Since about 2 or 3 days ago, I often have my R go to 0 in FFXI. It happens about every 5 minutes. Occasionally it will disconnect as well. I use cable modem and have been using cable for 2 years with no problem. The only thing that happened recently is that about 5-6 days ago I put a router on, but then after it didn't work I took it off 2 days later. However, I updated the firmware on my router and ran the router configuration utility, both of which ran .EXE files, so I wonder if the .EXE file changed some setting somewhere that I should know about. Anyway now I'm again going directly from computer to modem to wall, but I'm still having this problem. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I'm using WinXP and know everything about computers except for when it comes to networking. Any advice?

Thanks :)

WinXP service pack 1. No I don't notice this anywhere else, although I don't play any other online games. However, when browsing the web everything seems normal. That isn't a terribly good measure however, I know. Also, when the R goes to 0, all the lights on my modem are still flashing the same as they are when everything is perfectly normal and working fine.

What is the server IP address (I'm on Valefor)? Maybe I can ping it and/or tracert, and see if there's anything that might be getting in my way. If I do this over a 10 minute period of time, I should be able to get an idea if it's my ISP or FFXI.

Sorry for the triple post, I just keep remembering more information. When it goes to 0, sometimes I cannot move my character at all, sometimes I can. Regardless, I can always chat, whether it be via linkshell or /say or /p. I can also see other people's chat messages. I do not see any messages regarding battles, however or other stuff going on in the vicinity. Only chat messages. When it unlags, if I'm in the middle of a battle it unleashes like 10 blows at once, as if it was queueing them all up.

Actually, you have to be in POL to even see the servers. So load POL, go to DOS.

ping -t valefor.playonline.com

for control, do the same for yahoo.com

I'll try this when I get home tonight. I'm at work right now. I'll post an update then.
