Spent a lot of time I should have spent sleeping looking around PortForward.com in order to get uTorrent up and running on my computer.

I have set up a static IP for my compy and I am now trying to get the IP address of my router into my address bar so I can actually forward some ports. However both Mozilla and IE return errors. Mozilla gives me:

Mozilla wrote:
PAGE LOAD ERROR

Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

My router, from what I can tell, is a 3com 3c16700, though I can find no info on this router on 3coms website (http://3com.com/) or on PortForward's router page (http://portforward.com/routers.htm).

I am in a Brigham Young University apartment, and BYU has hard-core net security and filtering set up. BYU may be doing something to lock down all ports that could be used for torrents and thus ****, illegal file sharing and all that bad internet stuff they don't want happening on a private Latter-day Saint campus.

Any ideas on what could be going wrong you router savvy people? Can I get a TCP/IP witness in here?

If its your router you should be able to get into it regardless. IF its the schools router then your probably pwned. Schools tend to monitor your internet usage. Depending on the school one of these things may apply ro you when caught.

1. An Internet block from said computer (mac address block).
2. Temporary block on internet.
3. Removal of all tech privleages.
4. Capping on your bandwidth.

Is it the schools router or yours?

The router is mine.

So how do I "get into it regardless?" Something on my Control Panel with the network connections? More fiddling with the IP that gives the error? (I'm Windows XP)

Scan the range between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.255. Your router will show up with some sort of host name that will be obvious and the IP you should be logging into. It's about 99.99% that you're just hitting the wrong IP.

Good luck.

You are correct, it could be. Scan 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.1.255

First, open a command prompt (Run, cmd<enter>)

type 'ipconfig' you should see a bunch of stuff like this:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 5:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter {53606BF0-E585-4C9C-BD40-016C97B5FBE4}:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

The Default Gateway should be the ip address of your router. Go there in your browser of choice and forward ports from there. BTW, if you choose Internet Explorer, you will need to use http:// before the ip address.
