Bare minimum processes for Windows VistaFollow

My laptop is currently...well, pretty useless. It got a virus or some other kinda of harmful file somehow. (all the family uses it, but I'm not looking to place blame.)

It runs insanely slow and takes awhile to open even simple programs. I was wondering if anyone who runs a completely clean Vista could post a list of all of their processes. Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DLT), Processes tab, and just type out what's there. Make sure you enable the check box that says 'Show processes from all users.'

I can tell there's something up, I have 61 processes running at the moment which I know is a huge number of them. If I can't find any help from this I'm going to have to just Google each of these processes and see what's really what. (Google them on the clean computer of course, I can tell the search engines are infected on the laptop.) We got Norton AntiVirus, a good retail one from the store, but it doesn't seem to do ****. Maybe I should get AVG.

ok so you believe you might have a virus or other malware. If this is indeed the case I wouldn't recommend trying to turn of processes in task manager to help. I would and recommend downloading superantispyware from amazingly enough superantispyware.com and updateing it then run it. after it runs you will need to reboot the system, and run it again until the Sas prog comes back with a clean bill of health. Also Anti Malware bytes is another great program that does the same thing. Both of these have a free version that will get you out of your current bind assumeing of course malware or spyware is the problem.

For an antivirus program I use Avira or avg free editions depending on which pc at home I am using.

Lastly ccleaner from pirisoft.com is an amazing program that cleans cookies unused registry tags and browser history/cache does indeed help clean windows.

After you have d/l'ed and run all of the programs dont forget to defrag.

One other thing I do in win xp that Im not sure you can do in vista is to clear all previous restore points and create a new one with a clean system.

The way you do this in xp is go to control panel >system restore and turn it off. reboot.
after the pc comes back on go back to system restore and turn it on and reboot.
system restore will now be cleared of any restore points now create one and perhaps name it Clean point or the like, this will remove any viral trace in sys restore and leave you with a clean pc.

again this walk thru as it were is going on the basis that you have a problem with malware and or spyware. Lastly make certain that if you get a new anti virus program to remove any you might have on your pc completely before installing a new one as it will cause conflicts and problems.

Let us know how it works out and good luck.

Yea, I mentioned we have Norton AntiVirus, and a retail version, so I have like 183 days left on my subscription. It seems really sucky though.

I already knew that 2 antivirus/whatever can conflict, but can I have spyware and malware protectors on as well as antivirus?

I will definitely try that stuff out though, thank you satrn, rate up.
