FFXI (PC) Crashes at Start up...Follow

#1 Nov 27 2006 at 1:38 AM Rating: Decent
Hello! I searched through a bit of this forum and found a few people with similar problems, though not everyone mentioned the specs of the computers used.

I tried installing and playing FFXI on my boyfriends computer, the specs as follows:

AMD Athlong XP 3000+
173GB Free Space on his Hard drive
960MB of RAM (Brand new, just installed)
Using the NVIDEA GeForce4 MX (I removed old drivers and reinstalled all new drivers for this after the problems occurred when I tried to load up the EQ2 Trial...they don't support this video card and so I just removed EQ2 from his comp)
Using Windows XP Home
DSL connection
This is an e-machines thingamabob also, if that is in any way valuable information...

I got through the installation of everything, he created a character and everything went fine and dandy. However, once he got into the world and started in with the intro the game crashes after maybe 20 seconds of game-play, every time we try and start the game.

I went to the FFXI site to see if his video card was compatible and, as far as I can tell, it is.

I turned off bump mapping, everything is on the lowest settings and still it crashes.

What else can I try? While I'm not positive, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's his Video Card that's causing all these problems. Are there more ways to tweak it?

Thank you in advance to anyone with any insight on this problem....

If it can't be fixed then it looks like someone might be getting a new video card for x-mas :P
