When starting the EQ shortcut on my desktop, I recieved a few files and ran the directx test. When the test finishes the window just offers the ability to "Download". Problem is, I just downloaded the file.. No matter how many times I download this test run the game will not commence normal procedure.

Here's what I did to attempt to correct this...

1. Logged into microsoft website, downloaded every possible update my PC was missing.

2. Logged onto the Direct X site and downloaded any missing files from "Directx 9.0c".

3. Defragged, scanned, updated anything I could find and still nothing.

My Video cards: AGP- Nvidia GeForce4 MX440 w/ agp 8x
PCI- Radeon 9250

I personally have no further ideas on correcting this. Any help would be appreciated.

It's a bit late, but, meh.

I can't follow your description perfectly, but it seems the patcher isn't reconizing that you've downloaded the latest patch and is redoing it every time?

While there might be a more.. refined.. way of doing this, I'd just take the brutish approach and uninstall EQ completely (remember to back up and screen shots and in-game logs). I'd try to make sure EQ's happy with it's regular install directory when installing again. Sure, the patching will take an age, but if there's no other way, right?

The other thing I can think of is that, if your Internet connection is broadband with a high packet loss.. well, it may be picking a packet or more that are error'd as legitimate, causing the check to fail.

A final thought would be if you're logged on without admin rights.. but most people who play EQ don't have to worry about this sort of thing, at least not on a computer that they've decidicated enough to to play EQ on.
