FFXIV - Need Configuration Help (ATI Radeon 5970)Follow

#1 Dec 20 2010 at 2:18 PM Rating: Decent
What I know about video configuration could fill a thimble but still; I shouldn’t have these problems with my new system. If you’re more tech savvy with my hardware (then I am), hopefully you can give some advice, or explain what is causing the trouble (i.e. the drivers are not fully matured for this game), thanks.

I have a large 30” monitor (LG W3000H-BN) and can not run the game in (the monitors) native mode of 2560 x 1600, the game gets very jerky and has sync issue, where animations will appear minutes after the action is complete.

Now at 1920 x 1200 with “General Drawing Quality” set to 8 (Standard) it works about as well as I guess it’s suppose to. No real complaints here except its not as smooth to me as it should be, but it is on-line (This is what I tell myself).

Also if I raise the quality bar above 8, it totally bogs down. I want more, I know this system fly’s with other games; anyhow here is my setup:

(2) ATI Radeon 5970 2.0 GB DDR5 DX11 (Yes, two physical cards) CrossFire Enabled

Kingston 1600 MHZ DDR3 (24 GB – 6x 4 GB)

Intel Core i7 970 3.2 GHZ (6 Core)

ASUS Rampage III Extreme

Windows 7 (64 bit) DX11

(…and yes, current drivers for video)

At one point there was a known issue with a resolution greater than eith 1050 or 1080. Try setting the resolution to 1680x1050 and set it to max and see if it works for you.

I haven't payed attention to the bug since I am at 1680x1050 so I don't know if it has been fixed yet. (I doubt it is a priority with the other issues.)

Thanks, I think those “Issues” are still around.

I should add that it also works better in Windowed mode, in full screen mode over time the animation still gets a little out of sync at higher resolutions, and it takes a lot longer to load into the game and spawn when teleporting. Also in full screen it takes longer for PC's & NPC's to spawn around you. Most of this goes away Windowed at or below 1920x1200.

Full screen at 1680x1050 is OK but many of the same problems, and when running it still just a little jerky. Windowed is fine.

But “General Drawing Quality” settings higher then 8 still totally bogs down, takes days just to log on.

Some have suggested the use of Radeon Pro but then again you need to know how to configure it. Will this even help game performance in this case? If so, does anyone have a profile specifically for FFXIV when using the 5970?

(This post is more of a status update [its not a necropost], as the conditions described in the original post persist. As patches to the game are released I intended to update until presented with a good recommendation. Basically; how to squeeze the most graphic ability out of Crossfire enabled duel 5970's for FFXIV)
