Laptop problem, help please.Follow

I have recently bought a laptop, and had it for a few days now. However, today, during installing McAfee Virus Scan, the computer and the installation were running very slowly indeed, and every 5 seconds or so, the disk drive made a loud whirling sound.

After the installation, and a prompted restart, the computer took ages to start up, and the mouse and everything on the laptop were lagging greatly.

The first thing I tried was uninstalling McAfee. No better.

I am currently running a scan disk, and am hoping that it will fix the problem. However if it doesn't, could anyone give me an idea of what to do next?

Or does anyone know of anyone who has had this problem before.

I have no problem with using the recovery disks that I made, as long as I am sure it will fix the problem.

Any ideas anyone? It was just a problem completely out of the blue..

Not all of us wants to use Mac or Linux, Zurck.

To the OP: run a disk check. If you don't know how, simply go to Run and type in "cmd" (without the quotes of course) and press enter.

When the prompt comes up, type "chkdsk C: /f" and press enter. Replace "C:" with whatever the letter of your main drive is (if you have multiple partitions). The prompt will ask you if you want to schedule one on the next startup, hit "y" and press enter.

What chkdsk does is simply check the integrity of the disk. It marks bad sectors so the disk won't use them in the future.

Hope that helps. :)
