Hi, i played FFXIV on my ASUS laptop at first it has a 1.8ghz Intel i7 processor,1GB dedicated video memory ATI mobile radeon HD5200 series graphics card,4GB of RAM, and runs on Windows 7 and it ran the game beautifully i had the setting all set to highest spec and it was great in either windowed or full screen mode..

I had to send my laptop out for repair so today i bought i new computer its a Desktop pc here are the specs:
Asus essentio series, ATI Radeon HD5400 series 1GB dedicated video memory, 8GB RAM, AMD Phenomâ„¢II X6 1045T Processor 2.70 GHZ, and runs on Windows 7

I installed FFXIV today on my new desktop PC and oh my god.. the game runs like crap everything i walk around its very choppy and it just seems to lag when i walk, at a stand still you can even see the monsters are all laggy when they move.. So i tried turning down my settings, i used high, medium, and low settings and they are all the same extremely choppy and laggy. Next i updated all my graphics card drivers and still have the same problem.. I'm stuck I am no computer expert and I don't know what to do, I don't understand how my laptop that had lower specs was able to run FFXIV at high setting, but my new desktop PC cannot. please any information would be greatly appreciated.

Are you experiencing any other issues?

How do other games run? Preferably some that have been released within 2 years, as this would help isolate the problem.

I looked at the cards you were using for both the desktop and the laptop. I couldn't find the laptops card exactly as you described it, closest being the FireGL V5200, but the HD5400 is the lowest end card you could have gotten in the 5400 range. These cards are more designed for home theatre than for gaming. From the sounds of it, you bought your PC from a retailer and have been fooled by the "larger number must mean it's better" ploy they often use, but I could be wrong. The fact that it runs poorly on 'low' might be an indication that the card isn't the primary problem.

What kind of resolution are you running at/what size is your monitor?

nope, it's the card. There's a reason they sell for $50. As noted, they are more for wathing movies on then 3D Gaming--they have less elbow room for 3D data than the last generation of cards. Can't even keep pace with the better 4600/4800's because of the castrated pipelines:

That 5200 solution in the laptop (built loosely off the x1600 design) actually had more streams to work with (12 vs 8) for starters. If you bought this as a built rig (ie: not a boxed suystem at Wal-Mart) I would take it back and tell them you wanted a system to play GAMES on and not watch movies. If price is the issue, you should be able to get by with a 4850 or 4870 just fine. Yes, it's a lower number on the card, but it has far more elbow room for moving the 3d data around.
