I've been searching, trying to figure out the answer to this question. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have already beaten G5... on Corsair. So, I've never beaten Maat. I've officially not completed the quest Shattering Stars. So, if I take my Thief in to fight him... will I be allowed to win by stealing? :)
And furthermore, since I haven't beat him before, will he teleport me out there, or do I have to walk?
I realize that if you've beaten Maat before, the answer to these questions is 'no,' but, as I said, I haven't beaten Maat, so I wasn't sure where that leaves me. ^^

Can You Steal from Maat If... ?Follow

I can't answer for people that beat on ToAU or WotG jobs and then tried Shattering Stars.
However, I can tell you that if you beat Maat, let's say on red mage, then try to fight him on thief, you will be able to steal the warp scroll from him.
You will not win the fight through just stealing and you will still be required to beat him down.
Personal experience.

My bet is that if Maat (in Ru'Lude) *won't* warp you by trading the testimony to him, whatever sort of flag that allows you to win by stealing is probably not there, since the warp (as well as winning with the steal) is something that will only work if you haven't already beaten him before. So I would try doing that first.
By the way, if you do have to fight him I highly recommend being 75. As 69 using an EXP scroll to ding 70 midbattle for a full HP restore, I simply could not win, and this was with full dagger/evasion/crit merits and various spiffy equipment a THF on his first job would likely not have.

I decided to go test it out. I don't know if Stealing from him works, but I can tell you that he teleported me out to the arena. I ended up beating him the old fashioned way.
