Yesterday I defragged my drive and it showed that it could not defragment some file or another associated with FFXI. My question is:

Is the data related to FFXI funky for Defrag to read and it just thinks it's fragmented or should I try reinstalling and patching the game? I havent really had any problems with FFXI but then again maybe it's laggy or wierd and I just dont notice because I'm used to it. I try my best to maximize performance for the game because I have a graphics card with shared memory. Every little bit of extra juice counts when it comes to my hardware config. Thank you for your time ^^

Oh the percent is quite low actually. In my version of XP it will actually give you the names of files that were fragmented and unable to be moved. So basically I had the option to destroy fragmented files... quite nice. Yeah, I chose not to do anything with it. I just didnt know if this was common or whether my FFXI was borked..

If it gives you the "some files cannot be defragged" usually that means the file in question is corrupted. That file is likely slowing down ffxi (it's probably a log or a cache file that gets used alot) so removing it will actually help, just make sure it is one that will repatch.

Oh, and also, some certain types of archive files, such as Norton internet security protected recycle bin archives andcertain mail archives will also show up that way due to file structure. they actually are fragmented, but it is on purpose.
