I want to get this and do some testing but none at AH, and I won't be doing that voidwatch for a week or two.

Anyone picked it up and done any testing on it?

Calcitrant Stole test

Mnk/thf
no gear swaps
Footwork active
Feet: Hermes Sandals
Skill: 391 with Tantra hands on

Base damage: 43+3 = 46
Footwork bonus: 46+18 = 64
fStr: 10

Total nominal base damage: 74

Max crit at nominal base: 233
Max crit with +5 dmg: 248
Max crit with +10 dmg: 264

Max observed crit (20 samples): 247
Higher frequency results starting at 237 (79*3)

Assessment: Calcitrant stole is +5 kick damage.

As such, it is strictly better than Faith Torque (assuming you have Tantra +2 hands) as long as accuracy remains capped (if accuracy is not capped, Agasaya is the better option). It is not as good as Rancor Collar, but is generally a better choice when the +damage taken is a concern.

I already overpaid for the testing (was reaaaaally hoping for +10 damage), but I'd say it'd probably be worth in the 200k-300k range (compared to 600k for Rancor), possibly less depending on drop rate.

thanks, and it's good to hear. looks like I will have to work on getting this. Now that the new gear isn't from abyssea, and it isn't easy and damage matters again. Footwork is going to be much stronger again. Another +5 dmg although not a huge boost is respectable. That along with the nice attack boost from footwork, high tp gain given OA2-4 weapon, and low tp given should be very nice.

As a side note on Footwork, due to some messing around I was doing in the spreadsheet I found that if you have the option for Smite, using Vere or Rev+2s with Footwork is significantly better than OA2-4 with some other weaponskill (in or out of Abyssea).

Also, Calcitrant matches or beats Rancor if for some reason you're using Footwork, even with only +5 dmg.

I hear that with capped skill/merits at 95, the combo of Tantra+2 hands, Faith Torque, and Bruiser's Earring = enough H2H skill to break into a new H2H damage tier. If that's the case (haven't confirmed for myself, still getting around to capping MNK)... does the extra point of DMG from using Faith beat Calcitrant for those MNKs who have snagged the new earring?

Calcitrant+Aesir just barely beats Faith+Bruiser, assuming acc is capped. If acc is uncapped, Faith+Bruiser basically ties with Agasaya+Bruiser, and Calcitrant is notably behind (since it has no acc on it). Here, lemme just copy the charts I made:

Set 1: Abyssea (capped acc)

            Ear
Neck None Tantra Bruiser Aesir Moonshade
None 431.206 432.302 432.166 433.367 439.183
Agasaya 433.607 434.71 434.568 435.769 441.569
Calcitrant 435.223 436.364 435.946 437.153 443.179
Faith 433.367 434.469 436.981 435.528 441.33
Rancor 442.207 443.332 443.189 444.417 450.138

Set 2: Outside, 90% hit rate without neck/ear

            Ear
Neck None Tantra Bruiser Aesir Moonshade
None 160.615 161.125 162.585 161.769 163.66
Agasaya 168.223 168.755 170.208 169.205 171.102
Calcitrant 162.792 163.325 164.933 164.072 165.803
Faith 166.391 166.756 170.256 167.565 169.312
Rancor 168.987 169.482 170.954 170.136 172.014
Ziel 168.239 168.77 168.694 169.343 171.251

Big caveat that while Rancor may be the best from a purely damage-focused perspective, it has a really nasty damage taken +10% (PDT and MDT) with capped Tonberry hate. If you're tanking, that's a pretty significant consideration. If you aren't tanking or if you're totally comfortable with your healers' ability to cure-bomb you, great. If not, might want to use a different neck and sacrifice a little DD power in the interest of survivability.

Similarly, Agasaya's Subtle Blow+5 doesn't show up in the DD numbers but has some value - particularly if you're fighting something with especially nasty TP moves that you really want to limit.

Something to consider in close calls... say, Kine's set 2 numbers if you don't have access to Moonshade... Rancor/Bruiser, Agasaya/Bruiser, and Faith/Bruiser are all quite close as the top pairs for damage. So in that near toss-up, I'd might pick Agasaya as my neck option since it comes with the side effects of Subtle Blow and no DT+.

Excellent data

Thanks a bunch for your numbers - can I ask you one favor?

I assume your Moonshade numbers are for the Atk+4/Regain version. Can you do a second Moonshade colum for the Acc+4/Regain version? Obviously would give worse numbers compared to the Atk version in Abyssea, but better numbers in uncapped Acc situations like your Set 2.
