FFXI and VistaFollow

I am sorry if this has already been asked and answered. Has anyone gotten FFXI to run in Vista? On my experiences POL installed fine, but it would crash as soon as I tried running it. I did try to force it to win32 with the same results.

When I did install it, I turned off UAC thinking that might of been the cause of the crashes, but same thing. I have heard of people getting it to install.

Side question:
I have an NF2 board (gigabyte) and I noticed there was no support for vista on nvidia. Anyone got any ideas? Because right now im staring down the barrel of a 700 dollar upgrade :cries:

Thanks
Fantomu

I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work, except that hardware drivers probably aren't very stable.

Do the directx tests work?

(start -> run -> "dxdiag")

actually someone pointed out that windows has a whole was completely re-written and everything is handled differently now. I submitted all the feedback to microsoft on this and waiting to see if they come up with a solution for this. I tried even installing winamp on my Vista and it was reported to be a virus lol.

I've been testing the vista beta and unless you've got a pretty nice spec pc it runs like a DOG! Beware! The GUI really does abuse GFX effects!

I'm sticking with XP as long as it's supported personally, cool enough and stable enough for me.

This is true for most operating systems. The only thing that should make a difference to you is that you need to find drivers for your hardware on the Vista platform. You should probably just stick with XP until they bring it out of beta.

Seems Vista has alot of troubles if you try to clean install it, just upgrade your current system and about 90% of stuff works that if you using Vista RC1 and for FFXI it won't run cause SE has stated they don't support Vista and they havn't said anything about if they going to support the Final release of Vista

Okay, I am on Vista RC2 build 5744, on an intel board. All my devices were found and installed flawlessly, even surround sound! :D

My specs:
Intel pentium D 980 3.4Ghz
2 Gigs of K-byte DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 XT (512DDR, overclocked)
and then all the other stuff that shouldn't matter all that much..

My "Vista experience"
Processor: 4.8
RAM: 5.4
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming graphics: 4.9
Hard drive: 5.2

Installed, set shortcut to run as admin by default. Updated, and runs perfectly! I have been playing for 2+ hours. No crashes, no glitches, nothing.. I think it is actually running better than it did on XP.

So nothing else was changed, just ran it as admin by default.. Get the newest build possible: RC2 5744(bit torrent is your friend on this one, it's hard to come by) and hope it runs smooth :)

I think to run FFXI on bare min, I would use nothing lower than maybe a 3.5-4.0 Vista Experience... (If you have Vista, you know what I am talking about :P)
