Hi all. I'm having a very frustrating problem with my dual monitor set up. Basically here is the deal. I was running dual monitor as such:

1) Main HD 32" LCD monitor via HDMI
2) crappy 17" LCD monitor via DVI-to-VGA dongle

Here is the problem. No matter what I do I can ONLY use the single monitor (DVI-to-VGA) becuase as soon as I plug in the HDMI cable for my main monitor The DVI screen turns off, and I can see neither screen. Nothing I do seems to get any signal to my main monitor via HDMI HELP!

PC specs:
AMD x64 2.8ghz dual core
HD 5770 XFX
8GB ddr2 ram
Windows 7 ultimate 64
64GB Crucial SSD

Just to be sure did you go into the display settings for Windows and turn on dual-monitor mode?

Yup, have it set to dual monitor, though the second monitor says "Display device on VGA"
I have a feeling if I buy a DVI-to-HDMI dongle it will see both monitors. Even though it worked before using 1 HDMI and 1 DVI, I think i'm being forced into a choice between one connector type.

That or possibly my HDMI port died. That would not be good as I just purchaded this chard mid September.

I am unable to use the HDMI port at all.

Does your card have multiple DVI ports? If so, have you tried both DVI ports?

Reason I ask is because DVI and HDMI, as far as video goes, are pin-compatible, so you can find cards that can only use one or the other. For example, built-in video often can use VGA + DVI -or- HDMI. Far as I know, the 5770s (and likely others) need to use the Displayport if you want to use Eyefinity, indicating that they likely have a similar restriction.

Thanks for the help. Yes I have 2 DVI ports and 1 HDMI. I got a new HDMI cable and now everything works. =)
