Router problems again...Follow

#1 Jul 15 2004 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
In FFXI again my router is going berzerk, or I think its my router. At least twice a day the R at the top of the screen goes to 0 and I disconnect. Everyone told me to update the firmware on my router and I did just that but its still happening. Any help, or is it just SE's server always having problems?

Ok, are you connecting to it via a patch cable or via a wireless connection?

If you are connecting wirelessly, there are a couple of possibilities. First, try turning off Wireless Encryption Protection WEP and see if your connection improves. Also, next time your connection is lost, look outside and see if anyone is using a garage door opener. Other possible culprits can include wireless phones, cell phones, microwaves in line between the base station and the wireless card, etc. How far away is your computer from the router?

I use the same router and it took me about 30 hours of research, trial and error, and finally having a friend's help to correct the problem. The stress just made me want to break down and cry sometimes, seriously.

Anyways, my problem was that my computers were set to obtain an IP automatically. I simply set the Subnet Mask, the default gateway, the preferred DNS server, and a then gave each computer a different IP addy.

This may or may not be the same problem you're having, but it sounds similar... I'd lose my connection to FFXI every 45 minutes if the other computer was turned on.
