Seems to be specifically a problem with CNN.com, which I happen to have as my homepage. When it loads up, I get several error popups that read similar to:
"Your current security settings prohibit ActiveX controls on this page. As a result this page may not display properly."

This has always happened on my laptop, running WinXP home and IE 6.whatever. Recently though I get 3-4 error boxes at a time. I've checked ActiveX and Security settings, but I'm not really sure what to look for or where else to look.

Help us, Kaolian, you're my only hope...

try going to tools: internet options. click on the security tab. Then reset security for the zone "internet" to default

It should load one popup asking you to specify cnn normal or international version, the rest of their page doesn't use a whole heck of alot of activex, so you may want to check for spyware.

Download and run adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com and see if anything turns up.

No good...
reset web security to normal. I also lowered the security settings, even manually changed all ActiveX controls on Enable. Still got multiple ****-ups, on both the US and International versions. I run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search&Destroy regularly, and am clean.

Aye - ZoneAlarm for firewall, but no cookie blocker. I use Google Toolbar for popup blocking.
