Hi again,

Comp info

Vista
Biostar Group Manufacturer
Model G31-M7 TE
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3 GHz
Memory 4094 MB Ram
Directx Version 10

Vid Card ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

Issue is that while playing final, it freezes and crashes my computer. Its most notorious for doing this while im in Dyna (especially xarcabard for some reason) and abyssea. But has been know to just randomly crash at other times.

Ive been doing some digging a bit. With Task manager running, during a "crash" POL voewer goes from roughly 30% of CPU use down to 0, and FFXI goes to not responding. Its within a minute or 2 of this that my computer will crash.

Also, checking the event logs records the same error each time. But here is where i need help. I don't really know what it means or how to go about fixing it.

Here is the message is says online for the help portion. Any insight, or directiopn on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Windows Server 2008 - ID 10 — Event Filter Query Functionality
Event ID 10 — Event Filter Query Functionality

(This wiki page is part of a pilot program to remove topics such as this one from the TechNet and MSDN libraries and move them to the wiki. We plan to do a better job of helping customers than the repeated instructions to go to the forums seen in the thread history at the end of this article.)

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

WMI supports a query language called the WMI Query Language (WQL). WQL is a subset of structured query language (SQL) that is used by most relational database management systems. An event filter query is a WQL query that is used when processing WMI events.

Event Details
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 10
Source: Microsoft-Windows-WMI
Version: 6.0
Symbolic Name: WBEM_MC_CANNOT_ACTIVATE_FILTER
Message: Event filter with query "%2" could not be activated again in namespace "%1" because of error %3. Events may not be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Resolve
Update permanent event subscriptions
To correct the query, examine the event registration by using the WMI Event Registration tool included with CIM Studio and updating the permanent subscriptions for the listed provider and query. If the permanent subscription was created by a MOF file included with an installed product, you must contact the application vendor to correct the faulty registration.

Verify
Send events through the Event Provider that satisfies the Event Filter query in question and to verify that they were delivered successfully.

Also, after checking after an Additional crash about 15 mins ago...

There are actually 2 diff errirs, but they seem to be linked.

The 2nd error is:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.

This is an Error from "atapi"

The first error is from "WMI"

Any help would be Great. I was fighting a Ochu in Rolanberry fields solo when it crashed, so definatly not a High lag situation like normal XD

Atapi is going to generally be your CD / DVD drive It looks like a sata port issue though. if it keeps happening after you fix the WMI issue below, try reinstalling your chipset driver and any mass storage drivers. It could be a failing dvd drive or hard drive, depending on what is on that particular port, but that would be rare.

The WMI error, one of the following should work:
This: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950375/en-us/

or

After installing Service Pack 1 you might find the following error in the event viewer:
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. Here is the fix. Open a command prompt as an admin and enter the following pressing the enter key after each line: net stop winmgmt DEL C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository\*.* Now reboot and let the system idle for a few minutes. There will be a couple of WMI warnings in the event log, but thats alright for the moment. Reboot one more time and the error and warning will be resolved.

I really appreciate the help Kaolian, however, can you just walk me through how i run a script?

I tried the link, installed WP1 and the Vid card one, it rebooted and came back with the error like it said it would. It says to copy text into a Notepad doc, and then to run the script. Thats where im a bit lost. And i suck at Command prompt. So i would literally need step by step instructions.

I really do Appreciate all your help. If this fixes it, i'll be endlessly happy as this problem has been tormenting me for over 2 years now XD.
