Tablet PC system appearing on a laptop that doesn't use itFollow

Hey guys I am in a pinch here. I come to work and one of the managers computers is acting up. His touchpad isn't responding and all of a sudden the Tablet PC stuff has been enabled. He claims it started right after the windows updates last night.

His system is a Dell Inspiron 1420 running Windows Vista, he is able to use a regular mouse to navigate windows, but not the touchpad. I did look through the tablet pc settings, but could not find a way to disable it.

TIA for any assistance

Rollback to before the last windows update, and disable automatic updates.

Is it possible for win update to enable this feature even though the laptop isn't even a tablet pc? I will try rolling back, but he isnt going to like the idea of disabling auto-update.

IdeaCom Technology Inc. - Input - IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2)

Installation date: ‎1/‎15/‎2009 12:17 AM

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Optional

IdeaCom Technology Inc. Input software update released in December, 2008

More information:

This is what he installed. Now the truth comes out. Is there a way to simply delete this update, or is the rollback going to be the only way of getting rid of it?

Just go to add/remove programs (or what ever they did/didn't change the name to in Vista) and uninstall it.

Depending on whether or not it's considered a Windows Update you may have to click the option to display windows Updates, and then they list those by a Alpha-Numeric update code, and you'll have to find out which one it was (should be listed somewhere on the windows update page).

Just curious... why did he install a Touch Screen software for a PS/2 port? Does his laptop have a Touch Screen connected to his PS/2 port?

No it does not have any touch screen capabilities at all, just a touch pad.

sorry about the long delay in a update. I went through the add/remove programs but didn't see the file listed. I ended up restoring to the last update and it fixed the mouse issue, but now his McAfee is broken and I told him to call them to try and get it fixed. lol I goto work to take a break from computers, and end up fixing them there as well.

Check the installation of your touchpad sensing application. In his icon tray by the clock there should be a program running for "such-and-such Pointing Device", which control the pointing devices (mice/touchpad etc). If that got somehow switched to disable the touchpad, obviously, the touchpad wouldn't work.
Mine is Synaptic Pointing Device application and I have mouse and touchpad enabled, I can use either.
