2 years, many kills, some deaths, and tons of time. Shiki finally dropped it!
I have camped when no one was there and claimed and killed with no drop. I have camped against the whole server it seems. I have had claim stolen from me and my LS. I have stolen claim from other LS's. I have missed sleep and work to stay up for that window that was opening during one of those activities. I have had friends log my character on to try and dual box.
Finally all that time has paid off and I finally feel like a complete SMN. A big shout out to Juntos of Unicorn and all the people who have helped me camp and keep ToD over the years. Couldn't have done it without you guys.

Congrats bud! Took me awhile to get mine too. Had a party at my place that i actually ran off from to camp it. Gathered a Thf/nin(who was farmin in the area) a 75 sch/rng 01 that got him to pop. Grabbed with carby and ran to zone. Viola Ying yang robe. Enjoy your new found robe! =)

Your story kind of scares me. Congratulations, though.
I've just started camping mine a couple of days ago... I have a THF friend with TH4 who is helping me, so I'm hoping that it will drop on the first kill.
However, currently it seems the ToD is very late in the evening when he and I are both asleep... or should be.
I think I'll stay here for a couple more days then just wait for a maintenance.
Are there that many SMNs who still don't have this item?

Wow, missing work and stealing from other LS's? o.O
I admit when I was working on getting this before I quit a few years ago things were pretty desperate but don't think I would ever do either of those. :-/
Anyways, congrats! I'll be working again on getting this soon, have other things to work on first though. Hopefully I should start hunting the ToD soon so I can get an idea when I need to be on.

I think the problem is that, years ago, Summoners were much more in demand.
I don't want to get into a discussion on how good or bad the job is, but it's just a fact.
I remember friends constantly telling me how Summoners were the to-have job for tons of HNMLS activities.
Also, I guess when the YYR was released, most people were just using a Vermillion Cloak.
...which is just really crappy considering the Yinyang Robe + Evoker's Horn/Summoner's Horn/Austere or Penance Hat/etc. combo.
So, there was tons of Summoners dying to get it.
There was one Party of 3 camping Shikigami Weapon when I was waiting in Ro'Maeve for the ToD, and they didn't seem all that motivated.
They killed, got the ToD and my PT competed against them the next day but we easily got the claim... I just don't think people really want this item that much anymore. (obviously this other PT was somewhat incompetent, so we were a little lucky, but still)
Bottom line, I think most hardcore Summoners already have this item or just stick with an ACP body.

Well that's a little upsetting to hear. The way I found the ToD last time was just by constantly monitoring the amount of people in the zone. From there, I was able to find when he spawned but if it isn't in that much of a demand any more that's going to make it harder.

Uh thats how I got mine. Friend was hunting a RDM test accidently aggro'd it and asked for raise in LS chat. When we found out what killed him me and some friends dropped party hauled ass and killed him still unclaimed. 1/1 on drop.
Even worse and it will probably make some ill to hear it but a DRK friend of mine got it when he was just farmin zone and uh he hadn't even unlocked the job. HE WAS GONNA NPC IT!!! We guilted him into leveling SMN I think he's now an aspiring lvl 10 SMN.
That just seems very lucky to me. I know for a fact it's still camped, especially with a lot of people levelling their Summoners via Astral Burns recently... (and no, I'm not one of those SMNs)

The LS I'm in on Sylph has been camping yingyang robe for two weeks now. We have claimed it everyday except twice when another group beat us to claim.
I think we have had it drop all but three times. At this point its going for free lot because every smn that can wear it has it now.
Its not too overly camped though, besides our LS showing up only 1-2 other small groups show up. We claim it easy most the time because we show up in force. We've had as many as 18 people there just owning the area waiting for pop.
It's a pet LS also and the first LS I've been in were I feel like theres a chance for me to get smn gear I want. From what I read we will be moving on to other smn drops after everyone has a yingyang robe. And yes after three years of being a lv.75 smn I finally got my yingyang robe.

Tried getting this tonight since people got the ToD yesterday but it was the LS's Dynamis night. ;_;
My and a 75SMN showed up but we really didn't have a tank so we couldn't do it. I almost had a 75RNG and a 75PUP in the zone doing FoV help me, but they wouldn't unless a tank showed up.
It got to the point where I had to leave and in a sheer moment of stupidity I decided it would be fun to try and solo it. I knew I was going to die, but meh, I figured I'd have fun too so I gave it a shot.
It was a lot of fun but man, I failed miserably. I got him to the zone easy enough by there's no kiting room and I died quickly. Still though, it was at least a lot of fun. ^^
I logged in a few hours later and got the ToD from a few people I had been talking to earlier that were still in the zone. Shiki stayed up for nearly two hours before anyone killed him. o.O
I'm hoping that happens again tomorrow since he'll spawn when I still have another hour of work left tomorrow. >_<

The fight was actually a lot harder than I remembered, we had a 72SMN/WHM (me), 75RDM/BLM, a 75DRK/???, and a 75THF/RNG and we actually had a fair amount of trouble.
Luckily there was a 75BLU willing to help and I invited him and after that the fight went smoothly. He was surprised I invited him since I guess most people are afraid of jerks but I like to assume FFXI has a good community.^^

Congrats on the drop! I camped this NM for 2 days straight only for it to be stolen one time and another I teamed up with a monk that was also hunting the NM and we raped it. We both lotted for it and I got the higher lot! YY Robe the best.

congrats to all my fellow SMNs who got the robe. thou the OP's story with the missing sleep and work gets kinda scary ^^;; when i was camping it, i did miss some sleep to stay up late for the window (this is before FOV) but never miss work. just get an assume time or have friends check the TOD for me.
oh, and fun story... back then, after like 2 weeks of camping, i got the robe, but only to toss it away by accident one night about 3 weeks later when i was sorting things late in the night. didn't even notice it until about a week later (was leveling my other low level jobs). needless to say i'm was all orz but at least the 2nd time it only took me 1 week to get the drop.
since then i have helped with at least 5 ppl i know on camping it and i find that u only need about a PT of 4 ppl to get it. i usually go as WHM/RNG so i can scan plus cast to aggro it if possible. about 4 out of 5 times my PT can get the claim and drop rate has been ok so far.
anyway, for those who have this piece, congrats and enjoy. and for those who still waiting for it, good luck and have fun~
