I'm slowly upgrading my system, and I would like to know if anyone has some insight on wireless routers. My ADSL provider (Telus)recently upgraded my old modem and seperate router to a new wireless system (my main pc is hardwired to it), a D-Link.

I had been looking at various wireless stuff prior to this, but when they were over on a recent service call for our TV (DSL tv) they installed this new modem for free. Looking at the specs on it, it seems to be rated as a 'do it all', for gaming etc, so how would this unit, as it's not sold to the general public, compare to the more 'online gaming' routers?

I seem to averaging close to 3 mbps download speeds, my latency is rather high, but that is with the kids watching tv as well.

Another test with the TV unit turned off
No Difference really. Also, our Wii is connected full time, I think, as well. I have no idea how that affects things.

Interesting to note, that according to this site anyways, Canada is way down the bottom of the list in internet speeds. http://www.speedtest.net/global.php

latency on a system providing 3 services be it adsl cable or even sattelite shouldnt be affected even if one is turned off or on etc. what will be affected is available bandwidth and speed depending on the system. I personally am wired but only for a more secure connection that neighbors cannot use my bandwidth but thats just my own personal feelings. The latency issue could be caused by the distance from you to the nearest substation, old telphony equipment and various other problems. Depending on how your home is wired it could also be part of it. When I first started useing dsl a number of years ago I ran a deicated phone line from my pc room to the exterior box in one run to get the best signal and put my phone on a second line. from what i saw your speed is neaqr advertised rates, and latency while high isnt outrageously so
