## AN OVERVIEW OF IMPORTANT NINJA STATS
## by MithraDooom
##
#########################################

--- Ninja before Level 37 ---
At low levels, ninja can be a hard job to gear. Your hate-keeping tools are minimal, your spells take a long time to cast and have low accuracy/attack, and you only have utsu: ichi.

Essentially, you'll be reliant upon your co-tank - if you don't have one, there's pretty much nothing you can do to make ninja pre-ni a success.

As such, we focus more on 37+, where solo tanking and DD roles become more viable, thanks first to Utsu Ni, then the elemental wheel, and eventually due to access to strong DD and haste gear.

NOTE: For a more comprehensive discussion on blink tanking and Utsusemi including pulling it off before L37 then check out the Guide to Blink Tanking and Utsusemi by Jahava.

--- INT, Magic Accuracy, Magic Attack ---
Where a piece of +int, magic accuracy, or magic attack gear is listed, this willl normally be for the elemental wheel - your elemental nukes.

Like a blm's nuke, these deal damage based on your magic attack, magic accuracy, and intelligence stats, with your ninjutsu magic skill affecting their accuracy.
These are very potent between level 40 and 55 or so - after that, their effectiveness drops off compared to melee DD.

At higher levels, pieces raising ninjutsu skill might be used to help land enfeebles.

To learn more about how these stats are used check out the NIN/RDM|BLM 101: FAQ and Strategy guide.

--- Attack, Accuracy, and DEX ---
When gearing for melee DD, you have a few different stats to balance.
The main ones will be attack and accuracy...
   * accuracy - obviously, to hit the mob more often.
   * attack - to hit the mob for more damage.

Raising your attack is more effective, generally, than raising your strength, due to how damage calculations are worked out.

For weaponskills, the focus shifts a bit more onto the modifiers of the WS in question - for most katana WS, these are str and dex.
However, attack can also be effective for WS if available in large amounts (e.g, O-kotes).

Dex also helps with accuracy - +2 dex = 1 acc for katanas - but it's rare to find places where you could gear for dex where more accuracy isn't available.

Remember! Ninja isn't like warrior or other jobs which can tear monsters apart with a huge weapon skill.
Our DD potential comes from a steady stream of hits, with weapon skills providing small spikes.

--- Haste ---
Haste is also important, especially in large amounts (generally, 10%+).

The way haste is calculated means that it gets better and better as you add more, so while 3% alone may not be a big upgrade (such as Fumas at lvl 39), it's increasing availability at higher levels, plus March and Haste spells, makes it highly valued.

Remember! Haste is pointless for DDing if it only means you miss the mob faster.

Haste also has an effect on reducing your spell re-cast timers as well as the delay between melee attacks.

I would say in general too that a "Haste Build" certainly does come into its own more at 75 (when you can equip 10% more Haste).
However, what you need to consider prior to that is that Haste isn't just from gear.
Wearing Fumas and a Swift belt alone isn't much, but if you're getting Haste as well...could be worthwhile. - additional comments from Isiolia.

See this post for information on wearing more haste gear from L50+.
Too see how Dual Wield and haste work together check out the How exactly does Dual Wield and Haste stack? post.

--- Evasion ---
Evasion in exp can be a hard thing to use properly, but is worth considering, especially for certain level ranges (between 40 and 55, I found using an evasion build and ninjutsu nukes to be an amazing way of tanking and DDing at the same time, without taking much damage).

If you find yourself holding hate comfortably, it can be worth swapping a few pieces of evasion gear in to make your life easier.

At high levels though, it's generally reserved for soloing, or tanking in low-man events or certain NMs, such as Charby. +agi also aids with evasion, with two points of agi raising evasion by one.

NOTE: Evasion and evasion skill are slightly different.

There is an excellent post Basic Evasion Testing by SKSmokes in the thf forum. To be honest the whole thread is fascinating reading, read all of it.
Again from the Thief forum there is another post on Can you equip too much evasion? which is another good discussion on how evasion works.

--- Enmity ---
Enmity gains increasing importance at mid-high levels (after the wheel stops being as effective), and then again for end-game.

In exp, it's worth using if you don't sacrifice too much in terms of DD stats - for example, I'd say using Eris earrings over Spike earrings makes sense, but I preferred Haubergeon over Arhat's Gi.

The mid-high levels in exp can be very hard on ninja.
Popular exp targets have low defence, and DDs gain their strongest weapon skills and such - e.g rampage.
It can be hard to compete on pure DD terms, so making using of enmity will help.

Enmity gear can also be macroed in for specific purposes such as Provoke, Warcry, Elemental & Enfeebling ninjutsu, and black magic spells and job abilities for /drk.
Having additional enmity equipped before any of these increases the hate you will receive after using them.
Just make sure to macro them out after they have fired. - additional comments from landael.

For more information on Enmity check out Kanican's Enmity Testing (Part V) journal

## OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER
##
#########################################

I'll add any other useful equipment type tips people want to suggest here.

--- Night time builds ---
Ninja has a number of pieces of armour that have very nice stats (especially evasion and haste) at night time.
So much so that it's recommended that you put together a special night-time build to take full advantage of these.

--- Utsusemi gear swaps ---
Some gear is great to swap in when casting Utsusemi.
Typically the armour with the following are swapped in...
   * haste - will allow Utsusemi to be cast quicker.
   * evasion - will increase the chance the mob won't hit you while casting.

Some people prefer to only swap slots which won't cause you to blink - additional comments from landael

Example gear swap which will help but won't case you to blink are...
Evasion Torque
Swift Belt (haste) Scouter's rope (evasion)
Boxer's Mantle
Evasion Earring
Ethereal Earring
Wivre Ring x2

## HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR KATANAS
##
#########################################

When it comes to Katanas there isn't an exact formulae on how to choose your weapon but there are some guide lines to consider.

This next quotes really sums up the basic "rule of thumb" when choosing a katana.

galkaBST wrote:

Rules:
1) Get the best damage per second that you can
2) It is okay to have a higher delay weapon in your main hand if it provides a higher base damage for WS
3) Support abilities are nice on katanas, but before anything else they are weapons. And damage = hate. So do damage.

Isiolia wrote:

Mostly what I looked at were overall DPS, cost, and for some, the added effect.
IMO, it's not worth paying a lot for katanas as you level.

By the time you really get the gear elsewhere, and Blade: Jin, you have good, affordable options, and endgame is mostly the same.

After that, frankly, it becomes a matter of what Rare/Ex you get.

Katana set-up alone obviously doesn't make up for much though.
It's a lot more about having the Haste/DW speed with stats to back it up.

The following denotes the stats the equipment is mainly used for.
[DD] = DD or WS gear
[EVA] = Evasion gear
[INT] = INT, Magic Attack, and Magic accuracy gear
[HST] = Haste gear
[ENM] = Enmity gear

#########################################
##
## ARMOUR
##
#########################################

--- Head ---

Level 1 - Cache-nez - [ENM]
Def: 2 Enmity: 2
Very nice Enmity piece for Enmity macro.

Level 14 - Erudite's Headband - [EVA] [INT]
Def: 4 INT: 1 Evasion: 3
Good defence, int bonus, and evasion. This one is recommended.

Level 14 - Cotton Headband - [EVA]
Def: 3 Evasion: 3
Less defence, but same evasion as Erudite's. Realistically either will do.

Level 24 - Emperor Hairpin / Empress Hairpin (RareEx) - [EVA]
HP: -15 DEX: 3 AGI: 3 Evasion: 10
Either of these are the best evasion pieces and the added agi helps. This is one of those pieces of gear that every nin should have.

Level 26 - Dodge Headband - [EVA]
Def: 5 Evasion: 3
Replace Cotton Headband if you are still wearing one.

Level 36 - Alluring Headband - [EVA]
Def: 7 CHR: 1 Evasion: 4
Replace what you are currently wearing unless you've a Emperor/Empress.

Level 41 - Voyager Sallet (RareEx) - [DD]
STR: 3 DEX: 4
First WS piece available, macro it into WS. Drops from Carmine Dobsonfly in Riverne - Site #A01.

Level 43 - Walkure Mask - [DD]
Def: 11 HP: 15 Attack: 6
This is a good DD piece but may not be the best option until ToAU. You should still be focusing on evasion and INT gear for now.

Level 46 - Juggler's Headband - [EVA]
Def: 9 DEX: 2 CHR: -1 Evasion: 5
Replace your Alluring Headband with this.

Level 50 - Rival Ribbon - [ENM]
Def: 15 MP: 16 Enmity: 2
Another Enmity macro piece.

Level 50 - Storm Zucchetto (RareEx) - [DD] [INT]
Accuracy: 4 Magic Accuracy: 2
Very good acc piece, especially useful against ToAU mobs which have high evasion.

Level 54 - Silk Headband - [EVA]
Def: 9 Evasion: 5
Another nice evasion head piece, you can replace Juggler's with it.

Level 56 - Ninja Hatsuburi (AF) - [INT]
Def: 21 HP: 10 CHR: 5 Vs. Ice: 10 Ninjutsu Skill: 5
Can be macroed in to nin enfeebles.

Level 63 - Arhat's Jinpachi - [ENM]
Def: 19 Enmity: 1 Physical Damage Taken: -4%
This is ideal for an end game damage reduction set. Can also be used in your enmity macro. The HQ is the one to go for.

Level 65 - Wivre Mask - [EVA]
Def: 20 STR: 2 VIT: 2 Evasion: 10
Another great evasion piece, with very high defence, and some VIT. Debatable whether you would replace a Emperor/Empress with this.

Level 67 - Prism Headband - [EVA]
Def: 11 Evasion: 8
Again a very good evasion piece.

Level 70 - Optical Hat (RareEx) - [DD] [EVA]
Evasion: 10 Ranged Accuracy: 10 Accuracy: 10
Excellent accuracy, evasion, ranged accuracy. One of the best head pieces in the game. Try hard to get one.

Level 71 - Hissho Hachimaki - [DD]
Def: 22 Accuracy: 8 Attack: 8
This is a new piece, stats look good, nice defence, attack and accuracy bonus. You could replace your O.hat with this for exp. O.hat is still recommended when you need the evasion.

Level 71 - Yasha Jinpachi - [ENM] [INT]
Def: 23 INT: 7 Spell Interruption Rate: -4% Enmity: 2
Very nice for an enmity macro and the extra int could be macroed into nin enfeebles.

Level 72 - Enkidu's Cap - [DD]
Def: 23 DEX: 3 AGI: 3 Accuracy: 8 Ranged Accuracy: 8 Subtle Blow: 2
Has nice acc and ranged stats, I would still give O.hat the edge.

Level 72 - Pahluwan Qalansuwa (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 15 HP: 25 Attack: 5 Ranged Accuracy: 7 Accuracy: 7 (Set: Enhances "Subtle Blow" Effect)
Has some nice DD stats, but don't think it's worth the assault points for so few levels.

Level 73 - Koga Hatsuburi (AF2) (RareEx) - [INT]
Def: 22 HP: 20 Enhances "Ninjutsu Damage" Effect (Nighttime: Parrying: 10)
This one is primarily for Elemental Ninjitsu

Level 73 - Shura Zunari Kabuto - [DD]
Def: 20 HP: -25 STR: 5 Accuracy: 5
This is a great WS macro piece, it still has good accuracy and nice STR too.

Level 74 - Ninja Hatsuburi +1 (AF+1) (RareEx) - [EVA] [INT]
Def: 22 HP: 10 AGI: 8 CHR: 8 Evasion: 8 Ninjutsu Skill: 5
This is the best eva head tank piece for NIN & some nice CHR for DNC cures.

Level 75 - Usukane Somen (RareEx) - [DD] [EVA] [HST]
Def: 20 STR: 3 AGI: 3 Accuracy: 7 Evasion: 7 Haste: 3% (Set: Enhances Haste Effect)
Like all Usukane, stats blow most other pieces of gear away. There is a lot of work in obtaining one. Out of reach for most people.

Level 75 - Walahra Turban (RareEx) - [HST]
HP: 30 MP: 30 Haste: 5%
One of the main pieces of a haste build. You will likely be using it for meriting.

Level 75 - Denali Bonnet (RareEx) - [EVA] [HST]
Def: 21 AGI: 4 MND: 4 Haste: 4% Evasion: 3 Attack: 3 (Set: Increases Accuracy)
Has slightly less haste then Walahra, but evasion and some DD benefit. You would need to parse this against Walahra to see which works best for you.

--- Neck ---

Level 7 - Wing Pendant
AGI: 1 Vs. Earth: 1 Vs. Wind: 1
To be honest you could skip this but it's free from an easy quest.

Level 21 - Spike Necklace - [DD]
STR: 3 DEX: 3 MND: -6
Very good offensive neck piece, get the HQ Spike, wearing the NQ Fang is unforgivable.

Level 21 - Tiger Stole - [DD]
Def: 2 Attack: 5
This one has nice attack. Some prefer to use this over Spike.

Level 33 - Peacock Amulet (RareEx) / Peacock Charm - [DD]
Vs. Dark: -10 Accuracy: 10 Ranged Accuracy: 10
These have amazing accuracy and ranged accuracy. Your dot will improve a lot with this one. Still considered a luxury as they are still relatively expensive.

Level 38 - Spirit Torque - [EVA]
MP: 10 Evasion: 5
Nice evasion piece, good for events. You could also consider it for exp if you are over hunting. Spike or Peacock would be preferred as more damage = more hate.

Level 50 - Intellect Torque - [INT]
Def: 4 INT: 2
This piece can be macroed into enfeebles.

Level 55 - Royal Guard's Collar - [DD]
Def: 6 Attack: 4 Accuracy: 4
Nice DD stats. You could consider replacing your evasion piece now you're at ToAU camps.

Level 58 - Torque - [INT]
Def: 4 INT: 1 MND: 1 CHR: 1
Another enfeeble macro piece.

Level 59 - Spectacles - [DD]
Def: 2 Vs. Ice: -7 Ranged Accuracy: 7 Accuracy: 7
This is an excellent neck piece, and much cheaper then in the past. This will replace anything but Peacock in exp parties.

Level 60 - Chivalrous Chain - [DD]
Def: 4 STR: 3 Accuracy: 5 Store TP: 1
This one has some good accuracy. A Peacock or Spectacles are still preferred.

Level 65 - Evasion Torque - [EVA]
HP: 7 Evasion Skill: 7
This has a nice bonus to evasion skill, would be useful at end-game, soloing, and events. Avoid using this in exp, you'll need accuracy more for these levels.

Level 65 - Ninjutsu Torque - [INT]
Vs. Ice: 5 Ninjutsu Skill: 7
Again this is a macro piece for nin enfeebles.

Level 72 - Breeze Gorget - [DD]
(Latent Effect: Increases Weapon Skill Accuracy and Damage)
This is the good for Blade:Jin WS macro, but Peacock Charm, Hope Torque are close.

Level 72 - Harmonia's Torque - [ENM]
Def: 7 STR: 2 VIT: -5 Enmity: 3
Another good enmity swap piece.

Level 73 - Hope Torque (RareEx) - [DD]
AGI: 5 Archery Skill: 7 Katana Skill: 7
Very nice improvement in katana skill. You may need an acc neck piece until you have enough katana merits to offset the loss of acc.

Level 74 - Ancient Torque - [DD]
DEX: 4 Accuracy: 9
Very nice accuracy, this is probably the best neck piece for exp/merit.

Level 75 - Ritter Gorget (RareEx) - [ENM] [EVA]
Def: 8 HP: 25 Evasion: 5 Enmity: 3
A very nice Enmity macro piece.

--- Earrings ---

Level 1 - Cassie Earring
Def: 2 STR: 1 VIT: 1 Convert MP to HP: 50
Very nice for a max hp build, quite handy in end game

Level 16 - Bone Earring +1 - [DD]
Attack: 2 Evasion: -1
The additional attack outweighs the minimal loss of evasion.

Level 24 - Beetle Earring +1 - [DD]
Attack: 3 Evasion: -2
Get the +1, they can last a long time.

Level 29 - Dodge Earring - [EVA]
Evasion: 3
I'm not sure they are ideal for exp, possibly more useful for L30 CoP.

Level 29 - Cunning Earring - [INT]
INT: 1
This is a nin enfeeble macro piece.

Level 30 - Morion Earring - [INT]
MP: 4 INT: 1
INT earrings for ni wheel, try to pick up two of the +1's.

Level 35 - Evasion Earring - [EVA]
Evasion: 3
This is a nice evasion earring with no negative attack stats. Especially useful for times when you are stacking lots of evasion.

Level 35 - Ninjutsu Earring - [INT]
Ninjutsu Skill: 3
Again another nin enfeebles macro piece, this one can be useful but 2 x Beetle would still be prefered for TP and WS.

Level 47 - Moldavite Earring (RareEx) - [INT]
Magic Attack Bonus: 5
This adds a bonus to magic attack, is useful for the elemental ni wheel.

Level 50 - Storm Loop (RareEx) - [DD]
Attack: 5 (Assault: Attack: 10)
The attack with no evasion penalty is nice, unfortunatly the drop rate on it is poor.

Level 52 - Accurate Earring - [DD]
Accuracy: 2
More acc is nice, but they are costly for such a small acc bonus. I personally don't think they are worth it.

Level 54 - Eris' Earring - [ENM]
Enmity: 2
A very nice Enmity earring for your enmity macro.

Level 55 - Spike Earring - [DD]
Evasion: -5 Attack: 5
Replace your Beetle +1 with these.

Level 60 - Elusive Earring - [EVA]
Def: 1 Evasion: 5
Earring with nice evasion but no atk penalty, there are more for soloing, not recommended for exp.

Level 61 - Naruko Earring (RareEx) - [ENM]
(Enchantment: Enmity: 10)
These are more an end-game Enmity piece, and a poor drop rate to boot.

Level 63 - Coral Earring - [DD]
Magic Damage Taken: -1% Evasion: -5 Attack: 5
These can replace Spike, the HQ mermans are particularly worth picking up.

Level 65 - Diabolos's Earring (RareEx) - [DD] [INT]
Accuracy +3 (Dark Weather: Accuracy -3 and Magic Accuracy +2).
Very nice accuracy ring. In Dark Weather you lose the acc but gain Magic Accuracy for your elemental enfeebles.

Level 67 - Triumph Earring - [DD]
STR: 2 Vs. Fire: 11 Vs. Ice: 11
This is a WS macro piece.

Level 67 - Vampire Earring - [DD]
(Nighttime: VIT: 4 STR: 4)
Very good night time stats, good for soloing and WS macros (at night)

Level 70 - Fenrir's Earring (RareEx) - [DD]
(Nighttime: Ranged Attack: 10) (Daytime: Attack: 10)
Nice attack bonus at day. It has limited night time use.

Level 72 - Ethereal Earring (RareEx) - [DD]
HP: 15 Evasion: 5 Attack: 5 Converts Damage Taken to MP: 3%
Nice earring with some good DD stats, especially good for soloing.Reward from Apocalypse Nigh

Level 72 - Hollow Earring (RareEx) - [DD]
DEX: 2 Ranged Accuracy: 3 Accuracy: 3 (Sword Enhancement: Spell Damage)
Slightly better DD earring than Ethereal, great for WS macros. Could be worn full time if you don't have Suppa.

Level 72 - Suppanomimi (RareEx) - [DD]
AGI: 2 Sword Skill: 5 Enhances Dual Wield Effect
This is one of the best earrings for nin, and it's probably the most useful of all the Divine Might earrings.

Level 72 - Bushinomimi (RareEx) - [DD]
STR: 2 Great Katana Skill: 5 Parrying Skill: 5
Another Divine Might earring, not as useful for nin, is still a good WS macro piece.

Level 75 - Brutal Earring (RareEx) - [DD]
Store TP: 1 Enhances "Double Attack" Effect
Excellent earring for NIN, you'll probably be wearing this one full time.

Level 75 - Loquacious Earring (RareEx)
MP: 30 Enhances "Fast Cast" Effect
Very good end-game earring or can also be a macro piece for utsu. Fast casts are nice.

--- Body ---

- Use any body piece before 13 -
Level 13 - Power Gi - [DD]
Def: 12 STR: 1
Nice defence and some str to boot. This is nice.

Level 16 - Bone Harness +1 - [EVA]
Def: 15 Vs. Fire: -3 Evasion: 1
If you find you're tanking a lot at these levels then evasion bonus and good defence make this worth while.

Level 21 - Beetle Harness +1 - [EVA]
Def: 18 Vs. Ice: -3 Evasion: 1
Upgrade of the Bone +1, again nice defence and evasion.

Level 25 - Federation Gi - [EVA]
Def: 17 VIT: 1 Evasion: 3
First body piece with some good evasion. Get the Federation.

Level 30 - Nanban Kariginu - [DD]
Def: 21 Attack: 3
Nice defense and some attack to boot. It's a close call on whether it replaces Federation.

Level 33 - RSE Body - [DD] [INT]
If your RSE body has an INT bonus you might need to pick them up for the elemental ni wheel at L40+. Some also have nice STR which could be used in a WS macro.

Level 35 - Hikazu Hara-ate (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 25 DEX: 1 Accuracy: 1 Store TP: 1
This has some nice DD stats and more defence, would replace Nanban. You will need a 75 job and be involved in Salvage to get one.

Level 40 - Jujitsu Gi - [DD]
Def: 27 Accuracy: 4
This is an amazing body and can last for a long time. Can be costly.

Level 40 - Royal Squire's Chainmail
Def: 31 DEX: 1
An alternative to Jujitsu Gi at this level, the Gi is still the preferred option.

Level 45 - Brigandine Armor
Def: 32 HP: 10 DEX: 2 VIT: 2
Replace your Royal Squire's Chainmail with this, it doesn't replace Jujitsu Gi. The +1 does have some AGI and INT on it.

Level 49 - Shinobi Gi +1 - [EVA]
Def: 34 Evasion: 3
Strong evasion piece, only the +1 is useful with the Evasion bonus. More likely to be used for missions or soloing.

Level 50 - Nokizaru Gi (RareEx) - [ENM]
Def: 31 AGI: 4 Enmity: 1
Nice tanking piece and it's free if you are far enough in CoP. Excellent for capped missions etc.

Level 55 - Royal Knight's Chainmail - [DD]
Def: 43 STR: 2 DEX: 2 Attack: 3
An average piece by todays standards, not really recommended any longer.

Level 55 - Jaridah Peti - [DD]
Def: 42 HP: -25 Accuracy: 5 Attack: 5 Ranged Accuracy: 5
Great DD stats at a time when you need to go with more offensive gear. Highly recommended body piece.

Level 57 - Scorpion Harness - [EVA] [DD]
Def: 40 HP: 15 Vs. Ice: -20 Vs. Water: 15 Vs. Dark: 15 Evasion: 10 Accuracy: 10
Good Accuracy and Evasion, you will need this regardless on whether you choose to use a Hauby.

Level 58 - Ninja Chainmail (AF)(RareEx) - [DD] [HST]
Def: 41 HP: 15 VIT: 3 (Enhances Dual Wield Effect) (Physical Damage: "Blaze Spikes" effect)
This one is excellent in a haste/DW oriented build when you have enough accuracy. Realistically it becomes effective when your 75 and merited.

Level 59 - Haubergeon - [DD]
Def: 45 STR: 5 DEX: 5 AGI: -5 Accuracy: 10 Attack: 10 Evasion: -20
One of the best body pieces in the game, you really shouldn't level any futher until you have one.

Level 64 - Arhat's Gi - [ENM]
Def: 38 Enmity: 3 Physical Damage Taken: -6%
Excellent body for a damage reduction set. Can also be used as a Enmity Macro piece. The +1 is highly recommended for all end-game nin.

Level 67 - Assault Jerkin (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 42 Attack: 18 Accuracy: 3 HP: -1%
Not a great piece for nin, the loss of acc is going to hurt your dot a lot.

Level 70 - War Shinobi Gi
Def: 43 STR: -2 AGI: 2 (Adds "Regen" Effect) Throwing Skill: 10
Useful for it's regen effect when idling between mobs. The ranged accuracy is also nice for end-game wind debuffs.

Level 71 - Yasha Samue - [ENM] - [INT]
Def: 43 INT: 3 Parrying Skill: 3 (Spell interruption rate down: 10%) Enmity: 4
Enmity Macro piece, added int could also be used enfeeble macro.

Level 71 - Antares Harness - [EVA] [DD]
Def: 50 HP: 15 DEX: 8 AGI: 8 Evasion: 8 Accuracy: 8
A new body piece that gives a Scoprion Harness a run for its money. Hauby still better IMO.

Level 72 - Enkidu's Harness (RareEx) - [DD] [EVA]
Def: 50 STR: 5 AGI: 5 Accuracy: 10 Attack: 10 Evasion: 5 Subtle Blow: 5
Has some nice DD stats, and extra evasion. Still unlikely to replace your hauby.

Level 72 - Pahluwan Khazagand (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 42 HP: 20 Ranged Accuracy: 10 Accuracy: 10 (HP recovered while healing: 2) (Increases Rate of Critical Hits) (Set: Enhances "Subtle Blow" Effect)
Good end-game ranged accuracy piece (i.e. throwing wind debuffs on sky gods). It's been reported the +crits effect on this doesn't work.

Level 73 - Shura Togi (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 40 HP: -50 Accuracy: 10 Attack: 20
This is a good piece but usually used for jobs that can't wear a Hauby.

Level 74 - Koga Chainmail (RareEx)(AF2) - [DD]
Def: 46 Ranged Attack: 8 Ranged Accuracy: 8 Attack: 16 Accuracy: 12
You're not going to see a huge difference between this and an NQ Hauby in terms of TP gear (Koga isn't great for WS anyway). Your lotting rights might be better used elsewhere.

Level 74 - Ninja Chainmail +1 (RareEx)(AF+1)
Def: 46 HP: 15 DEX: 5 VIT: 5 (Enhances Dual Wield Effect) (Physical Damage: "Shock Spikes" Effect)
This is a nice update to AF body and excellent in a haste/DW oriented build when you have enough accuracy. Again it becomes effective when your 75 and merited.

Level 75 - Kirin's Osode - [DD] [INT]
Def: 52 MP: 30 STR: 10 DEX: 10 VIT: 10 AGI: 10 INT: 10 MND: 10 CHR: 10 Vs. Light: 50
Has some great INT for elemental enfeebles. It could possibly be used if you have capped accuracy, but AF is preferred in this scenario.

Level 75 - Hachiryu Haramaki (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 52 Attack: 20 Accuracy: 20 Critical Hit Rate: 5% (Enhances "Zanshin" Effect) (Set: Enhances "Store TP" effect)
Excellent body for both TP and WS.

Level 75 - Usukane Haramaki (RareEx) - [DD] [EVA] [INT]
Def: 40 STR: 8 DEX: 8 INT: 8 Store TP: 6 Evasion: 12 Accuracy: 12 (Set: Enhances Haste Effect)
Has some nice evasion and accuracy which makes it useful for soloing/events etc. The lack of attack means other Body pieces such as Hauby, Shura, and Koga are better choices in exp/merit.

Def: 7 Accuracy: 3 Ranged Accuracy: 3

This have good accuracy. Only worth considering if you can't get Federation.

Level 34 - Horomusha Kote - [DD]

Level 34 - Ochiudo's Kote / Ochimusha Kote (RareEx) - [DD]

Level 50 - Royal Knight's Mufflers - [DD]
Def: 13 Accuracy: 3
Has some accuracy but still weaker then any of the L34 hands.

Level 50 - Storm Manopolas (RareEx) - [ENM] [EVA]

Level 70 - Tarasque Mitts - [DD]

Another Enmity macro piece

Level 72 - Dusk Gloves / Dusk Gloves +1 - [HST] [DD]
Def: 24 HP: 20 Attack: 5 Haste: 3% (Decreases Movement Speed)

Decent Solo/Eva build gear if you don't have Seiryu's kote.

Level 74 - Noritsune Kote - [DD]

Def: 18 HP: 13 STR: 6 DEX: 6 Throwing Skill: 5 Ranged Attack: 20 Ranged Accuracy: 20

Very good tanking hands, but more common in solo or evasion builds nowadays.

Level 75 - Koga Tekko (RareEx)(AF2) - [HST] [DD]
Def: 18 Ninja Tool Expertise (Nighttime: STR: 12 Haste: 4%)
These should be worn full time at night. NOTE: Haste is only active at night. Should be part of a night time build. Ninja tool expertise works about 25-33% of the time.

Level 75 - Usukane Gote (RareEx) - [EVA] [DD]
Def: 20 Evasion: 10 Accuracy: 10 Counter: 2 Subtle Blow: 5 (Set: Enhances Haste Effect)

STR: 1 Vs. Fire: 3 (Enchantment: Attack +5 Ranged Attack +5)

You'll want 2 of these and wear them full time for TP. Highly recommended.

Level 40 - Woodsman Ring - [DD]
Evasion: -5 Ranged Accuracy: 5 Accuracy: 5
These are always debated with the negative evasion. You can get away with them but they are a slightly weaker choice then Snipers.

Level 43 - Mermaid Ring (Rare) - [ENM]
Vs. Water: 3 Enmity: 2
This is an Enmity macro piece.

Level 49 - Ecphoria Ring (Rare) - [DD]
Accuracy: 4 Store TP: 1 (Enchantment: Cure Amnesia)
A recent addition, has some nice stats and cheaper then the L40, I'd still prefer the +5 accuracy.

Level 50 - Shinobi Ring - [HST]
(Latent Effect - Haste: 4%)
The latent is activated by yellow HP and TP less then 100. A possibility for a Utsusemi macro? I personally wouldn't bother with it.

Level 50 - Ulthalam's Ring (RareEx) - [DD]

Very nice DD stats on this one, could realistically replace a +5 accuracy ring. Reward for finishing ToAU missions.

Second best accuracy ring in the game with a price tag to match.

One of the best tanking rings out there, not really applicable for DD.

Physical Damage Taken: 8% Magic Damage Taken: -8%
Good tanking ring, drops from the same NM as Mars above, not the easiest to get.

Level 75 - Omega Ring (RareEx) - [INT]

--- Back ---

Level 12 - Traveler's Mantle - [EVA]
Def: 1 Evasion: 3
Very good evasion back piece.

Level 18 - Breath Mantle - [ENM]
Def: 3 (Enchantment: HP +18 Enmity +3 - 50 charges, each one lasts 30 minutes)
This is a great tanking back piece, enmity keeps the mob looking at you. Don't swap it out after using a charge.

Level 24 - Nomad's Mantle - [EVA]
Def: 2 AGI: 1 Evasion: 3
An upgrade to the Traveler's Mantle.

Level 30 - Mercenary Mantle - [ENM]
Def: 2 Latent Effect: Enmity: 1

Level 36 - High Breath Mantle - [ENM]
Def: 5 Vs. Ice: 5 (Enchantment: HP +38 Enmity +5 -50 charges, each one lasts 30 minutes)
Upgrade to the Breath Mantle and one of the best tanking back pieces in the game. I'd highly recommend using this over an evasion piece. Again never swap out after using a charge.

Level 40 - Resentment Cape (RareEx) - [ENM]
Def: 8 Enmity: 2(In areas outside own nation's control: Magic damage taken: -5%)
Very nice for enmity swaps.

Level 46 - Bat Cape - [EVA]
Def: 6 Vs. Dark: 5 Evasion: 5
Upgrade to the evasion back pieces.

Level 47 - Jaguar Mantle - [DD]
Def: 4 Evasion: 1 Attack: 3
The first of the DD back pieces. Still weaker then the High Breath.

A possible macro piece for nin enfeebles, again do not swap out a Breath/High Breath.

Level 61 - Amemet Mantle +1 - [DD]

One of the best DD pieces in the game, you can keep it on permanently. You could replace High Breath with this. Get the +1.

Level 70 - Boxer's Mantle (RareEx) - [EVA]
Def: 8 Evasion Skill: 10 Parrying Skill: 10 Shield Skill: 10 Guarding skill: 10

Level 70 - Charger Mantle (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 7 Ranged Attack: -10 Ranged Accuracy: -10 Attack: 20
Has good DD stats but 150 ancient beastcoins make it a very expensive item.

Level 71 - Aileron Mantle (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 5 Accuracy: 6 Ranged Accuracy: 6
This has some nice accuracy, and can be used if you have accuracy problems. An Amemet+1 would still be preferred over this.

Level 71 - Forager's Mantle - [DD]
Def: 7 STR: 3 Attack: 15
Same attack as Amemet +1 with more STR, realistically either of them will do.

Level 71 - Corse Cape - [EVA]
Def: 9 Resist vs. Dark: 7 Evasion: 7
Some nice evasion which is suitable for end-game/event/soloing.

Level 72 - Toreador's Cape - [ENM] [EVA]
Def: 7 Evasion: 9 Enmity: 4
With such a negative hidden stat (you take more critical hits), I'd recommend it more as a Enmity macro piece rather then wearing it full time.

Level 74 - Cuchulain's Mantle - [DD]
Def: 8 STR: 4 DEX: 4 Accuracy: 5
Like Aileron Mantle this has some nice accuracy and other DD stats. An Amemet +1 or Forager's would still be better.

Level 75 - Cerberus Mantle - [DD] [ENM]
Def: 12 STR: 3 Vs. Fire: 10 Attack: 12 Enmity: 3
This piece has some very good stats but it also costs a lot. If you have the gil then I'd recommend it.

Level 75 - Cerberus Mantle +1 - [DD] [ENM]
Def: 13 STR: 4 Vs. Fire: 12 Attack: 15 Enmity: 4
This one is outstanding, but could cost you up to 20m on some servers.

Get the +1 it's one of the best belts for a long time.

This is a nice belt, has some good evasion. Particurlary good for BCNM40 or capped prommies.

Level 40 - Tilt Belt - [DD]
Def: 3 Accuracy: 5 Evasion: -5
This has some nice accuracy but the evasion penalty can be off putting. I wore one and didn't have any problems with it.

Level 40 - Druid's Rope - [INT]
Def: 3 INT: 1 MND: 1 CHR: 1 Spell Interruption Rate: -10%
The INT bonus on this is ideal for a elemental ni wheel build.

Level 41 - Quick Belt - [HST]
HP: -15 Haste: 2%
The haste on this isn't of much use yet, could possible be used with haste feet to lower Utesumi recast times.

Level 43 - Swordbelt +1 - [DD]
Def: 5 Attack: 12
Very strong DD stats, could replace tilt if you are doing low IT/VT mobs.

Level 48 - Life Belt - [DD]
Accuracy: 10
Replace any waist piece with this, the additional accuracy does wonder for your dot.

Level 50 - Swift Belt (RareEx) - [HST] [DD]
Haste: 4% Attack: -5 Accuracy: 3
A very good haste belt, could be used now with other haste pieces if you are guaranteed haste from a whm or rdm, ensure you have enough accuracy to pull it off. Could also be used to lower Utesumi recast times until then.

Level 55 - Speed Belt / Velocious Belt (RareEx) - [HST]
Haste: 6%
One of the best haste pieces in the game, could be used now with other haste pieces if you are guaranteed haste from a whm or rdm, ensure you have enough accuracy to pull it off. Could also be used to lower Utesumi recast times until then.

Level 60 - Potent Belt - [DD]
Def: 5 STR: 3 Accuracy: 8
This is a nice DD belt but Life Belt would still be a better choice for both TP and WS.

Level 70 - Koga Sarashi (RareEx) [EVA] [INT] [HST]
Def: 4 Magic Accuracy: 2 Haste: 4% Evasion: 4
Another good haste belt, would replace Swift belt. Dropped from mobs in Dynamis.

Level 71 - Warwolf Belt - [DD] [ENM]
Def: 6 STR: 5 DEX: 5 VIT: 5 Enmity: 3
Very good WS macro belt, enmity also makes it a useful enmity macro piece. Keep accuracy or haste belt for TP.

Very nice Enmity macro piece.

Level 73 - Scouter's Rope - [EVA]

Level 75 - Ninurta's Sash - [HST] [DD]

Simply an amazing piece, but you'll go through hell for it.

Level 75 - Nu Sash (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 6 Accuracy: 10 Salvage: Subtle Blow: 5
Essentially a life belt with some defence. It doesn't really offer anything over Life Belt.

These are a good with nice evasion, you'll need to decide between these or Republic.

Level 25 - Republic Subligar - [DD]
Def: 13 VIT: 1 Ranged Attack: 5 Attack: 5
Amazing DD stats but SE makes the rest of your pt pay having to look at you.

Level 31 - RSE legs - [DD] [INT]
Again if your RSE legs have an INT bonus they might be worth picking up for the elemental ni wheel at L40+.

Level 40 - Royal Squire's Breeches
Def: 22 DEX: 1 AGI: 1
These are of minimal benefit, stick with either of the L25 pieces.

Level 50 - Nokizaru Hakama - [ENM]

Another possible Enemity macro piece.

Level 71 - Koga Hakama (RareEx)(AF2) - [DD] [EVA]

Level 72 - Pahluwan Seraweels (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 36 STR: 3 Ranged Accuracy: 4 Accuracy: 4 (Set: Enhances "Subtle Blow" Effect)
Has some good melee stats, and could also be used as a WS macro swap.

Level 72 - Dusk Trousers - [DD]
Def: 47 HP: 35 Ranged Accuracy: 10 Attack: 14 Decreases Movement Speed
Very good melee stats and the best AH piece you can currently get.

Level 73 - Shura Haidate (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 30 HP: -35 STR: 5 Accuracy: 7
These are an excellent for both TP and WS. If you have Byakko's, these can be used in WS macro if you badly need the accuracy.

Def: 30 STR: 5 DEX: 5 Haste: 3% Attack: 10 (Set: Enhances Haste Effect)

Replace your leaping boots with these.

Level 25 - Federation Kyahan - [DD]
Def: 6 Vs. Earth: 6 Attack: 4 Ranged Attack: 4
Good defence, attack, and ranged attack. I've seen these worn into the 70s!!!

Level 29 - RSE Feet - [DD] [INT]
If your RSE feet have an INT bonus you might need to pick them up for the elemental ni wheel at L40+.

Level 38 - Mountain Gaiters - [INT]
Def: 7 STR: 1 INT: 2 Spell Interruption Rate: -5% Evasion: 2
These are ideal for the elemental ni wheel and they have evasion too. Nice.

Again this may only be beneficial for Utseumi recast, much more useful later on.

Level 54 - Ninja Kyahan (RareEx)(AF1)
Def: 12 HP: 12 AGI: 4 (Nighttime: Movement Speed: 25%)
NOTE: The movement bonus only applies at night. These are great for kiting mobs at night, but are poor when actually fighting them.

Your RSE2 feet may have some useful stats such as INT for elemental enfeebles or STR for WS macros.

Level 63 - Arhat's Sune-ate - [ENM]

Nice for enmity and enfeeble macros.

Level 72 - Dusk Ledelsens - [DD] [HST]
Def: 23 HP: 25 Attack: 4 Haste: 2% (Decreases Movement Speed)
Some prefer to use Dusk/Dusk+1 here for small ATK gains. These feet can also be shared with other jobs.

Level 72 - Fuma Sune-Ate - [HST]
Def: 21 HP: 12 AGI: 3 Haste: 3%
These are very good for a haste build, could be worn full time if you can get at least +10 haste.

Level 72 - Rasetsu Sune-Ate - [EVA] [DD]
Def: 23 Evasion: 5 Attack: 5 (Latent Effect: Counterattack: 1)
These are a good DD option until you have enough haste to pull a haste build off.

Level 72 - Dance Shoes - [EVA]
Def: 13 VIT: -2 CHR: 3 Evasion: 6
Good evasion and very useful for end-game/events/soloing, exp/merit choice would probably need more offensive stats.

Level 72 - Koga Kyahan (RareEx)(AF2) - [INT] [DD]
Def: 15 VIT: 7 Ninjutsu Skill: 10 (Nighttime: DEX: 7)
A good macro piece for nin enfeebles, and can be a good WS piece at night.

Level 72 - Enkidu's Leggings (RareEx) - [HST] [DD]
Def: 23 DEX: 3 AGI: 3 Haste: 2% Ranged Attack: 4 Subtle Blow: 2 Attack: 4
Some nice stats, could possible replace a haste +3 feet for them.

Level 72 - Pahluwan Crackows (RareEx) - [DD]
Def: 13 DEX: 4 Ranged Accuracy: 3 Accuracy: 3 (Set: Enhances "Subtle Blow" Effect)
Minimal stats bonuses, can be avoided.

Level 75 - Denali Gamashes (RareEx) - [DD] [INT]
Def: 15 STR: 3 INT: 3 MND: 3 Accuracy: 3 Accuracy: 5 (Set: Increases Accuracy Magic)
These are a very good WS piece, and also has some nice stats for elemental enfeebles.

Level 75 - Usukane Sune-ate (RareEx) - [ENM] [HST] [DD]
Def: 22 Enmity: 5 Haste: 2% Store TP: 7 Attack: 7 Accuracy: 7 (Set: Enhances Haste Effect)
These are the best feet you can get, lots of enmity/haste/atk/acc.

Level 16 - Mokuto +1 - DPS: 3.17

Dmg: 15 Dly: 190 STR: 1 AGI: 1
You could replace both katanas with these, at a minimum replace your off-hand katana with this one. Obtained from the Faded Promises quest in Bastok.

Level 30 - Nikkariaoe (Rare) - DPS: 4.91
Dmg: 19 Dly: 232 (Spell Interruption Rate: -25%)
Very nice Katana, replace your main hand katana if you have one of these. Obtained from Orctrap NM in Carpenters' Landing.

Level 32 - Kodachi +1 - DPS: 5.41
Dmg: 20 Dly: 222
You could replace both katanas with these, at a minimum replace your main hand katana with this.

Level 38 - Niokiyotsuna (RareEx) - DPS: 5.02
Dmg: 19 Dly: 227 (Double Attack: 1%)
You could replace your off-hand with this one if it's not a Kodachi +1. Obtained from Tres Duendes NM in Phomiuna Aqueducts.

Level 39 - Ohaguro (Rare) - DPS: 6.15
Dmg: 20 Dly: 195 STR: 1 DEX: 1
Very nice Katana, high dps and some good stats. You can replace a Kodachi +1 or Niokiyotsuna with this. It is also an ideal offhand for AF main hand.

Level 40 - Anju (RareEx)(AF) - DPS: 5.83
Dmg: 21 Dly: 216 STR: -1 DEX: 2
This can replace your main hand katana and is ideal with an off hand Ohaguro for DEX+3. Obtained from the 20 In Pirate Years AF quest.

Level 41 - Bokuto +1 - DPS: 6.34
Dmg: 24 Dly: 227 (Additional Effect: Blind)
Very nice katana, good dps, and the additional effect helps the mobs miss. You can replace both katanas with these.

Level 43 - Sakurafubuki +1 - DPS: 6.76
Dmg: 25 Dly: 222
These are very good katana but they are very pricey, and not commonly sold. You could still off-hand a Bokuto +1 if the blind effect appeals.

Level 46 - Yoto +1 - DPS: 6.87
Dmg: 26 Dly: 227 (Additional Effect: Weakens Defence)
Very nice Katanas, you can replace what every you are using with these. The added effect will help a lot against high def mobs like crabs in Kuftal.

Level 48 - Sai - DPS: 6.94
Dmg: 28 Dly: 242 Parrying Skill: 3
Good katana, these aren't much of an upgrade on Yoto +1. If you have 2 x Yoto +1 they would be preferable due to their fantastic weakens defence attribute.

Level 48 - Sai +1 - DPS: 7.44
Dmg: 29 Dly: 234 Parrying Skill: 5
Very good katana, nice dps. Having 2 of these would be recommended. Some will still offhand a Yoto +1 for the defensive down trait.

Level 50 - Buboso - DPS: 7.89
Dmg: 25 Dly: 190 STR: 2 DEX: 2 AGI: 2
Very nice off-hand Katana, great DPS and stats, can be a bit expensive. Can last into the late 50s or early 60s.

Level 50 - Kageboshi - DPS: 7.58
Dmg: 24 Dly: 190 (Additional Effect: Bind)
Very good katana, high dps and base damage. You will pay through the nose for one of these. Popular at capped prommies and BCNM50.

Level 52 - Shinogi - DPS: 7.40
Dmg: 28 Dly: 227 DEX: 3
Not a bad katana, but it can be costly. You could probably get both a Buboso and Sai +1 for the gil which are superior. Obtained from Nightmare Vase NM in Ro'Maeve.

Level 54 - Muketsu +1 - DPS: 7.3
Dmg: 27 Dly: 222 (Additional Effect: HP Drain)
The HP Drain makes this a good katana for soloing, there are better katanas for exp.

Level 55 - Hototogisu (RareEx) - DPS: 7.78
Dmg: 24 Dly: 185 Accuracy: 3 (Latent Effect: Parrying Skill: 5)
Very nice off-hand katana, use it if you have one. The latent effect is active when either a Bard song or Corsair roll is active on you. Obtained from Beryl-footed Molberry NM in Temple of Uggalepih.

Level 57 - Hocho (Rare) - DPS: 7.93
Dmg: 30 Dly: 227 Cooking Skill: 3
The katana has great base damage and dps. You could replace your main hand with it. Obtained from Sozu Sarberry NM in Temple of Uggalepih.

Level 60 - Sairen (Rare) - DPS: 7.82 - [ENM]
Dmg: 31 Dly: 238 STR: 3 (Darksdays: STR: 7 Enmity: 1)
This is an excellent katana with good base damage, dps, and additional stats. You can replace you main hand weapon with this. Very useful for capped L60 events.

Level 61 - Kabutowari - DPS: 7.93
Dmg: 30 Dly: 227
Very good katana with nice base damage and dps. The +1s of these are fantastic. You could possibly replace both your katanas with the NQ, an off-hand Buboso may still be preferred.

Level 61 - Kabutowari +1 - DPS: 8.38
Dmg: 31 Dly: 222
These are as good as it gets at this level. Two of them would be recommended. At least try to replace your main hand katana with one of these.

Level 64 - Kitsutsuki (RareEx) - DPS: 8.43
Dmg: 26 Dly: 185 (Vs. Plantoid: Critical Hit Rate: 5%)
Nice katana with good DPS. Obtained from Celeste-eyed Tozberry NM in Den of Rancor.

Level 66 - Kororito +1 - DPS: 9.25
Dmg: 35 Dly: 227 (Additional Effect: Poison)
Cheap as hell and excellent dps, you can replace anything you are wielding with two of these, and are good till L70.

Level 67 - Imanotsurugi (Rare) - DPS: 9.25 - [ENM]
Dmg: 35 Dly: 227 Enmity: 2
You can replace a Kororito +1 with this, extra Enmity is always made of win. These are much more expensive then Kororito +1s. If you need the enmity then they are worth considering them.

Level 70 - Fudo - DPS: 10.31
Dmg: 39 Dly: 227 Critical Hit Rate: 3%
You can replace what ever you are wielding with these, some keep an off-hand Imanotsurugi for the extra Enmity. The +% crit only applies to the specific katana, the katana in you other hand will not get the +% crit bonus.

Level 71 - Unsho (Rare) - DPS: 9.25
Dmg: 31 Dly: 201 STR: 3 DEX: 3 VIT: -1 Subtle Blow: 1
Stats aren't bad, but then again they aren't that great. You can skip this one.

Level 71 - Kodachi of Trials (RareEx) - DPS: 8.72
Dmg: 33 Dly: 227 (Latent Effect: HP: 20 Fire: 10 Light: 10)
Not exactly the best katana out there, but you'll need it to unlock you Blade: Ku weapon skill (please don't use it in exp though). Obtained from the Buji Soden quest in Norg.

Level 72 - Senjuinrikio (RareEx) - DPS: 6.61 (10.044 after latent broken)
Dmg: 25 Dly: 227 (Latent Effect: DMG: 38 Critical Hit Rate: 6%)
The best main hand katana you can have (excluding relic). Latent only becomes active and permanent after 500 WS points. Keep an off-hand Fudo with it until you get Perdu. The +% crit only applies to the specific katana, the katana in you other hand will not get the +% crit bonus.

Level 72 - Mamush*to +1 - DPS: 10.04
Dmg: 38 Dly: 227 (Additional Effect: Stun)
These are excellent for soloing and low man events where you need stun. Typically off handed with Senjuinrikio in such events. There are better options for exp and merit.

Level 72 - Unji (Rare) - DPS: 9.55
Dmg: 32 Dly: 201 STR: 2 DEX: 4 AGI: -1 Subtle Blow: 1
Used to be a more relevant off-hand katana in the past. Perdu is the preferred off-hand now, and Fudo is next in that list.

Level 73 - Tojaku - DPS: 9.78
Dmg: 37 Dly: 227 Magic Accuracy: 2 Accuracy: 2 (Enchantment: Stone)
Has some nice additional magic accuracy stats and good dps, Fudo is probably still the preferred choice if you are still using AH katanas.

Level 73 - Shiranui (RareEx) - DPS: 9.78
Dmg: 37 Dly: 227 Evasion: 3 (Additional Effect: Light Damage)
The good dps along with the additional evasion makes this a good katana for events when you need to maximise your evasion. Obtained from the Mother Globe NM in Shrine of Ru'Avitau.

Level 73 - Perdu Blade (RareEx) - DPS: 8.53 (10.10 while latent active)
Dmg: 27 Dly: 190 (Latent Effect: DMG: 32)
The best off-hand katana in game. Latent is active while you are below 100TP and gives DMG: 32 Attack+10 Accuracy+5. Simply amazing when matched with a main hand Senjuinrikio. Obtained with 48000 Imperial Standing credits and Second Lieutenant rank.

Level 75 - Kikoku (RareEx)(Relic) - DPS: 12.00
Dmg: 42 Dly: 210 Attack: 20 (Blade: Metsu) (Additional Effect: Paralysis)
Not much can be said about this one. The fully upgraded relic katana is outstanding, but you and your ls which have to put in a huge of work to get you one. Obtained in the Kikoku (Relic Katana) quest.

A good discussion on Katana choice for L50+ is here

--- Hand-to-Hand (Skill Ranking: E) ---

Level 70 - Hades Sainti - [ENM] [EVA] [DD]
Dmg: +18 Dly: +51 Enmity: 7 Subtle Blow: 7 Evasion: 7 Accuracy: 7
This is an end-game weapon. The good evasion and huge enmity bonus make these excellent for keeping hate while kiting. Very popular for nin/drk.

--- Staves (Skill Ranking: N/A) ---

Staves are typically used between 51-55 to increase the potency of the elemental wheel while tanking and doing damage.
Some of the staves make a come back in end-game with their additional stats.

Level 51 - Earth Staff - [INT]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 VIT: 4 VS. Lightning: 15 (Additional Effect: Earth Damage) (Physical Damage Taken: -20%)
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Doton: Ni. The damage reduction on this staff is very good for end-game.

Level 51 - Fire Staff - [INT] [DD]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 STR: 4 Vs. Ice: 15 (Additional Effect: Fire Damage) Ranged Attack: 10 Attack: 10
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Katon: Ni.

Level 51 - Ice Staff - [INT]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 INT: 4 Vs. Wind: 15 (Additional Effect: Ice Damage) (Elemental Magic Skill: 10)
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Kyoton: Ni.

Level 51 - Thunder Staff - [INT]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 DEX: 4 Vs. Water: 15 (Critical Hit Rate: 15%) (Additional Effect: Lightning Damage)
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Raiton: Ni.

Level 51 - Water Staff - [INT]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 MND: 4 Vs. Fire: 15 (Divine Magic Skill: 10) (Additional Effect: Water Damage)
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Suiton: Ni.

Level 51 - Wind Staff - [INT] [EVA]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 366 Evasion: 10 AGI: 4 Vs. Earth: 15 (Additional Effect: Wind Damage)
This staff can be used to give a bonus to the elemental magic Huton: Ni. There is a nice evasion boost which may have situation use in end game.

--- Ranged/Ammo - Stats ---

Many of these items cannot be thrown any longer (be careful of Nokizaru Shuriken which can be thrown)

Level 1 - Happy Egg (RareEx)
Dmg: 1 VIT: 1 HP: 1%
Your choices are limited in the early levels, extra HP is nice. Only available in Egg Hunt events.

Level 1 - Orphic Egg (RareEx) - [DD] [EVA]
Dmg: 1 Singing Skill: 1 (Latent Effect: Evasion: 1 Attack: 1 Accuracy: 1)
The Latent Effect's are activated when a brd song or cor roll is active on you.

Level 15 - Rogetsurin (RareEx)
Dmg: 9 Dly: 286 AGI: 1
Nice agility bonus on these, the NM are camped a lot more for DNC and BLU.

Level 25 - Morion Tathlum - [INT]
Dmg: 12 Dly: 168 MP: 3 INT: 1
You'll want one of these for the INT bonus, will help your elemental enfeebles.

Level 30 - RSE Sachets - [DD]
You may get some useful stats for your specific race.

Level 50 - Peiste Dart - [DD]
Dmg: 15 STR: 1 AGI: 1
Nice DD piece, especially good if your RSE sachet doesn't have DD stats. May be preferred to Optical Needle and much more affordable too.

Level 50 - Optical Needle - [DD]
Dmg: 21 Accuracy: 1
Extra accuracy is always good. Realistically you'll still want Morion, by the time accuracy is useful the Bailathorn is available and for a fraction of the cost.

Level 56 - Bailathorn - [DD]
Dmg: 50 Ranged Accuracy: 3 Accuracy: 3 (Additional Effect: Bind)
Additional accuracy, and ranged accuracy. This is the best available use of this slot at this level.

Level 58 - Tiphia Sting - [DD]
Dmg: 37 HP: -25 Evasion: -4 Attack: 2 Accuracy: 2
Has less accuracy, negative evasion, but more attack then Bailathorn. It costs a lot more too. Bailathorn seems better.

Level 60 - Bibiki Seashell (RareEx)
Dmg: 1 VIT: 4 Vs. Water: 3 (Hidden Effect: Aquarian Killer)
The aquarian killer additional effect can be useful against certain mobs. I think this is still throwable and the quest is not repeatable. I'm not going to check! lol.

Level 63 - Bomb Core - [DD]
Dmg: 74 Vs. Fire: -6 Attack: 12
Huge bonus to attack, this one is highly recommended for merit/exp pts and a number of other DD jobs. You could replace Bailathorn now if your accuracy is good.

Level 66 - Phantom Tathlum - [INT]
Dmg: 24 MP: 10 INT: 2 (Additional Effect: MP Drain)
An upgrade to Morion for the INT, again will help your elemental enfeebles. MP Drain only works if you are crazy enough to throw it, remove your ranged macro.

Level 70 - Fire Bomblet - [DD]
Dmg: 74 Resist vs. Fire: -6 Accuracy: 6 Attack: 6 (Additional Effect: Fire Damage)
If you are struggling for accuracy this one is highly recommended. Can be a bit pricey.

Level 70 - Ungur Boomerang (RareEx) - [EVA]
Dmg: 30 Dly: 220 HP: 8 MP: 8 Vs. Wind: 8 Evasion: 8
Fantastic evasion on this, every nin should get one. The NM isn't that difficult for a pt of 3-4. Good for end-game, soloing, and events.

Level 70 - Fenrir's Stone (RareEx) - [EVA]
Dmg: 30 (Nighttime: Evasion: 10) (Daytime: HP: 30)
Very nice evasion bonus at night, used in the same situations as Ungur. You must beat Fenrir prime to be able to choose this.

Level 70 - Reacton Arm - [DD]
Attack: 10 (Enhances "Mijin Gakure" effect)
Less attack bonus then Bomb core, could swap it in if you are going to 2 hour for that added epeen.

Level 73 - Nokizaru Shuriken - [DD] [ENM]
Dmg: 85 Dly: 192 Ranged Accuracy: 18 Enmity: 2
This one is very good for Enmity swaps. Remove your ranged macro.

Level 75 - Aureole - [INT]
Dmg: 28 Dly: 192 Magic Accuracy: 8
Like almost all AV drops the stats are to die for, this one would pwn big time with elemental ninjustu.

Level 75 - Lamian Kaman
Dmg: 19 Dly: 270 MP: 10 (Magic Defense Bonus: 1)
The magic defense can be very useful at end-game. This also has a very low delay for pulling mobs. The +1 is the one to have but costs over 1m.

A good discussion on ranged/ammo options can be found here

--- Ranged/Ammo - Throwing (Skill Ranking: A-) ---

Most of these are more likely to be used to pull a mob in exp, and then swap back to your stats based item from the previous section.

Level 14 - Hawkeye
Dmg: 9 Dly: 168
Cheap throwing weapon useful for pulling mobs at this level

Level 15 - Rogetsurin (RareEx)
Dmg: 9 Dly: 286 AGI: 1
Nice agility bonus on these, the NM are camped a lot more for DNC and BLU.

Level 18 - Shuriken
Dmg: 29 Dly: 192
An upgrade to the Hawkeye, better damage and lower delay.

Level 20 - Platoon Disc
Dmg: 11 Dly: 294
First of the boomerang type weapons, this can be a cheaper method to level throwing skill up.

Level 24 - Wingedge
Dmg: 15 Dly: 294
An upgrade to your Platoon Disc.

Level 28 - Juji Shuriken
Dmg: 41 Dly: 192
Very low delay throwing item, great for pulling mobs.

Level 28 - Chakram
Dmg: 16 Dly: 294
An upgrade to the Wingedge

Level 48 - Manji Shuriken
Dmg: 63 Dly: 192
This is a significant upgrade in damage while keeping the low delay. These can be pricey (50k+ for a stack)

Level 56 - Bailathorn - [DD]
Dmg: 50 Dly: 300 Ranged Accuracy: 3 Accuracy: 3 (Additional Effect: Bind)
Additional accuracy, and ranged accuracy. This is the best available use of this slot at this level.

Level 60 - Fuma Shuriken
Dmg: 72 Dly: 192
A small upgrade on Manji SHurikens, these are rarely crafted, can cost 200k a stack!!! I can't see the justification for these.

Level 75 - Aureole - [INT]
Dmg: 28 Dly: 192 Magic Accuracy: 8
Like almost all AV drops the stats are to die for, this one would pwn big time with elemental ninjustu.

Damn copy and paste, good shout.
Keep the comments coming, I'm sure there will be a lot of changes over the next few weeks.

There are many innaccuracies. Even simple ones like this are very misleading.

Level 71 - Hissho Hachimaki
This is a new piece, stats look good, nice attack and accuracy bonus. Could possibly replace O.hat.

Obviously this doesnt have 10 eva and will never replace ohat for evasion purposes, nor will it replace shura or ohat for ws. It is essentially a pretty good ws piece for those without shura or ohat.

I could probably count 50 inaccuraices, if not more. But this could be a great guide in time.

I haven't put up the weapons yet!!!!
This could be more work then I bargained for.

Look the previous guide out dated, and doesn't really go into enough detail on how to work equipment choices into your build.

I'll change any inaccuracies in this post to get it right.
I've changed the title to include Work in Progress so people know it's far from being a complete guide.

I would add Seiryu's Kote in there. I personally wouldn't use any of the Gigas line bracelets over O Kotes for WS (although Alky's are arguable). Maybe that's just me though. I also don't use Shura over Byakko's for Jin. But maybe other Nins do it differently. I think it's looking pretty decent and i applaud your effort. It's obviously designed to help the community out so even if a couple of comments might be questionable, it's clear you're taking criticisms and using them to improve the guide. Rate up.

"Level 74 - Ninja Hatsuburi +1 (AF+1) (RareEx)
This is a macro piece for nin enfeebles."

With Eva + 8 Agi + 8 & Chr + 8. This is the best eva head tank piece for NIN & some nice CHR for DNC cures.

"Level 74 - Ancient Torque
Very nice accuracy, would replace anything but Peacock and Hope Torque in exp/merit."

What? NIN doesn’t need ranged acc in merit. This is the better than PCC for DD.

Where’s my Fenrir Earring/ Vampire Earring combo? :-(

"Level 75 - Hachiryu Haramaki (RareEx)
Very nice piece, and the natural replacement for Shura Togi on mnk. You would still need a WS piece to go with this."

Not true. You can debate whether this is as good as some WS body pieces out there but it can do just fine on it’s own.

"Level 60 - Ninja Tekko (AF)(RareEx)
Possibly a macro piece for ranged. Not really of much else use."

You need to add in something about NIN Tekko+1 since it’s like an entirely different hand equip.

"Level 72 - Koga Kyahan (RareEx)(AF2)
A good macro piece for nin enfeebles."

Probably should comment on the Dex 7 at night too.

Other than that, it’s a nice comprehensive list. :)

First, there's that Chach-Nez at level one and second I don't think much enmity is actually gained by simply adding in Enmity for Macro.

I agree with this too, not all nin have a L34 attack hands thus gigas would be good for them. I've cleaned up the explanation to include this info.

I ran this past a few nin and they weren't sure either. Most of them were swapping in Shura.

I was kinda hoping people will be positive and feed their experiences into this guide. There is a lot of this kind of thinking that rarely comes up in the forum.

Hell even the inaccuracies could help get more of peoples experience out in the open.

Not really, with only 3% haste you're not going to be cutting down much of your actual swing timers to the point where it adds little to no actual DoT.

I haven't used the set yet, but it feels kind of wrong to neglect the physical damage taken -% of some of the Arhat gear. I'm not saying it should strictly be used over other gear, but it has its uses.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think simply macroing in enmity gear really works as well as you make it sound. Not that it's realistic to wear some of the enmity gear over better DD pieces, but wouldn't it have a greater effect if worn throughout the fight so that the added enmity tacks on to every action? I remember reading something about it in that long CE, VE, etc page that detailed enmity gain.

Getting feedback is good though. This should shape up to be a nice guide in the end.

Edit: Whoops. I guess Overburn got to the enmity thing before I got here.

Great work here though, I would like to drop a couple of suggestions.

I think cassie earring is worth to mention, is very nice for a max hp build, quite handy in end game.

Brutal earring, I think is full time (TP and WS) maybe you can just remove "TP" from the sentence to make it fit.

Quote:
Bomb Queen Ring (RareEx)
Endgame tanking piece, could possibly be useful against mobs with fire based WS such as Erucas.

Bomb Queen Ring have negative fire resistance not positive.

Keep the good work, I will check after the next update to help with this as much as possible.

I hope it helps.

Ken.

Yeah, because your level 39 parties are going to be killing the mobs so fast a little haste gear can't possibly shave any time off your attack rounds...

Just a few quick comments:

Hope Torque isn't useful for serious meriting. Accuracy is at too much of a premium for NIN.

Breeze Gorget being the best WS neck piece is actually not established. I use it for slightly higher max Jins, but I don't think the average is any better than with Peacock Charm or Hope Torque, which means Ancient Torque is quite probably the best thing going.

As said above, Fenrir's/Vampire is the best non-Brutal WS earring, which is really the only use for either.

I'm not that crazy about the Usukane set for NIN, but I seem to be the only one.

Should mention a few choice HQs, Haubergeon and Cerb. Mantle in particular, which easily outclass gear that is superior to the NQs.

Bandomusha Kote really are WS-only because there is essentially no real-world DD situation where they're going to win out over Dusk.

Seiryu's Kote's day in the sun is past. You're going to want haste or DMG reduction in this slot any time you aren't evasion tanking.

Defending Ring is situational in that you wouldn't wear it for DDing, but in literally any actual tanking situation it's the best ring available.

As above, haste gear gets better as you stack it, but in a slot like foot where there just aren't any useful alternatives you should pretty much live by haste.

I saw a link just yesterday on KI with testing that looked to me like the gorgets were now established as best. If the page ever loads up I'll link to it.

While the guide is lacking in some respects, it's good that someone has actually tried to make a new one. I'll try and add some more positive contributions in later posts, with quotes and stuff.

Good defence, int bonus, and evasion. This one is recommended.

I think it's worth pointing out why int can matter for ninja. I know nukes and enfeebs won't be used much at these low levels, but it's still worth pointing out that int has an effect on them, rather than it just being blindly accepted.

Quote:
Level 24 - Emperor Hairpin / Empress Hairpin (RareEx)
Either of these are the best evasion pieces until L65. I'd strongly recommend picking up one.

Isn't this slightly better than Wivre mask for eva, due to the agi on it?

Quote:
Level 43 - Walkure Mask
You need to decide on whether to stay with evasion gear or move to more DD gear. I'd recommend this piece over evasion but it depends on your style.

I still found evasion to be effective at this level, so I stuck with emp. pin. You're also in the prime level for elemental nukes, so focusing on melee DD gear isn't really the best bet.

Quote:
Level 63 - Arhat's Jinpachi
Another enmity piece for Provoke macro, the HQ is the one to go for.

Like someone else mentioned, the biggest point about this is for damage reduction sets at endgame.

Quote:
Level 60 - Chivalrous Chain
Another great DD piece, still worth having for WS macro if you are using Peacock or Spectacles.

I would stick with PCC for WS, ninja isn't the most accurate job and our main WS - jin - is multi-hit.

Harmonia's Torque is also worth mentioning for an enmity/tanking build at end-game.

For earrings, I would add Loq. Earring as an end-game option, or just for macroing in for utsu. Fast cats is nice.

Mithra RSE body has +str, good for WS macros at low levels.

Again, I'd mention the use of damage reduction sets when mentioning Arhat's Gi. The +1 is something every serious ninja should have imo.

War Shinobi Gi is useful for it's regen effect when idling between mobs or running around. Also good for if you care about r.acc (throwing wind debuffs on sky gods). I think the P-body would be slightly better though, assuming skill is over 200. On which note, it's worth pointing out that the +crits effect on that armor is said not to work.

And my pt just started so I'll have to leave it at that for now.

edit - rated people up. It's not perfect, but at least someone tried to make a new guide. It's a big task for just one person; hopefully we, as a forum, can be positive about it rather than just dismiss things because of inevitablle flaws.

Technically, but a Wivre Mask has a good amount of defense (whereas the hairpin has none), and no -HP. 1.5 EVA isn't really going to make a difference, and you're most likely going to get hit occasionally...so it's a worthwhile swap I'd say, but not one that's completely a given either.

It's primarily for Elemental Ninjitsu I'd say (what I use it for anyway). I think "situational" does apply to utilizing the +Parry, but that'd be -really- situational =P

Neck section is missing Harmonia's Torque as an enmity swap.

Personally, I say that it's not usually as effective until 75/merited, but to say it's not great isn't accurate. It's excellent in a haste/DW oriented build when you have enough accuracy already. The +1 is even better since you get 5 DEX for a little extra ACC.

Not necessarily that bad a drop rate. While it's not a bad piece, it's also frequently overrated too.

Not really. Situationally can be good, but it really doesn't parse much different than a NQ Hauby most of the time.

May want to word it so that it's clearer that the Haste is only active at night as well. The only full-time thing that these do is save on tools.

Missing Hanzo Tekko offhand, decent Solo/Eva build gear if you lack Seiryu's.

Quote:
Level 72 - Triumph Ring
A very expensive WS macro ring, most of us use Ruby instead.
Level 74 - Flame Ring
Again a very expensice WS macro ring, well worth it if you have one or the gil.

It's not a given that STR rings or whatnot get swapped in for WS. Depends on what else is in your WS build. As Jin is multi-hit, and really only sees big jumps with DA or crits, it may be better to leave Sniper's in.
In some situations, for some races, a DEX ring may work well too.

If you're going to mention INT rings for enfeebles, why not toss in Balrahn's or Omega ring for MAcc?

Resentment cape should be mentioned.

AF legs aren't mentioned. Should at least be for EVA at night.

Quote:
Level 71 - Koga Hakama (RareEx)(AF2)
Nice evasion at night, good for soloing/events etc. you should be looking for a most offensive leg to keep hate in exp/merits.

The DW bonus also makes them a nice placeholder until Haidate. Good for HP build. Actually slightly faster swing speed than Haidate without Haste/March.

[quote]Level 75 - Byakko's Haidate (RareEx)
The best haste legs out there, if you have these you can definitly pull a haste build off. [/quote]

Also good ACC, and good for Jin. Very nearly full-time legs for NIN.

[quote]Level 72 - Dusk Ledelsens
Not as good for nin, sam, mnk, as there are cheaper options with more haste. [/quote]

Some prefer to use Dusk/Dusk+1 here for small ATT gains in addition to sharing with other jobs.

[quote]Level 72 - Koga Kyahan (RareEx)(AF2)
A good macro piece for nin enfeebles. [/quote]

As mentioned, can be a good WS piece at night.

I need to think of a way of adding peoples names next to their suggestions. People deserve credit when they contribute. I'll think about the best way of doing this.

This is a very interesting point, I would have thought that advice like this belongs more in a "Ninja 101" type guide over an equipment guide, but I think I could use the intro or misc post to add useful information like that.

I don't want to go too heavily into end-game advice, they would be better off as separate guides/posts which I'd link to like I've done with the excellent nin/drk one. If I was to cover all end-game possibilities it would turn this into an unmanageable monster.

Some of the nin in my ls have multiple gear sets for specific mobs in end game.

Other equipment guides color code stuff. Either by "this is 1337 gear you aren't expect to have," "this should be expected," and "don't use this crap." or "evasion build," "DD build," "+enm build," and "mdef build."

Anyway, you're missing the HQs of some stuff. Esp. the HQs of Dusk feet are much more useful than the NQs, and basically go from 'don't bother' to 'best you non-rare/ex.'

I also find it rather painful that you recomend Alki's for weaponskills and only mention the AF+1 hands as 'a good WS piece.'

There's no need to go into massive detail I think, but something basic would probably be a good idea (like, why you use atk over str for TP gain).

Sorry I'm not exactly sure what point you are trying to make. Do you think there should be more or less of this? I was thinking of cutting out most of the "don't bother" type comments as so much of nin gear is situational. One piece might be great for exp but rubbish for end-game and visa versa.

tordall wrote:

This is where the fun starts so many of these choices could be seen in a +ive or -ive light. As mentioned earlier the decision about WS hands was whether STR beats the heavy attack pieces. i.e. Alky vs O.kotes on a multihit WS. As AF+1 has less STR it would seem that o.kotes would be a more natural choice.

Basics on stats

At low levels, ninja can be a hard job to gear. Your hate-keeping tools are minimal, your spells take a long time to cast and have low accuracy/attack, and you only have utsu: ichi. Essentially, you'll be reliant upon your co-tank - if you don't have one, there's pretty much nothing you can do to make ninja pre-ni a success. As such, I'll focus more on 37+, where solo tanking and DD roles become more viable, thanks first to Utsu Ni, then the elemental wheel, and eventually due to access to strong DD and haste gear.

When gearing for melee DD, you have a few different stats to balance. The main ones will be attack and accuracy - accuracy, obviously, to hit more often, and attack for more damage. And remember! Ninja isn't like warrior or other jobs which can tear monsters apart with a huge weapon skill. Our DD potential comes from a steady stream of hits, with weapon skills providing small spikes.

Of course, haste is pointless for DDing if it only means you miss the mob faster, but it also has an effect on reducing your spell re-cast timers as well as the delay between melee attacks.

Also, note that evasion and evasion skill are slightly different.

Enmity gains increasing importance at mid-high levels (after the wheeel stops being so effective), and then again for end-game. In exp, it's worth using if you don't sacrifice too much in terms of DD stats - for example, I'd say using Eris earrings over Spike earrings makes sense, but I prefered haubergeon over Arhat's Gi. The mid-high levels in exp can be very hard on ninja. Popular exp targets have low defence, and DDs gain their strongest weapon skills and such - e.g rampage. It can be hard to compete on pure DD terms, so making using of enmity will help.

[----------]

That any help? It ended up being longer than I anticipated.

The - DEX on the Gigas line of hand gear has nothing to do with Jin stat mods and everything to do with loss of ACC. As mentioned, don't use them for multi-hit WS. Can use on Blade: Ten, but not Jin. They are popular among DDs with single hit WS (Great Katana).

I think Diabolo's Earring and Hollow Earring are worth adding. Hollow is actually a better DD earring than Ethereal. If you have suppa, ACC and DEX are great stats for a WS swap, if you don't have Suppa they can be worn full time.

Also, be cautious about loading up on STR for WS. Due to the relatively low damage on katanas, too much STR isn't going to be doing much for you. STR affects damage via fSTR, which is based on your STR minus the enemy's VIT.

fSTR caps at Weapon Rank + 8.

Weapon Rank = Damage/9

So for 37 or 38 damage Katana:

37/9 or 38/9 ---> Weapon rank = 4 (always rounded down)

Then fSTR max = 8 + 4 = 12

fSTR = (your STR - emeny VIT + 4)/4

So for colbri, VIT = 67

so fSTR max: 12 = (STR-67+4)/4

STR = 111

So if your STR is greater than 111 the only thing STR is doing for you is adding a little Attack.

Of course harder mobs have higher VIT and thus higher fSTR caps, but keep in mind at some point STR stops being super effective at increasing damage (and no the fact that Jin has a WS mod of 30% STR is not a good reason to pack it on).

That is perfect. I'll replace the first post with this (it was waffle anyway)

I'll just reformat it a bit so I can use it when I add some colour to the different types of armour.

What you say is true of DEX as it only adds acc when it caps. Is there a chart I can see that shows every ToAU merit mobs agi & vit so I can maximize my STR & DEX in every scenario?

Glad it was of some use :) but you missed the third "o" out in my name! It's the sound, not the word, geddit?

Also, the post on weapon rank is helpful. Thank you!

edit - and regarding Jin, the -dex doesn't just hurt accuracy, but it's chance to crit too. Just like Rampage and Raging Rush for warrior, big jins result first from landing all hits, and then from having those hits land as crits. -dex hurts on both accounts.

I've added a comment from Isiolia in the haste section. It seems relevant.

Fixed. lol

I've combined another large batch of comments and suggestions into the armour section. I apologise if I've missed a few, staring at all the HTML code for links along with descriptions etc. is straining the hell out of my eyes.

W/ regaurd to the Str and Dex thing for :jin.

Once Dex gets past a certain point it really starts to drive up the crit hit rate, which is really where you get boosts in blade:jin damage from.

Anyway, from just stats, even counting the fSTR thing, alkies are weaker than nin tekko+1 for blade:jin.

Under ideal circmstances (Str isn't capping out, Dex isn't in the crit hit range):

Koga tekko (+12 str) : 6.6
Nin Tekko+1 (+6 str +6 dex) : 5.1
Alkies (+11 str -6 dex) : 4.25

If you've got enough +str gear to start capping out the fStr contribution, or if your dex is high enough so your crit hit rate is increasing with your dex, they just get worse.

If the FStr thing is capped out w/o the hand slot:

Kogga Tekko: 3.6
Nin Tekko+1: 3.6
Alkies: 1.5
Hume RSE hands (level 27 +3 str +3 dex): 1.8

I think it's generally accepted that Okotes are better than level 27 hume RSE gloves. And if you've got a good +str weaponskill gear, the hume RSE hands do more for blade:jin than Alkies. So, please take Alkies off the list.

Gloves for Ninja weaponskills should really only mention stuff that's better than Okotes, or dramatically cheaper than Okotes.

Yup that makes sense to me, I'll remove them now.
If there is a good counter argument I can always add them back later.

I definitely won't have time today to do this, but might tommorow or sunday.

Anyway, I think it would be a good idea to do make 'ideal' builds for various things at 75, and maybe for each interesting level cap. Hopefully the descriptions of these builds can include at least the first couple of choices for each slot, if there are that many choices. The main reason to do this, is this is mostly a list of gear that ninja might find useful rather than a real guide (kinda like 88 lines about 44 women), it would provide guidance as to what stats are important in different situations.

E.g. gear for 20,30,40,50,60, 63 (or whenever arhat's gear is usable), and then a couple different ones for 75. To my knowledge the useful builds at 75 are: +enmity for kiting, +enmity for standing tanking, haste & acc for TP build, haste & atk for TP build, stat-based weaponskill, atk-based weaponskill, dex-whore (most often seen for relic owners), and max hp build.

Might have to include lots of (at night) stuff in those ;-).

I've seen other job forums do something like what you've suggested and those guides can really help a lot. lolgaxe's one for war, and NCCoda's one for pld spring to mind straight away.

If it would make sense to combine this guide with the one you're thinking about then, I'll help out as much as I can. If the end result is something that benefits new and old nin alike then I'm game.

I've started to adjust the comments on the equipment to indicate when to use them, what to replace etc. It's a slow process but it makes the guide a bit more useful. I'll hopefully get on to colour coding the equipment tonight and finish off the weapons too.

Looks like another weekend of no FFXI for me again. lol.

Just the weaponskill modifiers.

30% str, 30% dex.

Rough guess at 25% for fSTR until it caps out (which is a little generous).

Once fSTR caps out, strength looses that extra 25%. Which means if you have a lot of STR already in your WS build, adding more may or many not help you that much (depending on what you're fighting). For most merit mobs, I think fSTR caps out somewhere around 110-120. Which means that koga tekko (at night) are better than dusk gloves+1 for TP build b/c they add about 3fSTR in addition to the atk and haste (which are the same, 6 atk and 4 haste).

There's also a range of DEX totals (again depending on what you're fighting) where your crit rate is heavily modified by your dex. However if you're under or over it, adding (or removing) dex won't help your crit rate, so dex helps less than it might. The rule of thumb I use for the dex/crit thing is that if your dex is over 110, you should add more dex b/c it helps crit rate, if you're over 130, you're probably already capped out.

I think most relatively pimped out ninjas end up with 100-120 str and 90-110 dex in their WS builds before they get the ability to start tweaking one stat vs. the other.

Similiarly, there are points of diminishing returns for pretty much all the other stats/derived stats (but haste, which just has a hard cap). E.g. the pDEF part of the damage calculation caps out at some point, so adding more atk past that won't help. Hit rate caps out around 94%, so adding more accuracy if you're at that point doesn't help.

Also remember these are level corrected at lvl 75. After that correction they are closer to 25% STR 25% DEX. This is why I personally don't think focusing on stat mods is as important as ACC, Crit, ATTK, fSTR for Jin.

Kittyn, I wish there was a chart of mob stats for ToAU merit areas, but I am only aware of colbri stats.

And to be honest, to hit that cap is pretty tough for a NIN (if they are focusing on the right stats).

Last night after posting I swapped on my Jin build and I was only at 98 STR, still a ways from the colbri cap of 111 and Mamool will be higher for sure.

Understanding how the different stats in different combinations affect your performance is important.

Anyway, I appreciate the effort of the OP and those contributing. A decent equipment guide is incredibly valuable.

A very good haste belt, more useful for a haste build at 75. Could be used to lower Utesumi recast times until then.

Some of the best haste you can get, still might only be useful from L75, again could lower recast time.

These are very good for a haste build, could be worn full time if you can get at least +10 haste.

where the hell is bsphil to prove once again that <10% haste can still increase your DoT better than some alternatives (especially for nin)?

other than the misinterpretation of haste, very good guide. It should replace others in the stickies.

I can see why you could justify haste in the feet slot earlier on as your choices are limited.

I would need much more convincing to give up 10 accuracy in the waist slot in those levels where acc is of critical importance especially against ToAU mobs with high evasion.

They also have a nasty tendency of wiping out your food roughly every too fights and you can't always guarantee having a brd/cor in your pt it makes it even harder. I could see you needing an optimal backline support to pull it off.

I'd be fascinated if there is data that proves otherwise and whether it's for a generic build or when you've a pt with guaranteed haste or accuracy from a mage and/or brd.

On Wiki says VIT & AGI are 67 for greater colibris. Does that mean STR & DEX both cap at 117 for them? I'm on the brink for both stats so need to make absolutely sure about the cap since I don't want to be wasting equip slots for a bunch of acc or attack. haha

personally at the lower range levels i found tiger stole to be better than spike necklace so could be worth adding. attack does far more for you than str at those levels. Also the enchanted mighty rings and vision rings at level 14. str+1 & attk+5 is better than str+2 easily.

noritsune kotes can be a really nice ws piece pre merits. one of the first things you should be doing with jins is focussing on accuracy to improve consistency and if your lacking ktn merits these can make a huge difference.

horomusha vs ochiodus is kinda meh. thats one subject that ppl will never agree on.

koga chain imo is probably one of the best tp pieces you could have. more so if your lacking in the haste department. ninja chain doesnt really shine so much without a great chunk of haste to work with it.

final mention maybe RSE feet at 62. although not great for all rases the humes marine boots with str+3 dex+3 are a very nice option for ws.

The weapons, ranged, ammo section is up.
Again any comments, mistakes, omissions, on these then let me know and I'll get working on them.

I haven't forgotten colour coding these, want to try to catch the bulk of the suggestions and errors on the actual list of gear, weapons etc. before moving on to "Pimp my Guide".

I think the weapons section is very misleading when it comes to the availability of the weapons (For example, you list the Hocho without mentioning how much it may cost/its rarity and you do the same with other rare katanas) and, though a personal pet peeve of mine, I don't think you should constantly say "if you have one of these" since it is a guide and somewhat of a recommended list. Mentioning that certain low-level katanas, like the Gassan and Fukuro, can be quested would be great as well.

I really think you should list all of the stat boosts in addition to the damage and delay. It's nice to be able to mouseover the weapon name, but in the previous guide it was listed by the name and made comparing katanas (and other gear) easier. Mentioning the importance of which katana to use main-hand and off hand would be nice to see at the beginning of the weapon's guide as well or somewhere else in the FAQ (If this is already in there then I apologize).

Color-coding would be a big plus at this stage, but you said that you'll be getting to that soon.

Uhm.. what else.. I'd take the Hikazu Hara-ate out of the guide. It is a nice piece, but it also comes from Salvage and wouldn't be accessible to people who don't have other level 75 jobs.

There's probably more I can say, but it's kind of late. Nice start though!

This isn't something that is easy to plan for. The economics and drop rate in the game change so frequently that it wouldn't be feasible to do it for all items in the guide.

KidHendrix wrote:

I've those comments removed, I had planned on doing it anyway.
My first cuts of stuff I right tend to have a lot of waffle in them.

KidHendrix wrote:

I've done this for the katanas, will get around to the rest. I've only covered NM and normal quests. Putting in BCNM, KSNM, ENM, Gods etc. wold be far too much information.

This is one of those some like it, some hate it type points. I personally prefer less on armour/weapon stats, and more on recommending when and why to use it. Putting too much information in can make it look cluttered and less easy to read. If there is a way I can do this after finishing the colour coding then I'll put them back in.

KidHendrix wrote:

This is a really good suggestion, I've added some information about that in the first post. It's a little light in detail, and I'll need to add a bit more information before I'm completely happy with it.

To be honest most guides will have a ton of gear listed that most people will never achieve. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be in the list, even people with the best of gear need to refer to guides once in a while.

Small point in your wording.
You make out Spectacles to be far better than Chiv Chain, however you do not make this same comparison with Life Belt and potent belt.

The difference between Chiv and Specs is 3Str for 2Acc, the same as between potent and life belts.

If you're going to advocate Specs over Chiv, you should also state Life > Potent.
If you believe Potent is better than Life Belt, then why do you consider Specs better than Chiv?
See what I'm saying?

Well spotted, I have fixed the description of Potent to indicate that it's a "slightly" weaker choice then Life.
