Hey all,

So I have smn90 (summoning skill gimp still) with odin, or pup86. Any suggestions on what to shout for for an Alexander Prime run? I didn't see a thread in here that addressed this.

Also, are Thunder and Dark spirits worth buying? 700k combined on Asura.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the fight would be mostly a joke nowadays. You probably don't need to shout for anything in particular, just cover the basic roles.

Dark Spirit can be farmed solo, so I would assume that most of the cost is coming from Thunder Spirit, which is only available from BCNM20s (Wings of Fury and Shooting Fish) and Campaign spoils. Campaign is an extremely inconsistent way of getting it, so you might as well rule that out.

It seems like the simplest way of clearing Wings of Fury is with 2-3x BST, and the simplest way of completing Shooting Fish is with 2-3x SMNs. I don't know of any other surefire ways to win those fights.

Dark spirit has no purpose. Thunder can at least trigger grellow.

Dark can theoretically trigger it too.

Siphon. You know, because most of us only use spirits for that.

Oh yea. Easy to forget when you never run out of MP.

they're not really worth the cost of buying but you should get them even for siphons alone..

if you're bored you can always solo Shooting Fish BC20 on SMN. Just need Ramuh + Astral flow and Yagudo Drink...
it was one of those fun things i used to do

Yeah, believe it or not, some of us mages actually try to make use of the MP we can get rather than let it collect dust.

What a concept, right?

I believe you are trying to say you don't use refresh atmas.

You can still burn an MP pool with just a Refresh atma.

with the fact that u can use 3 lunar abyssite at once and that perp options on new gear are pretty generous, with the right gear and atma, it is nigh impossible to run out of MP even if you're using Astral Flow moves. but that is highly unnecessary.

If u've got minikin monstrosity, that should be enough to take care of your general MP/perp cost issues and you can dedicate any extra lunar abyssite to buffing your avatar for better dmg output.

in other words, elemental siphon is mostly useless in Abyssea.

Ward+Rage averages 300 MP, gear+/RDM+Minikin+traits 285 every 45s, Full Moon 210. Add on any extra spells and perp costs, and you're at a net loss of MP. Elemental Siphon covers that part, especially if you're not /RDM which still happens. If you're geared for physical, chances are you don't even have Minikin/Full Moon. And if you have more than 1 refresh atma, you're not maximizing magic damage. Granted that requires constant BPing (which you can and usually should do now), but the point is you can burn your MP pool even with an Atma, and Siphon covers it.

The last few times I've used Convert, it was actually to gain HP back instead of MP. Nice little trick if you're kiting an NM with full MP, and he lands a few blows getting you down to red HP and you don't have time to stop and Cure3 yourself back up. Just Convert and boom, full HP!

Mainly these days I rock three physical DD atma, ***** refresh. I only use Minikin if I'm soloing and won't necessarily be able to Refresh myself or stop to Siphon.
