Cool, keep at it Death, ^^

K, so, yesterday was my first day back on Blu in a while. Glad it wasn't bad at all. I picked up MP Drainkiss, Geist Wall, and Venom Shell.

MP Drainkiss - Glad it gave me credit for all the ones I fought before I paused my leveling. Gave it to me on my second one, ^^. I tried to learn from Qufim Island leeches, was like, 0/26 so far. Then, since the warp Taru was gone from Al Zhabi, I Tele-Mea(ed) myself, switch jobs in Windy, then, was going back to Qufim, but figured I could learn three spells if I just went to B. Peninsula, then swinging over to B. Bay, and P. Isle afterwards.

Venom Shell - Okay, a lot of people may hate me for saying this, but, I'm going to. Sorry, all the talk about "You can't solo this at 42" is a bunch of crap. I went expecting this to be some really hard battle. I was Blu/Whm, and it was nothing. Spam poisona, bludgeon when he comes out, dia, wild oats, and poison breath. "If" you come /whm, instead of loading up on some antidotes, load up on some MP drinks so you won't be caught AFTER the fight with too little MP to cast poisona. This got me once. I won the fight, but died because of low MP and no antidotes. Came back with drinks and antidotes, got it on second mob, and sold the antidotes on AH (didn't use any of them).

Geist Wall - Not much to tell here. Got it on second one. Fought the ones near the docks waiting on the manaclipper to come.

I'm STILL enjoying Blu very much, ^^.

Self-Destruct - Garlaige Citadel (I do NOT recommend learning it there, and I told my party same thing, was ignored ;_;) got that about 1/15 (they basically pulled both rooms at the same time)

Stinking Gas - Garlaige Citadel - Can not be trioed even with 2 NPCs out (we got it to 8% HP and had no MP left at all) ended up getting a NIN68 to lend a hand then helped a PLD get through a banishing gate so then the PLD helped out too XD then we had a BLM75 help out aswell XD XD

thanks alot Holyvagabond (NIN), Dodecyl (PLD), Wickedmind (BLM), Crowmohon (other BLU)

And now to get my level back >.>

I agree. Solo the bombs in Gusgen Mines. I learned the spell first try. In fact, Gusgen Mines is a great place to learn spells--I've soloed Poison Breath, Self-Destruct, Blood Saber and Terror Touch there.

Personally, I've learned spells a lot faster solo than in groups. I try to solo my spells whenever possible, but as I gain more levels, this becomes nigh impossible (I'm 53 atm).

Wooot!!!!!

I HAD AN INCREDIBLE WEEKEND on Blu. Starting from Friday, I learned, MP Drainkiss, Venom Shell, Stinking Gas, Blitzrahl, Mandibular Bite, Awful Eye, Geist Wall, Magnetite Cloud, Jettataru, Sickle Slash, AND Blood Saber, ^^.

I would've tried for Refueling during the Jettataru run, but, I forgot you need a scale to get to the clusters in Riverne A. So, do to me running out of time, I was unable to go through with all that. Now, I'm waiting for LS help to get Refueling from clusters in Mount Zhaloym(sp). I was informed it's easier, and quicker to get it from there instead. I'll let you guys know how that goes. Once I get that, I'll have all I need to xp from 43-49 non-stop, AND have all spells, ^^.

Blu owns, keep up the good work everyone, I'll update original post as well (as promised).

Ummm, wow, that's awesome Death. Hope your luck holds out. I havn't had TOO bad a time learning spells myself. As you can see from the OP. I havn't had the BEST of luck, but, not too bad either. For example, this past weekend, I had lots of good luck, ^^.

I had an amazing couple of days!!! Got head butt, hell dive, battle dance and sheep song after it was cast only ONCE!! I was totally shocked! Cocoon, however, took about 12 times before I learned it.

Since I started as a BLU I've learned 13 spells and I'm level 11. I don't expect this to last as I've 'heard' that the higher you get, the harder it is to learn spells.

I'm really enjoying this job!!! :)

Hmmm, that's actually a backwards statement. I'd say, the higher you get, the easier it is to learn spells KAC. If you want to though, form your own opinion about it. Look at my track record in the OP. Some spells take a while, but not many.

It gets easier as you go along, because, as you go along, your blue magic skills keep increasing. I've found (my opinion) the higher the skill, the quicker/better chance you have at learning.

By the way, I learned Refueling yesterday as well. It took two mobs, but, the first didn't use. When the second mob used it, I learned it. I'm all set to go str8 to 49-50 (probably 49, I usually have my spells learned before I hit the level).

Overall, glad to see you enjoying the job KAC, ^^.

Only took nicest 2 mobs (first use). Took 1 of the other blu's I believe it was 3rd or 4th mob. Both of them were elvaan. The 3rd blue... well lets just say I got over 1000xp on DC-EM mobs with 4-6 people in the party before he learned it. He was hume.

It just seemed odd to me that both the elvaan learned it in just a few mobs, while the hume took a lot longer.

(ps, I was the tank for this... wouldn't suggest trying this without high level help, since the mobs are level 74-75).

Thanks for easing that process for me, ^^. Would've probably taken longer, and required much more cooperation had I went to Riverne Site #AO1 to get it. Which is where I was originally going to go.

I just wanna say nicest that you have some good luck. I wish i had your learning curve. Do you have millionaires desk, 4 leaf, or other luck items? LOL, i know it sounds crazy but my learning curve is rather sparatic.

The most recent off the top of my head went something like this ....

50 Self-Destruct /6
50 Frightful Roar /1
52 Cold Wave /10
52 Filamented Hold /8
54 Hecatomb Wave /24
54 Radiant Breath /20
56 Feather Barrier /8+hrs no idea how many probably 90 or so
58 Magic Fruit /4
58 Flying Hip Press /4
58 Light of Penance /5
60 Death Scissors /20+
60 Dimensional Death /2
61 Maelstrom /20+
61 Eyes On Me /10
61 Bad Breath /2
62 Memento Mori ??? (1 try so far on NM lol)
62 Body Slam /8
62 1000 Needles /3
63 Spinal Cleave /3
63 Frenetic Rip /45 (mainly due to never using ability)
63 Frypan ??? (havn't hunted this one yet will soon)
63 Hydro Shot /4
64 Feather Tickle /during EXP so didnt pay attention
64 Yawn /40+
64 Voracious Trunk /15
65 Infrasonics /4
66 Frost Breath /12
66 Sandspray /3
67 Diamondhide /5
67 Enervation /1
68 Warm-Up ???
68 Firespit ???
69 Tail Slap ??? 10 so far
69 Hysteric Barrage ??? about same 10 so far
71 Heat Breath /3

I think its far too random some times. I farm spells at capped skill. Typically try to get spells 2-4 levels early. Some spells like feather barrier were learned 1 level early and took forever to learn. I'm LV68 now just as of last night, and need my mamoo spells. I hope everyone has had better luck than me lol. I spent countless hours farming spells @.@

Thanks, I'd say my luck is okay (don't want to jinx myself, :P). I've had some rough ones though, Pinecomb Bomb, MP Drainkiss, (couple others).

I may not have a large mob count per spell, but, I do spend lots of time farming. Maybe my mob count is lower than most people's, because (this is fact, and has been proven, not going to argue) EVERY mob I've tried to learn moves from WILL do the move. I read some people saying, such-and-such mob didn't/won't use the move I need. In my PERSONAL experience, every single mob I've pulled WILL use the move you need, but, ONLY if you give it time. So, I've spent 5-10min sometimes fighting some mobs (even now) giving it the chance to use the moves.

Sometimes when I'm hunting in parties, I can't help when the other members kill the mob before I'd like them to, it happens. When I'm soloing, or duoing with my steady Blu friend (Sparky, Phoenix server), EVERY SINGLE mob we pull DOES/WILL use the moves we need. Just a matter of time, and whether you can stay alive long enough. I'm no different than every one else though, if he's down to about 1-5% HP left, and uses some other move, I may just go ahead and kill (hence how some of my mob counts ARE high), but, majority of the time, that's not a problem. I don't mind waiting for it to do the move, just so long as I learn.

So, maybe it is just me, but, I guarantee, that anyone who comes spell hunting with me, will see that I can prove that to be true without a shadow of a doubt. I've done it since level 1. Maybe my mob count is low, but, my time put in is probably very much the same as others (I think I'm less fustrated though due to this method, who knows).

Good luck though, I hope to be around your level some time soon. I'm just getting back to leveling since taking my month break to get merits.

yea my PT last night for Spinal Cleave ... 75 BLU at start kept self SCing for massive DMG. How can we learn the ability if the sword doesn't break ... and it dies. Overall most farming PTs i join know to milk the monsters. I do think SE needs to make a fail-safe learning. Maybe an item we can buy and hold, food we can eat, something. Some spells i learn fast and other spells like feather barrier which sucks ... i spent sooooo long learning.

Recently hit level 48, and I LOVE IT (Sickle Slash & Refueling)! I can't appreciate the dark based magic burst spells like I wanted to, because we were fighting bats in Garliage Citadel, so, they didn't do much at all. I'm not taking anything away from those spells, because, I know it's just because the bats are dark based themselves, and have a HIGH resistance to dark based spells.

Yes sir! Three more spells down, (Ice Break, Self-Destruct, & Frightful Roar), :) .

Ice Break - wasn't bad really. I decided to bypass the ones in Glacier, ONLY because they are spread out (5 spawn points). I opted for the ones in Fei'Yin. Not too much of a better choice, since the ones in there are surrounded by mobs that'll aggro you by sound. Just have to be patient, and wait for safe pulling opportunities.

Self-Destruct - Man, I had heard about this one, and was hoping that I wouldn't become a statistic it taking forever to learn this one. I decided to try my hand in Gusgen Mines (Spunkie = Bomb). I WAS JUST ABOUT TO LEAVE. I was 0/9. I said, okay, if I don't learn on this next one, I'm going to try a place with higher level bombs. What do you know, I learned on the 10th one, :) . I was so glad I didn't have to go and learn from much higher ones, and risk death for me, and whoever else would've helped.

Frightful Roar - Well, I went ther with every intention on soloing this. I loaded up on Persiko's Au Laits, and Yag Drinks, but, just like the last time I went to Sacrarium to farm Codexes from these, there's always competition. When I got there, there was a Bst farming Codexes. Instead of competing, I just asked could we team up. He said okay (Thanks Epincus). Wasn't too bad since the Tauruses just spammed TP on the pet hecteyes he was charming. Once it used the move, I joined in the battle to kill it quickly. The two spawn points near the entrance are on a 16min timer (The Bst taught me that). Although, I could've sword it felt like a 10min timer to me, but anyway.

Now, I'm thinking about going for the level 52 spells, but, may wait until I level a bit more. Keep at it everyone, it's worth it, :) .

{Congratulations!} Death. Blu (we) own, :P.

If you available tonight by chance, my LS is doing a subligar run. You're welcome to come along if you'd like. Soon, if you want, it seems we could hunt spells together as well (You're leveling fast). I don't get to play every day, just about every other day. No matter, you'll soon be past me, and I'll be asking you what you did to learn what spells, :P.

Besides, once my Blu reaches level 60+, I plan on alternating my playtime back and forth between my Blu and my Drg. I'll hopefully be partying with an IRL friend of mine on both jobs.

No matter what happens though, I'll always update this thread until I'm complete with it. Some people still tend to use it and benefit from it. Lol, some people know me now from this thread alone, ^^.

{All Right!} so, I set out to learn Cold Wave and Filamented Hold. IMO, the best place to solo this is in the furthese NE tower in B. Glacier. It's the uncapped Pso'Xja zone, but, you can find two Diremites, and two Snolls right near the entrance (you can zone "if" you need to). At level 50, both of these mobs con as easy prey.

Cold Wave - Proved not to be a problem. I learned that farily quickly (1/2 to be exact). Ummm, so, yeah, not much to say about that. I didn't even have the problem of having to stun the "self-Destruct" move they use.

Filamented Hold - Thus far, I'm 0/9. Filamented hold sucks to "try" and learn, because, once they use it on you, there's nothing you can do about it if you don't have erase available to you (whether you use it somehow, or someone else casting it on you). Evan haste casted on you from a level 75 won't reverse the effects. So, I'm still going at it. I'll continue trying this coming Thurs, and I'll post results.

Blu power!!!

This is my current setup. At these levels (personally, please don't flame me), I don't swap in/out so many slots as most do. I do all that stuff later on when I notice HUGE number differences. With my current setup, my numbers are averaging around

Red Lotus Blade 100% TP - 100-150dmg
Sickle Slash - 200-280dmg
Death Ray Magic Burst - 200-221dmg

on IT mobs.

Main: Combat Caster Sword +2 (no swap)
Sub: Combat Caster Sword +2 (I swap in a club when I level, to keep club skills capped along the way) (no swap)
Ammo: Olibanum Sachet (no swap)
Head: Valkyrie's Mask (no swap, unless I'm main puller, then Emperor's Hairpin)
Neck: Spike Necklace (swap in Holy Phial for Healing Breezes)
Ear1: Beetle Earring +1, Moldavite Earring on MB
Ear2: Beetle Earring +1 (no swap, unless I'm main puller, then, dual evasion earrings)
Body: Brigandine (I hate this equip) (no swap)
Hands: Elvaan RSE (no swap)
Ring1: Rajas Ring (swapping this is Blasphemous, :P)
Ring2: Venerer Ring (no swap)
Back: Red Cape +1
Waist: Life Belt (sold my sword belt +1 at level 48)
Legs: Elvaan RSE (no swap, Garrison Hose is fine too)
Feet: Elvaan RSE (no swap)

I use Sole Sushi exclusively, and, as stated earlier on in this thread, I've managed to finally cap my Str, MP, Crit. Hit Rate, and Evasion merits.

Some will not approve of my equip setup, but, I do well in my parties, and havn't had any complaints. I "think" my dmg numbers are respectable as well. If I find I'm behind in the loop, I'll step it up, but, as for now, I think I'm fine.

As far as suggestions, hmmm, I really don't like to tell people what to wear/buy. I just let them know what I'm using, and my results. I'd rather everyone just enjoy the game (so long as you ARE doing your role in the party). If your numbers are good Death, then use whatever equips you'd like. Only worry about it, if the party complains, or you're not living up to your own standards.

Oh yeah.......Blu owns, :P.

Lol, I'm not surprised Death, ^^. You'll be passing me no problem. I don't play everyday (IRL marriage not having that, :P).

Sunday - Maybe 2hrs. of playing time, then Dynamis. That 2hrs. is rare.
Monday - Every other, 5:30pm til whenever
Tuesday - Every other, 5:30pm til whenever
Wednesday - none
Thursday - 5:30pm til whenever
Friday - none
Saturday - every other SUPER EARLY mornings. I usually play every Sat., but, not for the same length of time each time. Log anywhere between 12-4pm. Then, usually spend family time. Every other Sat. though, I get to get a REALLY early start on Sat. mornings. Those days, are highly productive, ^^.

So, I won't be surprised if you pass me, and I start having questions for you soon, :P. I make the best of it during the time I play though, ^^.

Whoa! {Congratulations!}

I wanted to go for my subligar too, but, plans fell threw on my attempt. Besides, when I go for mine, I'm going to need two (currently have the blm subligar quest open, -_-). So, I'll get to that best I can. Also, I still REALLY trying to find help to learn Radiant Breath before I hit level 54 (I'm like 4k aways, ;;). Looks like, I JUST might be hitting 54 without it, ;;.

I'm trying to look at it the same way Feyd, it's just not my style to do so (obviously not yours either, we're just unfortunate at the time). Looks like I'll be following your foot steps though. I will have Hecatomb Wave and Feather Barrier. I plan on farming those next time I log on.

Woot! Alright, I had a VERY successful spell hunting session last night...

Hecatomb Wave - Met up with a Blu friend of mine, and tackled this spell really quickly. Tele-Vahzl, ran to a camp just north of the crystal. Mobs were Decent Challanges to me, and Even Matches to my friend. Fights were easy. People should have no problems with this one.

Radiant Breath - Woot! The reason I was so excited to update my thread today. I DID NOT have to level past 54 to get it, ^^. I'm still 3k TNL to 54 at the moment. I gathered together some people yesterday, and we knocked it down. Turned out WAY more successful than I planned. Originally, it was me and two other Blus. One of them didn't have R. #B01 access, ;;. That sucked. What sucked worse, was when we recruited a random Nin out there soloing (He was soloing in #A01. We were there helping a friend of mine learn Jettataru). The Nin agreed to help us in R. #B01, but, just as everyone gathered to go in, he ditched us, ;;. I got a little doubtful when he left, but, wanted to stick with it. I did a /sea 50-54 all Blu. I saw some avaialable, but, only 1 responded. Then, I just knew a few Blu friends who needed it from before, and hoped they still did. Anyway, they did, and we ended up having a 5 Blu party. The 5 of us went in. I asked that EVERYONE equip Healing Breeze (just in case). Then, we all selected enfeebling spells that another person didn't have equipped, so we could maximize crippling these wyverns. Also, we planned to Head Butt spam (of course, I mean, that was kinda already understood). Of course, trying not to Head Butt Radiant Breath as well. Now, the actual fights......LMAO, Wyvern vs. 5 Blus? What a joke. We didn't know what to expect, so, the first fight no one held back. The Wyvern died in about 35sec. It was crazy. He didn't even get a chance to do much of anything at all. Anyway, long story short, get some Blus together (who all have R. #B01 access), and go raid the place. Nothing there will be able to contain you all. A total of 5 of us set out to learn together, and a total of 5 of us walked away with our brand new shiny Radiant Breath Spell. We had a great time. Took about an hour or so for the 5th and last member to learn. He was JP too, ^^. I was glad to help out. On a side note, if you recruit any members who still need Jettataru and/or Feather Barrier, there are some Hippogryphs and G. Birds in the area as well. Some members still needed those, and between waiting for all the repops (we were killing them so fast), we pulled some of those to help them as well.

Feather Barrier - These have crazy potential to be rough on the soloer. It can be done, but, don't take any caution on these. If you decide to solo it, go old school on them. Beat them down to about 1-2% HP left "if" you want to take your time to let it use the move. Playing around with these TOO long can be fatal for you in the end if you're not careful. Triple attack, just isn't your friend. Still, they use Feather Barrier often, so, it's not a problem.

{All Right} (yes, I'm still a little excited) I'm still on my path to 75 "hopefully" complete all the way. I'm almost 90-95% sure I'm going to hit 75 without learning Body Slam on time, or even by that point. That's probably the only spell I'm more than willing to pass up during my process. It seems even 10 times harder to attain than Radiant Breath, as I was told I wouldn't even get Radiant Breath on time (Proved you people on my server wrong). Good luck, and keep at it everyone (updating OP now).

Oh yeah.......Blu owns, :P

Under-statement of the year goes to... Nicest!!! lol ^^

I spent about 5 hours over 3 days trying for that spell. Although your NPC 'can' help by curing you when set to a healing job (Soothing Healer in my case) do NOT rely on them to keep you alive. I wound up losing around 3,000 exp to these turkeys but at least my NPC reached level 49 >.>;. fed up after dying, yet again, I asked a BLU57 friend who already had the spell to give me had. She said ok but had to go to work shortly so we had to make it quick.

Got to Misareau Coast(sp?) and Lv.75s were beating the stuffing out of the birds. I found 1 and pulled it. A few hits into the fight it uses Feather Barrier (Yay). We spam it to death and BLU friend spams cures on me (hate the Gliding Strike or whatever). Killed it and learnt it off first mob with my friend -.-; typical.

Moral of the story is, "If a spell is being a pain in the arse, take a girl along with you. This game likes girls >.>;"

Lol {Congratulations!} Perim!

Nah, not really an understatement. If I didn't want to wait on them to use a move to learn, I could take them down without too much hassle. I'm not sure though, but, if I remember you correctly, you're the one that (at the moment) can't sub Nin, right? If I'm right, then that's why you had more trouble than I did. I mean, before I even started leveling Blu, I had LOTS of subs to choose from, ^^.

When I went, I max out evasion and /Nin. Plus, I have full evasion merits as well. They actually made a joke while we were there, saying, I didn't need hate, because the mob kept missing me too often. I think (if I remember correctly) you like to /Rdm. So, I could imagine your adventure for Feather Barrier was much harder than mine was. Also, I don't know what level you were when you attempted to learn it either (I was lvl 53).

Anyway, I'm glad you learned it though, ^^.

I can sub NIN but it's under leveled being level 24 BLU54/NIN24 tried it that way... NPC is a worse than a WHM without cures, because she wont cure until I've been dealt the killing blow half the time. I am sorta capable at maintaining shadows but Triple Attack will wipe them in 1 go.

The big buzzards have a huge wandering range and when no one else is farming them you can't run very far without linking if you're not careful(link = death 100%, unless you are capable of zoning to Sacrarium which I can't) I normally died from a link or double attack with both critical hits (-.-). Stun would never last long enough to let me recast Utsusemi and has anyone ever noticed that you get hit more often when trying to cast that spell? (-.-)

Without buffs a normal hit would land for 60-90 damage and a cirtical for upto 150 damage. With buffs 20-60 damage and criticals landing for around 100-120 damage. If you don't trust your NPC as far as you can throw her/him then sub RDM or WHM for cures.

Well, maybe the only difference between us was, me having max evasion merits (I don't know if you do or not). They do help and kick in a lot.

Also, I don't know what your spell setup was, or strat. I had Attack Bonus (Battle Dance + Uppercut), Defense Bonus (Grand Slam + Terror Touch), and Auto Regen (Healing Breeze + Sheep Song) on. I used Filamented Hold, Frightful Roar, Terror Touch, Sandspin, and Battle Dance each fight. Cocoon as needed, and spaming head butts. I fought them back in the little path you go through just before the wide opening. I never linked or anything there. I agree, if I had gotten a link, I would've died for sure. Also, I think I moved some spells around, because I wanted to equip MP drainkiss. These do have MP for you to drain.

Maybe it was just different for me, I don't know, but, they aren't THAT bad in my opinion. Just don't "play" with them TOO long. No argument on Triple Attack though. That move is DANGEROUS. If I call my NPC, then, I'll drag these birds. I've been talking about strictly soloing alone.

If I'd known that before hand that would have helped >.<

Usualy stratergy was alternate Bludgeon and Jetstream to feed them TP and throw in a Head Butt if they went a while without using a TP move or during the (wrong) TP moves animation to avoid being hit immediately after (I hate it when monsters do that).

With the exception of cocoon I don't tend to switch my spells between solo and exp (normally because it doesn't occur to me ><). I'm missing Frightful Roar and intend to get it in Sacrarium when I get access (CoP 3-3 at the moment).

Went to camp Light of Penance and Magic Fruit last night. I have no idea on how to provoke an Opo-opo into using Magic Fruit (I like the idea that you can increase the chances of a certain TP attack under certain conditions, forgot which thread mentioned it though). Having 100%+ TP seemed to increase the chances of Light of Penance.

Only saw Magic Fruit once and didn't learn. Learnt Light of Penance on last Tonberry before I logged off ^^. Was camping outside Temple of Uggalepih (sp?) as there are both Opo-opos and Tonberry in that area.

A note to anyone going to camp Tonberry... ... remember to reset your hate! >,<.

Edit: I have no jobs at level 75 so I have no merits. Highest job is RDM69 so I don't even have Savage Blade ready for when BLU is high enough to use it.

(Congratulations!) on level 52 Deathpain.

Save those Snoll Arms they sell 112k a stack on Carbuncle so possibly sell nice on your server too ^^

Edit: Might aswell tell you of my learning experience for Cold Wave. (Ready!)?

One day I was running around doing nothing as usual when someone asked me "(Ice Break) <insert Japanese text that I don't understan here>" well I gathered that what he meant was (Ice Break) (Do you need it?). So I respond with "(Ice Break) (Yes Please), (I don't speak any Japanese)" to which he responds "(I'm sorry) (Japanese)P(English)T(I'm sorry)" (or very close to that I may be slightly off) so naturally not wanting to an arse about it I respond "; ; (understood)".

So then I think stuff Ice Break I hate Golems, I'll go learn Filamented Hold and Cold Wave. Being cautious I pull the Diremites into an empty room that has a pit hole in it (later learnt they don't aggro or link). I learnt Filamented hold fairly quickly and was happy ^^. Then I start camping the 2 Snowballs and found that I could kill 1 rest to full go to the other room and the second Snowball would pop shortly after.

The Japanese party (the one that had turned me down) comes in and starts killing Diremites. They see me killing Snowballs and I get checked various times. Not wanting the competition the same guy who had said "(I'm sorry) (Japanese)P(English)T(I'm sorry)" asks if I want to party. (I'm evil by the way). I respond "(I don't speak any Japanese)" and I get the auto translate version of what he said "(Cold Wave) (Party) (Do you need it?)" (or to that effect). My response? "(Thanks for the offer but I will have to pass.)" I then proceeded to out pull them on every Snowball that popped (told you I was evil >.>)

Moral of the story? If you're going to out pull a JP party make sure you're at full HP that Hypothermic Blast is a b****! >,<

Hectatomb Wave is AoE wind damage with additional affect of Blind and cost 113MP. Most BLU don't use it because it has a reputation of being, well, not very useful.

It is also far easier to just go to Xarcabard at level 54 or so (level 52/53 if you really want the spell for when you hit 54) and learn it from the demons there (they're Easy Prey).

Edit: Just equipped it for fun, 191 damage to a Too Weak Young Opo-opo and 90 damage to a Too Weak Goblin Furrier. I have now unequipped it and don't expect to re-equip it, not much use for an AoE blind for 113MP.

Lol, {Congratulations!} Death. That's an interesting theory you have, :P. I don't need to post about my Cold Wave/Filamented Hold experiences. Already did a few posts back.

Wow, you're definitely off to a great start Netglen. I guess you havn't had to endure the early level "hard to learn" syndrome. That's cool.

Like Perim said, you can learn Hecatomb Wave much sooner than Dynamis if you go to Xarcabard. I posted about that a few posts back as well. Really easy, nothin to it.

Happy Hunting!!

.....Blu owns, ^^

Well I had some issues trying to learn Metallic Body, Sand Spin and Cocoon. It tooks forever to get these three abilities. In fact I didn't get Sand Spin until I was level 10. It just takes a lot of patience. Most of the time I would smack the mob a few times, go barehanded and let the mob wail on me. I can usually get the mob to cast three abilities on me before I get frustrated, kill it and move on to the next. If I'm going after animal abilities, I sub BST ahead of time and charm an identical mob that I want to learn from. Once my charm broke after a unsuccesful learning fight, my once charmed mob turned to me and instantly casted the ability that I wanted and I learned it. I'm guessing my charmed mob is building TP but can't release it until the charm breaks.

I must have been very lucky with Bludgeon and Blood Drain. Both times I would have to fight three sets of mobs close to each other. For the Cardigans I went BLU/WHM Cocooned up and went after three at once. When I reached the second set of Cardigans, I guess the mobs generated so much TP that I got hit with multiple Bludgeons. I learned the ability after the second battle. For the Blood Drain at L.12, I went BLU/BST and went to that King tomb near Sandy. There are tons of Mouse Bats in groups of 2-3 down below. I would charm one and have it fight the other two. TP built up pretty quick and I learned Blood Drain after the 4th encounter. But I did try learning Blood Drain from the Mouse Bats that come out at night in the areas around Sandy. I went through a dozen without any luck. I did cast Azure Lore during the encounter where I learned the BLood Drain just as I saw the message that it was being casted. Maybe it was luck that I leanred it since now I'm reading that AL doesn't influence the learning of new abilities.

Whatever, I'm finding Blue Mage to be a lot of fun. This is the third time that I'm coming back to the game and I'm finding BLU to be a refreshing change in job types. I also want to try Corsair and Puppet Master but I don't believe that I can solo those two unlock flag quests with a L.38 WHM or L.40 SMN. Am I wrong about that? My old LS vanished and I haven't found another LS yet to replace the old gang. :D

I have been trying to learn Bad Breath since lvl 54, now lvl 55, while seeking parties. Had this cast on me by Ochu at least 100 times with no learn so far. Historically it has never taken this long to learn any spell, even 9 lvls early I know BLU were able to learn spells about 10 lvls early...has anyone found that this changes post 50 or is this spell just giving me a hard time?

At level 50/51+ the level gap becomes 6 not 9/10 as it is with lower levels.

Wikipedia wrote:
You are less likely to learn blue magic that is too far (10 levels or more before 51, 6 levels or more after 51) above your level.

You are unable to learn Blue Magic if your Blue Magic Skill is 31 more more levels below the ability you wish to learn (the blue magic level of the ability you wish to learn is equal to the blue magic skill cap at the ability's level). This means that after level 51, when the increase in Blue Magic from level to level goes from +3 to +5, the level range at which you can learn spells decreases from around 10 to around 6. Therefore, you cannot learn Magic Fruit (58) at all until your Blue Magic is capped at level 52, you cannot learn Dimensional Death until it is capped at 54, etc.

It is possible to learn blue magic from monsters that never give XP (e.g. BCNM enemies, some quest NMs) "It Has Been Done"

You will not acquire blue magic if you are KO'd when a monster is defeated.

It is not necessary to be the target of a monster's special ability in order to learn blue magic.

Yeah, I'd wait a few levels for Bad Breath Feyd. Since the amount of xp needed to level up has changed, I've stopped hunting spells so far in advance. I now only hunt within 2-3 levels of a spell. Once I get within 1 level of it, I'll hunt it relentlessly.

Oh, okay Netglen. I see you've had some similar issues with certain spells like many others, that's cool. That still isn't as bad as some of the horror stories I've read in these forums. I've been told throughout my Blu career, I havn't had a bad time either (according to all of my numbers thus far). Also, yeah, I'm definitely NOT a firm believer in the Azure Lore trick either.

If you wanted to, you actually could solo Pup and Cor Netglen. I don't recall there being any fights involved, so, just like anything else above a player's level, your success rate depends on your ability to stealth yourself well. The quests all involve running around A LOT, but, I don't "recall" there being any fights involved. If there was, I'm just not remembering them at the moment. In my opinion, unlocking Cor was the most fun of all three new jobs (also most dangerous/long). Blu is my favorite to play, but Cor was my favorite to unlock. When I did it, it made me want to play/be a Cor really bad, lol.

I've only tried the 2HR once so I really can't give an opinion on it. But for damn sure I'll hit that 2HR button when I see Healing Breeze appears on my screen. But I'll need to grind a level or two before attempting to get Healing Breeze. I'm sure glad about those XP rings that they introduced into the game. Makes the early grind easy.
