A few days ago, my computer started getting these vertical lines across it. They appeared randomly, so I figured it was due to overheating. However, upon cooling the computer more, they are still here. Figured best thing I could do was show a picture of what I mean.. although it sounds scarily like a mohterboard problem. This is because rarely, the text on the bios screen and windows xp loading bar is sometimes garbled as well.

Any clue as to whats going on? I even formatted because I thought I had a dodgy display driver but the problem persists. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It also messed up in FFXI, causing me to be unable to see anything.

That actually looks like a graphics card issue.

I have a new card now and it fixed the old problem! Yay! The new card is an XFX Nvidia GeForce 660GT.

But.. I am having a couple of graphics errors in FFXI. Characters armour and weapons have what I can best describe as twitchy textures. They seem to dissapear and reappear, flashing occasionally. Any ideas?
I have the latest drivers and this did nothing to fix the problem. I also downgraded to version 66 and the problem was still there.

While the game is not exactly unplayable like this, it is very distracting and I would appreciate any help that can be given.

Actually, I have heard of a LOT of people having trouble with Nvidia cards with FFXI, crazy I know.

You might actually try rolling back to earlier drivers, check their page to see what the most current, supported, drivers are. I hear that works better than the current sets.

I use tweaked drivers from the nvidia 83 series from tweaksrus.net

I think though that the lasted supported drivers from nvidia for FFXI are in the 66 series. HERE seems to be a pretty complete listing of nvidia drivers. Look in the FFXI documentation (or take a guess and trust me on the 66 series) and use what you feel like. It will most certainly be a downgrade, and other games may not work.

I would advise using, as a compramise, somthing in the late 77 series. Like these.
