Man those gloves just might make heca better than af3+2.
I've been trying to weigh the pros and cons myself. Raiders armlets +2 has a cumulative 20 attack/16 accuracy, 8 str/8 dex (mods) and a 15% dexterity bonus on the first hit of sneak attack weaponskill. My augmented hecatomb has a cumulative 10.5 accuracy, 7 attack, 8 str/5 dex (mods) and a 3% bonus to critical hit damage. Canceling out associativity you're left with
Raider's Armlets +2
3 dex, 13 attack, 5.5 accuracy
3% critical hit attack bonus
Critical hit attack is not at all the same as normal attack, and when you're dealing with the large base damage on the first hit of a stacked weaponskill or the ending strikes of evisceration and your attack is already high a 3% bonus may be better. Then there's also the consideration that critical hits raise pDIF by 1.0 and thus normal attack is less important (not unimportant however). The 15% dex bonus on sneak attack is added after fTP bonuses so it's just 15% of your dex, which favors heca better outside abyssea than inside, however trick attack weaponskills is a much closer comparison. Outside abyssea my crit hit rate is normal so af3 +2 easily win when evisc doesn't crit almost every hit, but inside I don't know.
These paws particularly interest me in a rudra's storm build because of the massive first hit critical. Rudra's/Mercy stroke considerations would weight towards heca moreso than evisceration.
With that said, I plan to tinker with them a bit more and see if I can get something different. If the 5 accuracy had been... say.... 5 attack or I had gotten 5 dagger skill instead of 3 then the tables would change around. I can possibly see heca mittens +1 outperforming raiders +2 in a rudras/mercy build at the very least, but you would need a darn good augment. The augs I have above are all HQ3 so it could take a significant hit to the pocketbook before you got THE augmentation. I'm sure my heca subligar could have had 2 stronger secondary weaponskill augmentations as well other than "pet stats" and subtle blow, but yeah....... this definitely shows the potential a lucky augment can provide.
My HQ hecatomb set is my most treasured possession in all my playtime. I do intend to pursue stronger augs in the future, but considering how rare HQ3 synergy is alongside the cost of tatters I'll take that task slowly. I already spent a decent sum on these augs and I want to make some more gil before trying again. Edited, Jun 11th 2011 11:07pm by Melphina
