. That though, isn't the worst of it. They have a "perma" petrify move (as my friend Ulicia put it). Basically, they have a petrifying stare, that once activated, doesn't go away. If you ever turn and look at it while it's eyes are lit up, you're good as petrified. This move is continuous, so, don't think you'll be waiting for it to go off and such. 1/1 (Af hands)

Spiral Spin - Fought in the first beginning parts of Jugner Forest [S], zoning in from Batallia Downs [S}: Meh, not too much to say about these. Was in the same duo, and we beat the crap out of it very quickly, and it did use the move, during which time I learned. Ummm, so, yeah. Easy fight in that setup. 1/1 (Af hands)

Asuran Claws - Fought in Jugner Forest [S], where you have to run through Vunker Inlet to get to first: There's several different levels of these "type" mobs. Basically, we hunted the ones called Lobisons. These can be very hard/nasty mobs. I don't suggest trying to solo these by ANY means, unless you're just out to ultimately challenge yourself, and wow the forums or something. To make things easier, you can target/pull the one's that are already standing up. That way, you don't have to go through the trouble of having someone voking it to make it stand up (at least that's the rumor to making it stand up as of now). On our way there, we grabbed several others who were all looking for this spell. All in all, I think we had a total of 8 people on these attempts (6Blus, a Rdm, and one other, I can't think of what that person was at the moment), although we did kill one with just 5 or six of us (4Blus and a Rdm...one wasn't really fighting, thinking he needed to hold back to let it build TP...noooooo, don't do this). These have several abilities that will hurt quite a bit if caught off guard. Asuran Claws being one of them...Nox Blast has reportedly been very damaging as well. Those are the only two I remember, as they both made quite an impression by killing someone upon usage. They also have an ability to heal themselves ridiculously. I mean, I'm not sure if it's reminiscent of Exuviation type healing or what, I just know, don't be surprised to see these bad boys heal themselves upwards to 1500+ at a time, and multiple times at that. Be careful on these, and plan to kill with all you have. 1/2 (Af hands)

Seedspray - Not too much here either. We were planning to hunt these in a Sarutabaruta [S] zone, but saw one otw there in Meriphataud Mountains [s]: Well, upon seeing this one, I had two others with me (another Blu and a Rdm). Well, we saw this one, beat it down really quickly (like the ladybug earlier for Spiral Spin), and learned it right away. So, not much to say here. 1/1 (Af hands)

Once again, back to complete status, and I wish all those hoeful Blus out there good luck. Just remember, everyone doesn't have what it takes to get all of these done. So, just remember, if you can do so, you're a little different than most who don't have what it takes. This makes a Blu, well.....a Blu. :P

Blu owns!

*Special thanks to Premier (The Blu with me the whole time), and Madamex (The Rdm with me the whole time...always there taking care of me). Also, to Ulicia for providing me some brief information before I headed out to hunt for myself.

Me again. BLU70 now. Update to my spell learning list:

Spiral Spin: Ronfaure [S]. DR = 2
Did it at 69 on the Ladybugs there. No problems here. They do aggro if you're low enough during the day. I say that because I was told they don't.

Seedspray: Sarutabaruta [S]. DR = 2
Did it at 69. No problems here.

Memento Mori: Attowha Chasm. DR = 8
This spell is HORRIBLE to get. The Corse are fond of spamming dangerous spells and Silence Seal sucks. Not to mention they charm people. If you're in a spell party, it's IMPERATIVE someone goes /WHM and stays out of Silence Seal range. Everyone has to have a sleep spell set. EVERYONE. No exceptions.

1000 Needles: the lower level Altepa Desert. DR = 2
Went /SMN. Had Metallic Body up. No problems here. Well...if you don't have an avatar out, you're gonna die. Unless you have 1001 HP or metallic body up, that is.

Frenetic Rip: Caedarva Mire. DR = 9
Imps...blow. I spent a couple weeks killing the Orderly Imps in the graveyard trying for this spell until a high level BLU named Barash came out to help. One Vorpal Blade from him and the Imp lost it's horn. It used Frenetic Rip, I learned it afterwards.

Frypan: Oldton Movalpolos. DR = 1
Just go whack a Moblin, hope they use it and cross your fingers. Nothing to see here.

Hydro Shot: Yuhtunga Jungle. DR = 1
The Sahagin outside of the zone to Sea Serpent Grotto/Norg are easy pickings.

Voracious Trunk: Wajaom Woodlands? Bhaflau Thickets? DR = 6
Spell learning party. The Marid were basically soloed by a high level RDM.
The BLUs were on Chigoe extermination duty and basic DD duty. The RDM in question later said it was "fun" killing them. XD

Infrasonics: La Theine Plateau. DR = 1
I just picked a lizard, went fisticuffs on it and hoped it used Infrasonics. Your mileage may vary.

Zephyr Mantle: Wajaom Woodlands? Bhaflau Thickets? DR = 1
Was in an EXP party at the time. No worries on them not using it. They do. Alot.

Frost Breath: Uleguarand(?) Range. DR = 3-5
Needed this spell for G5. Was doing the Snoll fight at the time and the RDM in our party was bored so I asked if she wanted to help me learn Frost Breath. She said yes, we killed a few of them, I learned it at 69. I'm 1/3 on Raubahn, btw.

Sandspray: Caedarva Mire: DR = 2-4
That party I learned Frenetic Rip in, we also went for Sandspray as the monsters for it were right there. Took a few tries.

Corrosive Ooze: Rolanberry Fields [S]: DR = 3
I was BLU70 at the time and I guess I got lucky and they never used the stripga move. Corrosive Ooze was used quite a few times. So no trouble here.

Diamondhide: Wajaom Woodlands? Bhaflau Thickets? DR = 5
Need a spell learning party. No exceptions. Apart from needing people, not much difficulty, really. They use it fairly reliably. Just make sure it's the armored ones before you kill them. One of the parties I was in, a couple of the BLUs just couldn't get it through their heads that the armored ones teach Diamondhide and the non-armored ones taught Enervation.

Enervation: See above.

Warm-Up: Mamook. DR = 6
Need a party. These guys tended to be evasive enough without Warm-Up so if they use it, dispel it ASAP. Just make sure it's the brown skinned ones before you waste them.

Firespit: Mamook. DR = 6
Took a few parties before I finally learned this. Again, just make sure it's the right type.

Tailslap: Arrapago Reef. DR = 8
The zone sucks. The monsters suck. The undead suck. Did I mention the zone sucks? That being said, the Merrow tend to have this kinda low on their priorities. They do use it often enough but you can go a fight or two without seeing it.

Hysteric Barrage: Arrapago Reef. DR = 8
Bad zone. As for the monsters, it's yet another "break weapon" spell. It took me a week of joining spell parties before I learned it. Just make sure it's a Lamia and not a Merrow.

Regurgitation: Grauberg [S]. DR = 6
Peistes are not fun. Took a few deaths before I got lucky and saw another BLU with the same idea I had. We teamed up and the fights were easier. Learned it fairly quickly.

Amplification: Mount Zhayolm? Halvung? DR = 5
Need a party. I remember they love to cast -ga spells. They do use Amplification quite a bit so no problems there, really.

Cannonball: Mount Zhayolm? Halvung? DR = 6
Just watch for the Blaze Spikes or Enfire thing. Needed a party for it.

Asuran Claws: Jugner Forest [S]. DR = 8
The Lobisons gave the party I was in such a hard time. Only bright side is we all learned it fairly quickly. And yes, don't forget someone has to go /WAR for provoke. And prolly set Jettattura or Exuviation, if you have it. I remember those spells have a pretty high hate to them. At least that's what I read.

Lowing: Ulegurand Range. DR = 3
There were lower level Buffalo there that were DC to me at 69/70 (I can't remember.). No real problems because I got it in the Snoll mission party.

Heat Breath: The lower level Altepa desert. DR = 1
Got it while farming for Manticore Hairs. No problems here.

Disseverment: Al'Ta...Al'Ta...the first area of Sea. DR = 6
Got it at 70. I was BLU/NIN and I had just recently gotten Sea. I was soloing them with some difficulty. Spamming Head Butt/Frenetic Rip/Head Butt/Hysteric Barrage is key here. Finally got a BRD Ul'Aern. Remember to set Soporific in case you need a breather and bring some Antidotes. Unless you like dying that is. First time it used it, I was midcast on Soporific so it went off before they used Disseverment. >.> Second time it used it, I let it hit me with it. Took my shadows, ate my SS and I lived. Killed it, learned Disseverment (yay!), poison killed me moments later (...shut up.). Oh, btw. I had Signet on and that helps TREMENDOUSLY when trying to keep TP to hit the Aerns with CA Vorpal Blade + Hysteric Barrage.

Saline Coat: First area of Sea. DR = 4
Quite a few of the Ul'Xzomits were DC to me so I could take them with a little difficulty. Took a few of them and a couple sightings of Saline Coat before I learned it. Because I had Signet on, DCs/EMs were not too much of a problem.

Temporal Shift: First area of Sea. DR = 3
It helps to have Signet on to fight EMs with and to debuff them before actually engaging them. Apart from that, when the Ul'Phemdes open their mouths, hit them with Hysteric Barrage or Frenetic Rip to shorten the fight time.

Plasma Charge: First area of Sea. DR = 6
I got lucky again because a 75NIN was soloing them for organs. I asked him if I could join and he invited me. I tried to keep him alive via Magic Fruit/Diamondhide and helped with DD spells. Remember to dispel Shock Spikes. It took a few tries, but I learned it. Thank you very much, Vio.

And I'm working on the few spells I have left. ...Spinal Cleave and Body Slam are a pain to get people to go for and when you do, it's hard to get them to stay. :/ Just a warning. No, I don't have them yet.

My push to 75 is over. I'm working on Merits now.
The last few spells I got since the last time I posted in this thread are:

Spinal Cleave: Finally got a group together. The monsters aren't hard. You just have to put up with that horrible zone I privately call "Illripyoursoulout Reef".

Actinic Burst: Got it while on my linkshell's "Finish COP" drive. The little balls are EVERYWHERE and the hard part is NOT learning it. They're just that common.

Magic Hammer: While participating in Campaing to get my last few levels, I checked West Sarutabaruta [S] periodically for foggy weather. Just a warning:
do NOT wear your Scorp Harness while fighting the Poroggo here. Thier spells and levels are high enough to put a dent in your HP even in the 70+ range. The -Ice resistance from the Scorp Harness can be potentially fatal.
...yeah. I did die to them. Shut up. >.>

Reactor Cool: Learned this during my LSs COP push. Thier not nearly as common as the balls, but are not exactly rare. You can find them easily enough. Hell, you have to fight 4 of them in a BC. Still, I'd bring your Magus Bazubands just in case. (I didn't like fighting them. Can you tell?)

Vertical Cleave: This spell is actually a pain. It can be duoed easily enough, but soloed? I heard stories of people doing that, but not me. Maybe I just suck. :/ ANYWAY, a RDM from my LS lent a hand (her name escapes me atm. God I'm failing horribly today.). The spawns aren't hard to get to, but the respawn times are annoying. Like 15 minutes or more. It helps to have Erase because the flower's slow is EVIL. Also, Vertical Cleave ignores shadows so have Cocoon/SS up, if possible. Regurgitation is great for when you need to back up, recast shadows, SS, etc.

Only spells I'm missing for now is: Body Slam, Mind Blast, lolRamcharge and Exuviation. I'll get Ram Charge when I have no other spells to learn. As for the rest, I've just about given up on Body Slam. Noone shouting for it and I can't seem to get people to come along when I shout for it. Mind Blast, I could prolly badger some friends of mine to come along and Exuviation? Some fellow BLUs I know need the spell too so I'ma wait til they're done with what they're doing before I ask them.

Next time I post, it'll be an edit rather than a new post. Promise.

I've officially retired my Blue Mage
I've learned all spells I only basically use it
to help ls friends out, or to get merits
in campaign, etc.

I've also got enchainment, assimilation, convergence, and diffusion merits for Blue Mage.
But... the first one doesn't seem incredibly useful.

I'm in such a good mood. Gawd... getting some of the spells like magic hammer, jettura, radiant breath, memento mori, exuviation were a bitch ...and it feels good to be one of the few with all the spells.

hmm... I really wish SE would change something about the spells. Most seem a tad useless... exuviation was hard to learn... and it don't recover that much HP... and when you have 2-3 debuffs on ...it's rather unfair to have a moth... regain about 15-20% of their life...
and then when you use it...
you don't even regain about 1%. (wtf?)

why even give a blu a spell if
your going to make it worthless....

But I guess what they say is true...
'A copy is never as good as the original version.'
a copy-technique would be slightly diluted and weaker
compared to the source of where it comes from.
Or where it was perfected. ...but while it might be slightly weaker... I doubt it would be completely useless. >.>

Congratulations Georgis! Keep up the good work.

Runsaber, I agree with you on that particular spell, but the copy quote only works for some of them. For the most part, Blus out shine the original (well, on the spells we use most). I mean, our copied version of Frenetic Rip, Hysteric Barrage, Disseverment, Vertical Cleave, Death Scissors, Sickle Slash, Head Butt, Pinecomb Bomb, so forth and so on, are better than the originals I think. The quote definitely proves itself more evident with other spells, but you have to admit, we enhanced a lot of spells, and made them much greater than people thought we'd ever do. :)

I had a few questions...i hope somone can help ^^
I just got BLu yesterday and well.... i have been having an enormous difficulty learning any spells. After asking around i was told i had to kill the mob after it used the spell but in order to learn it i had to have my characters back to the mob. Ater all the advice i got and tried i figured ok try this too....well surely enough .....NOTHING. i still havent learned but one spell and that one was entirely on accident . Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Sorry I'm late with a replay Leafjoy, I didn't notice there was a new post.

No, 100% fiction that you have to have your back to the mob (what in the world).

It can be difficult when you first start Blu, because you have absolutely no Blu skill at all. After you do finally get your first spell, cast it like no tomorrow. Cap your Blu skill as soon as possible. Afterwards, that "should" help you learn your spells better (it's still a HUGE game of chance).

If you really like Blu, just stick with it. It's a rough road "in the beginning," but the payoff once you've stuck through it is HUGE. Once you're around your mid 30s, spells become much easier to learn, but by then, you'll have noticed your power, and love/hate the job by then. If you havn't, then once you reach lvl 40 and get Chain Affinity, all questions of your power are answered.

Good Luck to you, and let me know if I helped you at all. Now get out there and cap your Blu skill with the one spell you currently have, and get back on the road to 75!

Oh yeah...Blue owns!

Did PM8-1 last night (finally) allowing me access to Palace of H. So after I figured I'd farm my missing sea spells (Alrdy had diss/plasma/saline). Temporal shift, Actinic Burst, Vertical Cleave with no AF hands, took no more than 2 hours.

Then I went for Reactor Cool(Last spell now I think). I killed the little bish but was overcome by some pretty strengthy poison without antidotes(had I thought ahead I would have brought some). Didn't see the spell but DID notice I had somehow got to 75 without Diamondhide :S.

A quick trip to Bhaflau Thickets outside AU and 2 kills later I got that too :)

Quite a productive night :) Reactor Cool today I guess lol.
I'm actually glad I never bothered with AF Hands, since the lvl they are equipable I haven't struggled to learn a single spell without them. (lucky me I guess)
Wish I'd had them for Healing Breeze/Refueling though -.-
