So my CPU sucks and this xmas decided to buy a new one, I'm going for AMD - 64 3500. The specs look fine and it's decently priced. Only problem is my friend told me I need a new motherboard, cos this one I have doesn't have the socket for the new CPU.

I have no idea what socket I currently have on this motherboard, all I know is the cpu is AMD 2500.

So how do I know what motherboard to get?

I checked the above sites motherboards and there are some w/ weird numbers and names for socket size, anyone can break it down for me? Or even show me a good motherboard that would be compatible w/ the above processor?

Help plz, thanks _(._.)_

If you want to keep the rest of your current hardware, you will also have to make sure the motherboard has appropriate slots for your video (either AGP or PCI-e), your hard disks (either SATA or IDE) and your memory (probably DDR2 but check to make sure)

Google is your friend and there are tons of howto and faq pages on hardware out there.
