Still having the problem?
Micrsoft JVM is Microsoft's version of something called the "Java Virtual Machine" You need a JVM of some sort to run javascript code on your web browser (which is obviously IE).
Here's the problem. MS no longer supports MJVM, so it's obselete. This isn't nessicarily bad in and of itself unless you're running some bleeding edge Java app which most people aren't. However, it does mean that people that write browser hijackers can rely on the JVM not protecting against them and once they find one that's efffective they'll just keep using it.
I'd recommend you remove the MJVM and replace it with Sun's JVM. Like so:
* Start -> Run
* Type RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall
* The un-install process begins. Click Yes to confirm.
* Reboot when prompted.
* After the machine restarts, delete the following items:
o the \%systemroot%\java folder
o the file java.pnf from the \%systemroot%\inf folder
o the two files jview.exe and wjview.exe from the \%systemroot%\system32 folder
o the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Java VM registry subkey
o the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\JAVA_VM registry subkey (to remove the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) options)
* Microsoft Java is now removed. You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at: http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html
If you're talking about a PC at home, or that you have admin rights to, I'd strongly recomend downloading
Firefox. Firefox's security is about 72,000 times better than IE and it has other benefits as well. While it's not impossible to get a hijack while using Firefox it's pretty damn close.
And it'll kill the drive door openeing portion of the active x controll that runs from the hijacked page. There is, amazingly, nothing IE can do to stop that.
Anyway, removing the MJVM should fix the hijacking, dowloading Firefox will prevent you from having these sorts of problems again.
If you stay with IE, well you're a fOOL!..but. If you do and this happens again, make sure you try the following as a first step:
Run
Spybot It's free. Update it regularly. If you use Adaware as well (which I personally don't as I think it sucks monkey balls) be advised that Spybot log files will show up in Adaware because of file extentions. This doesn't mean Spybot has installed spyware on your machine, it doesn't.
Also run CWS Shredder, HIJack this, etc. There's a bunch of removal programs that can be found
Here.
Really, though, switching from IE is the easiest way to avoid this sort of ******** inthe future.
Good luck.
