A little while ago I bought myself a new PC. AMD 2800 1Gb RAM (SD400) nVidia 5700. MSI motherboard with SATA and very high spec including built-in nVidia 5.1 sound chipset.

While it ran everything very fast EQ would always blue-screen it after a few minutes. I disabled the sound and it runs fine now. Albeit without sound.

Now I've bought an upgrade for the wife. (I'll rephrase that - an upgrade for the wife's PC)
P4 3.2, 2Gb SD400 dual speed, SATA, nVidia 5700 (256Mb). This time I told them to build it with a sound card (Creative basic card) and disable the on-board.

Same problem. Everything runs at incredible speed including EQ but EQ reboots the PC after a few minutes. This happens with and without EQW and EQPlayNice. Any other app and the machine will run solidly for hours.

I have not yet installed the ACT and killed the tasking prevention but that isn't really the same thing.

Any clues please. It wasn't cheap and the wife is not amused.

Could very well be you are getting hit with the netsky virus. It seeks out unprotected IP's to infect. If your computer had windows installed but not the windows updates, it could very easily be infected. Is it giving you any specific error message when it reboots? Does the bluescreen have any text on it? It could also be an improperly installed driver.
