I swap cuch/forager based on my current hitrate and food. I have a pizza build and a meat build. Obviously forager in pizza and cuch in meat.
As far no assault earring, Active minuet > assault in uncapped acc situations. Merman > assault in capped acc situations. That being said, i don't see the need to shell out additional cash.

I'm up next for love torque, besides that, I'm pretty happy w/ my tp build.

As far as the sword strap is concerned, I have enough stp to keep my 6hit, at which point it becomes better than sword strap.

Cuch is more of a dDex thing if I have enough for the dex to be worthwhile then go w/ it if its a mog w/ rly high agi then I opt for the forager.

I'm 2/3 on ares legs, need the 25.

I'd post a penta build, but honestly anywhere that I'm going to be using penta, I'l be on sam/war.

My WS build needs a lot of work. Currently, I'm sitting on the following:
 
Thalassocrat --   Rose Strap   -- nothing --  Tiphia Sting

 SH+1 / AJ   --      AF+1      --  Rajas  --   Woodsman

Some of my gear will carry across for my BLU, in particular the Rutters for Cannonball, so I'm a tad hesitant to look into doing, for example, Sky for N.Feet (heh, as if I can get into a Sky shell in the first place, the ones I've seen on Hades rarely run at EU-friendly times, and the ones I've tried that do tend to fall apart as soon as I touch them)

My most obvious slot to upgrade is the legs, to be fair, although short of Dusk Trousers and possibly Fourth Schoss there's not an awful lot that I can get readily. I can't even get a bad Nyzul group together, never mind a good one, so Askar is out (so's Drakesbane for that matter, and it's actually getting to the point where I'd pay a six-figure sum for someone to merc a Radiant Lance for me), and Aurum's out of reach due to my knowing only one person who does ZNM. Obviously, other bits will need a bit of work, but I leave that for you guys to dissect as appropriate.

Here's all of my Penta numbers from last night's lowmanned Temenos West that made me realise how much work needed doing. They're going backwards because my chat logs are in Notepad and we had another fellow using Penta, and because I'm a lazy sod, so it's easier for me to pick out my numbers. They made me go /NIN for it due to a sheer lack of people.

For all of these, I was getting Minuet/March from our BRD, and I was eating Royal Sautee. I don't remember my exact Attack rating as I was drinking Belgian tripels by that point, but it was just shy of 550 in my TP gear (and I wasn't parsing so I don't know my hitrate). The optional stuff in the WS gear set at the top of the post was SH+1 and Warwolf.

I decided, possibly due to severely impaired judgment on my part, to start using Skewer and see how the numbers compared. Again, they're going backwards.

The 201 is something of an outlier, and in fact that's the only WS I did last night for which I remember my TP return -- it was a paltry 2, so the first hit missed and therefore the whole WS failboated Smiley: laugh


Average is 15841/24 = 660.0416667
Average, taking out that outlier, is 15640/23 = 680

Beyond not going on Temenos West when I'm drunk enough to think Skewer's a good idea (Smiley: laugh), what do you folks think I can do to improve my WS set?

You're gonna hate this, but sky.

Most sky pops can be low manned with the right jobs. This was one (of a few) reasons I leveled Rdm recently. Alternatively, bought. East/North Gems and Summer/Winterstones are usually in bazaars for like 100-150k. West/Autumn are gonna be closer to 500k each, but most people pop byakko for pants anyway.

I'd say: pick up a Gem of the East for 100-150k, go get a curt, and find a LS to merc suzy. You get nfeet (or seal if no nfeet) and they get money drops.

Buy Genbu/Byakko seals for 50-80k each, repeat above for suzy seal. Can buy East, then just bug your friends to help you kill MG for springstone. It's almost always up. Then find a LS to merc your suzy/sei and kirin pop. for nbody.

Park yourself at byakko and ask to buy N.hands from LSs that pop it for kitty pants. May run you a few hundred k, but even then you have AF+1 already (only -2str +1dex over nhands) so that's low priority.

Where there's a wallet, there's a way.

Oh, also Salvage and Einherjar.

Edit: Ad an example, I just picked up a Gem of the East for 150k and a Springstone for 250k from bazaars, and if my shell doesnm't go up to sky again anytime soon I'm just gonna approach the leader of a sky shell and ask if they'll merc it.

Been slowly working on upgrading my gear lately, this is my progress so far:

Main: Cletine
Sub: Pole Grip
Ammo: Tiphia Sting (all I can afford right now)
Head: TP in W. Turban, WS In Wyvern Helmet (Should I be using O Hat for WS?)
Body: TP Assault Jerkin, WS Nuevo Coselete (acc/crit)
Hands: Dusk Gloves
Rings: Woodsman Rings (saving for str rings for ws)
Earrings: fowling/minuet (saving for assault earring)
Legs: Dusk Trousers (Jumping in Barone/H. Jumping in wyrm brais)
Feet: Dusk Ledelsens
Back: Amemet +1
Waist: Life Belt
Neck: Chiv Chain

Currently doing ZNM runs, no luck on Aurum feet dropping though.

I have full polearm merits so I've started to phase out some acc in favor for str w/ penta, is this right or should I keep using acc gear on WS?

As far as Askar goes, more concerned about using my tags to climb nyzul for drakesbane than I am about getting the gear.

A good start. Tarasque mitts/+1/Spiked Finger Gauntlets/Hydra Finger Gauntlets are all good WS hands.
The Crit on your Nuevo will only be useful once you get Drakesbane, but I can understand getting it in advance if you don't want to repeat the final BC. Amir Boots from assault are a good WS piece untill you get Aurum if you have tags/points to blow. a Coral/Spike Earring will be better than minuet if you don't have a bard.

Edit: For the moment I'd probably use Ohat for WS.

Thanks for the suggestions on WS pieces, I've been focused on getting my Dusk gear so I hadn't taken much thought into what I should be buying for penta.

You hit the nail on the head about my Nuevo though, it took me so long to find someone that would let a drg into the fight that I didn't want to have to redo the body once I got drakesbane unlocked.

As far as earrings go, You're saying I should do Fowling/Spike or Assault/Spike? I was thinking of doing Fowling/Assault after I save up some more gil for Assault.

Since I was wondering something around the same lines, if you had a Ethereal Earring, how would the list look like? I currently have Ethereal (I like to solo)and Coral (from my mnk).

I'm saving up for Brutal but in the mean time I was debating on which to upgrade first.

I was planning on Mercing Aurum legs off a ZNMLS, but now that I have Askar pants... I can't think of a situation I'd use them.

Am I right in thinking Askar is better than Aurum for everything? Aurum is -3 ATK, -1 ACC, -4 DEX (lol drakes crit), +4 str, +4 vit.

What I've been using right now while /sam in merits:

TP:
Thalassocrat/Pole Grip/-/Tiphia Sting
Walahra Turban/Peacock Charm/Fowling Earring/Assault Earring
Zahak's Mail/Dusk Gloves/Woodsman/Woodsman
Forager's Mantle/Life Belt/Conte Cosciales/Dusk Ledelsens

A few changes I'm planning to make are brutal earring instead of fowling, rajas ring over one woodsman (once I can finish CoP), and once I have those, I was thinking of grabbing a rose strap for a 6 hit. One thing I'm not sure about is the legs slot. I have dusk legs but I'm not sure if they'd be better for tp than Conte.

WS:

I use these for penta thrust since I don't have drakesbane yet. I've got a lot of acc pieces that I'm not sure if I should be using, like Ohat, Hydra Gauntlets and Woodsman rings (could swap in wyvern helm, tarasque mitts or +str or +dex rings in any of those slots). And I'm still not sure whether Conte or Dusk pants would be better here.

Any general advice on improving would be appreciated.

Your WS set looks pretty solid. I'm assumign you've recently got sea/getting close? (As you mention being able to get brutal, and needing rajas).

If you're new to sea, top priority there should be a limbus shell. There's prolyl quite a lot of sky/limbus "endgame" shells that don't do the heavy stuff like kings etc. AF+1 legs are great. Aurum and askar legs are great aswell,

If not, as you have the gil for zahaks, I'm assuming you have a decent means of getting gil so you could invest in buying either sky pop items and finding a ls to merc them, or just buying the abj streight from a sky shell, for heca for your WS set.

As far as AH gear goes yours is good. Next stp is just endgame stuff.

I'd get blitz for capped acc, but only thing 'm ever on drg for is angon **** in Ejar when the drg main is absent.

Hello,

I've been browsing the forums for a while now and have received a great deal of help in regards to my Dragoon and how it should perform. I am currently at level 56 and my gear is as follows.

Weapon: Holy Lance (Wlll upgrade to Grand Knight's Lance at 60)
Sub: Mythril Grip +1 (Pole Grip at 60)
Range: None
Ammo: Smart Grenade (Tiphia Sting at 58)
Head: Walkure Mask
Neck: Spike Earring (Working on getting a Peacock Charm but for the moment I will upgrade to Chivalrous Chain at 60)
Earrings: Spike Earring x2 (Will replace one with an Assault Earring at 58)
Body: Jaridah Peti (Will carry a Scorpion Harness with me at 57 and switch depending on my ACC)
Hands: Spiked Finger Gauntlets
Rings: Woodsman Ring x2
Back: Jaguar Mantle (Amemet Mantle +1 at 61)
Waist: Life Belt (Potent Belt at 60 for WS or TP depending on ACC)
Legs: Republic Subligar (Feral Trousers at 63)
Feet: Drachen Greaves (Tabin Boots +1 at 59 and Marine M Boots at 62. If possible, I might skip the Tabin Boots +1 and go straight to the Marine M Boots.)

I seem to do pretty good in terms of damage, but any other gear advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember one camp otw to 75 where my acc was at the 95% hitrate cap. Mostly did birds, was in the 80s, used kabobs, ect. Lot of lv sync birds. That being said, any case where your acc isn't capped, sh is going to be the superior body. You'll be using it a lot more than peti

Sorry for the WoT. I got about ~10-12 mil of disposable gil now and looking at black tath or cap-1 and the ancillary things (HP earring/triumph etc).

Is there anything else I have totally forgotten about? I have some cash to spend and would hate to blow it all if there is something big or small ive forgotten about.

Aurum (if any ls on ur server sells), blitz ring, turban. Can cap acc on Gcolibri w/ both blitz and turban if you have the correct sh*t in the other slots.

Where would you focus next if you had my stuff? Askar body would probably be a good bet, and I'm doing limbus again so just waiting for homam to drop to me. What do you guys think would be the biggest thing to work tward next / merc off some LS? The only event I do anymore is Limbus, Einherjar and Nyzul Isle so I'd be buying any other R/E.

I just (barely) dinged 75 two nights ago, then spent last night unlocking Drakesbane. I have a few nice things that carried over from my BLU, but still have a far ways to go in shaping up my gear sets. Any advice is appreciated! My DRG's use will primarily be merits and soloing. (For LS events I'm locked in as BRD.) I'm Mithra. My merits thus far include 4Crit and 4STR (working on 5th). I'll only be able to put 4 merits into Polearm, and my ACP and MKE items are already spoken for on other jobs.

My main questions (see below) are about body piece, Drakesbane build and Jump.

TP
Cletine / Rose / --- / Tiphia
Walahra / Pcharm / Brutal / Assault
Askar / Homam / Iota / Rajas
Cuchie / Speed / Homam / Homam

Weapon: I plan on upgrading to a Fey Lance and switching to Pole Strap. Line for Vork is really long in my shell.
Ammo: Black Tathlum is out of my price range.
Head: I've been trying to get Askar helm to drop, but so far no luck. Unfortunately the likelihood of getting my LS to camp KV for Ace's is slim.
Neck: I'm up to lot next Love Torque that drops, whenever the LS goes to Sea again.
Body: We will probably do Tyger ZNM in a few months, but that is a ways off. Should I shoot for buying Zahak's in the meantime? (Or trying to buy Aurum body?)

ear1/2 : brutal/assault/fowling/merman (im thinkin brut/assault full time, folling for drakes?)
body: Zahak's mail (also have homam body, working on askar, whats best here? depend on /sam?)
hands: dusk(4/5 on homam, last piece i need, first in line for them)
ring1/2: rajas/sniper +1
back: Cuchulains/foragers depending on acc of course
waist: swift (F u KA, 2 belts to friends, now you wont drop mine)

Head: O hat or wyvern +1? which ya think, i cant do polearm merits, 20/20 on other jobs. Why they wont increase the max i dont know, so frustrating.

The reason people cry gimp is probably because you wear Spinel Rings, man, GET SNIPERS OR WOODSMEN.

Might want to upgrade your legs as well (Dusk Trousers), and invest in Dusk Gloves (but keep relic hands for WS). Until you get Sea, invest in Fowling and Assault Earrings, don't use Bushi except for Wheeling Thrust.

While we're at it, can I see your WS gear?

Also, the gear guide you're referring to isn't Faffy's... :P

Askar's a good call. The rest looks very solid, you just need your Limbus shell to pay out now.

Don't worry about Black Tathlum, and really, the only thing you can do with Askar is keep trying -- you'll get it eventually.
As for your body, I'd have no problems with you staying in your Askar until Aurum.

Hands: Spiked Finger Gauntlets until you get the HQ hands, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the NQ hands...
Rings: Stick with Iota, /shrug
Legs: I'd be inclined to WS in Aurum as you have them.
Feet: This is low priority, you have NQ and it's fine.

this looks solid. Brutal/Assault is best out of the earrings you've presented. For Askar vs. Zahak's, it's dependent on whether Askar saves you a swing before WS.

Head: use O.Hat, land those hits
Ears: Parse it between Brutal/Assault and Brutal/Fowling, although I don't think you'll notice much of a difference.
Body: You're set. Upgrades do exist but stick with what you have.
Hands: Again, you're set.
Rings: Sniper+1 is fine. Since you're unable to merit Polearm, the need for Accuracy is a lot clearer.
Back: Cuch is fine.
Waist: Tough one, consider parsing it.
Legs: I'm leaning toward Conte there.

As for WS its not all that different =( lol, any Sky LS ive had has been boring, cuz they didnt speak any english, well they did, but chose not to, or have broken apart before I could get anything. So im considering paying a Merc LS for Hecca pieces.

I haven't been playing Drg all that much lately, been leveling other jobs. Was wondering how my gear stacks up

TP Gear

Main: Thalassocrat
Sub: Pole grip
Ammo: Bibiki Seashell (Accidentally threw my Smart grenade :( )
Head: Askar (Have Ohat and Homam if I need either a little or a lot of acc)
Neck: PCC
Earrings: Brutal/Ethereal
Body: Ares (Also have Homam if I need the acc)
Hands: Dusk
Rings: Rajas/Ulthalum
Back: Amemet +1
Waist: Swift belt
Legs: Homam
Feet: Homam

For WS, I swap in AF+1 Hands, Ruby for the Ulthalum, Warwolf for Swift, and Barone legs and feet. I have the Abjs for Heca hands and feet, I've been too cheap/lazy to get them purified. Should I get the Heca hands, or stick with AF+1 hands? Is there anything else I should change?

Frankly Im thinking i should keep acc rings, which is what im doing currently.

i'd consider using spinel/ruby depending on how much acc you swap in for WS(ohat or wyvern?) and you should probably TP in life belt or potent belt considering that you don't have any acc on your ears. i think that would put you pritty close to acc cap on birds /sam.

Main/Sub: fine
Ammo: get Tiphia or Smart Grenade. Bibili Seashell is pointless outside a Jump macro.
Head/Neck: fine
Ears: Like I said, invest in Fowling and Assault Earrings. I don't really like DRGs using Bushi outside of Wheeling Thrust (indeed, if you replace it with Fowling, you lose one STR for Acc+3, which as we know is an awesome trade)
Body: Like I said in my earlier post, go back to Zahak's. There was a numbers thread a while ago which put Zahak's a fair bit ahead of Askar body, which in turn is stacks better than Assault Jerkin. To be honest, even a regular Scorpion Harness is a strong contender with the orange rugby shirt -- AJ's not bad for TP if you don't have anything better, but even I've finally put the **** thing in storage.
Hands: Good, but I'd keep Wyrm for WS until you get something like Heca.
Rings: Better (by the way, what is your WS set like?)
Back: fine

Quick question, where you have said fine for my gear, any chance you could put up what would make it great? Rather than just fine. Also, Fowling earring, no chance of me soloing the NMs is there? Although its gone down in price here on Ragnarok so wont be hard to obtain that way.

Where I've put "fine" I mean that what you've got is considered good so don't worry about it. There may in some cases be improvements, but either the upgrades are really small or they're quite tricky to get. For example, PCC is a big upgrade but it's expensive and not many people would complain too much if you don't have one. Ditto for Valkyrie's Fork, it's absolutely ace, but it comes from Odin so 'nuff said. On the other hand, upgrading from Amemet+1 to say Forager's is a difference of, well, STR+1.

Just got the gil for my last two ingots for Ares's Body, so decided to post up what you all think.

Weapons: Thalassocrat
Sub: Pole Grip (will be exchanging for Rose when I get AN to keep 6hit)
Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: Walahra Turban (got a mule to try and get Aces's Helm)
Neck: Chiv Chain
Ear1/2: Brutal/Assault
Body: Ares's Cuirass shortly
Hands: Dusk Gloves (in line for homam)
Rings1/2: Rajas Ring/Blood Ring (have access to ToAU ring, just haven't chosen yet)
Back: Amemet Mantle +1 (next upgrade, to either Cuchulan's Mantle or Foragers)
Waist: Swift Belt
Legs: Homam
Feet: Homam (I have Aurum, but use them mostly for ws)

This is just TP gear. My WS set needs work. Most of my time/gil has been spent trying to finish Ares's Cuirass.

Notable upgrades that I am working towards are Valkyries Fork (stupid T3's hate our LS, and odin refuses to drop weapons for my LS), Love Torque, Cuchulan's Mantle or Foragers Mantle, Ace's Helm.

Slight update to my previous post. Mostly looking for opinions regarding solo/duo on Tough or higher mobs. 8/8 Polearm merits and would be using /Blu as my preferred sub.

**Back in September I was hacked >.< but I caught it early enough where the damage wasn't that bad. My LS was awesome and helped me rebuild some of what was lost, but the **** hackers tossed my Smart Grenade. I'm planning on a Tiphia Sting but I gotta save up for it. Dunno what else to put here.

I don't have a whole lot of play time, so end game events and such are little out of my league right now.

You can quest a smart grenade on a mule and mail it to your main, despite it being ex. You need to be level 20 to do the quest though, so I'd recommend spending that time saving up gil for a tiphia rather than leveling your mule to 20.

Flame Gorget>PCC>Chiv>Ritter for Drakesbane yes?

You are most likelly at a high Crit Tier for birds but your at about 88.8% Acc without Hasso/Songs Swapping the neck out for PCC or Flame Gorget will put you at

93.8% Hit rate on your WS which is a huge difference. Rajas/Iota combo will probably push you to 95% without Hasso. Not to mention the 3 DEX pushing your crit rate much further.

Taru Base DEX 68? you would have about +43 in DEX gear 111 total. Which would be a pretty great Crit Rate for Drakesbane while having a Capped acc and a high STR rating.

The thing is that critical hit rate progression works oddly, it is neither an straight or an exponential curve, as far as the current test goes it will grow from 5% to 10% from delta-DEX = 1 to delta-DEX =40 (from here the legendary +8 DEX ~= +1% Critical hit)

However from delta-DEX=41 until delta-DEX=50 the ratio change dramatically, becoming +1% Critical for each DEX point, from there the statement in Caesura's post.

Many jobs and job/race combos can not reach delta-DEX over 40 w/o losing more than winning in the trade for a heavy DEX build, however for Thf's and Nin's (particularly Mithras) there are certain merits camps where these builds may work.

Keep that in mind though. Other then, that that is some top notch gear, myself I found that a STR ring will give me higher spikes when everything is ideal. But I like to stick with capped accuracy myself atleast on birds.

Hmm, I guess I should mention that in the majority of situations that I use Dragoon my sub job is Samurai. The only place where I don't sub /Sam is Einherjar (but we use bard rotation so I have double march, double minuet, double madrigal) and Campaign where I /Blu.

I was unaware that PCC and Chiv chain were considered better for Drakesbane. Does that notion apply only if/when your accuracy is uncapped? I used to WS in Chiv Chain but I sold it after getting Kubira Bead Necklace due to not having accuracy problems and figuring the str + dex would increase my overall damage.
I do intend to get a Gorget one day... but I hate farming stuff in sea, so it's a work in progress :/

I do need to make a specific Dex build for birds one of these days too. Is 111 Dex the ideal number to aim for? Or the bare minimum required to obtain a decent performance from a Dex build? (I tried searching the forums for the answer to that but I got far too many topics as results most of which had nothing specific to do with what I wanted to know)
