This is not an accomplishment of personal equipment aquired per se, but I think this warrents mention nevertheless. I've said in the past that I haven't done any salvage yet, and it's the only event I haven't done. Well about a week and a half ago I made a friend at ballista who was making a small 7 man shell and I got accepted into it. This past Sunday I beat The Black Coffin and finished my cutscenes and we entered Bhaflu remnants as our first salvage together yesterday morning before the maintinence. It was pretty sloppy, but many of us had no salvage experience so it was a trial first time run. I think we only saw one remnant, the chigo spitting door one.

Anyways, tonight we just did our second run and the zone was Arraggarapo Remnants (spelling). This time it was much smoother, cells got passed and lotted much better, the organisation was smoother, and we were rolling through at a good pace considering it was the second run. Ok so we get to the first QQ Treasure Hunter and the plan was set, blm opens with burst II and I precharge sneak attack + feint then flee + hide and we go beat its guts out before it runs too far. I almost forgot I was supposed to try and steal a cell from it too >.>

Well the result of my first ever Arra. Remnants NM was This.

I couldn't believe it, and truthfully neither could they. Our first arra run and second run together in shell and we already had the level 35 part for ares body. We were ecstatic, little did we know the night was soon to get REALLY interesting.

10 minutes later we round a few corners and get to the second QQ treasure Hunter. Same deal, open with nuke, precharge and land feint, beat its brains out. We did that and our reward was

A few wide eyes, and a bunch of jaws on the floor

My second run in salvage, and in the SAME run we got not one, but TWO level 35 body pieces. And it's a small 7 man shell to boot.

Like I said, no gear for my own person. But the experience of the night was too much to NOT feel giddy about. It was just so **** COOL. This will be a memory I will keep of new friends and hopefully good things in the future, I had a lot of fun this past week in a totally new event. Heres to hoping I really DO get the skadi cuire. That'd be so **** cool if I did.... *purrrr*

You're on Fenrir, Melphina? I thought so- I've checked you like 5 or 6 times running by you in Whitegate. XD

Don't have much to say for the company you're keeping in that screenshot, but congratulations nonetheless. :3

The last Bhaflau I was on that we did 4th floor rampart we had *5* freaking Perytons spawn. The 5th one was at a REALLY low HP% of the rampart, so we had the melee 2 hour it, and were rewarded well with a Freya's Jerkin. Too bad they won't drop my pants though. >:(

Meanwhile we've been doing Arrapago for months and have been rewarded with only a single Ares 35. -_- Macha just will not drop for us, and neither will the last piece I need for Jambeaux either. :\ We've gotten to the point where we can run all the NMs and the Boss in a single run - the whores just won't drop. Stupid luck.

Grats on your fun run, Mel. I will say this: Don't expect such luck to continue. :P If it does, then you're truly blessed.

Ya, I'm on Fenrir now. I transferred there from Unicorn about two months ago. I've spent the past 2 and a half years doing regular events and runs in all areas of the world, and the past 4 years to level not one but two crafts to 100 plus a lot more stuff with over 500 days logged across the board. I just decided I'd like a change to pursue some other things, (like finding a fiancee IRL hehe.) I retired my thief from the time sinks that I was placing on myself. I still have a character on Unicorn to keep in touch with my friends, and I stop in to say hi on a semi-regular basis.

Tbh I'm a lot happier this way. When I first started FFXI back in 2003 I didn't have a goal or purpose, but I soon set my mind up in 2004 to level goldsmithing to 100, and I finished that task in 2007 over three years later. I fell in love with thief around the same time I started crafting, and have since gotten 100 bonecraft. Each person has different goals in game, and my goal was to make Melphina the best thief I possibly could. I didn't want to do all the jobs, I wanted to perfect one. Now I've gotten most of that which I could ever desire, and I'm happy with her as she is.

I could never put in the same level of effort for another job as I did for my thief, and I hate grinding and leveling (heck I'm not even fully merited yet, just very close to capping thief ones). Maat's cap is out of the question, so now I'm just taking things on a day by day basis and seeing where the future takes me. With an active ballista once again and new friends, plus a connection to all the old friends, as well as a more relaxed playstyle I'm enjoying FFXI again a lot more than I was before. I'm sure any of the regulars here who have done end game hardcore can relate to that experience, and the feeling of unease with so many planned events to go to. It just got to be too much for me so I let it go, and I'm glad I did.

Oh and this

Oh I'm aware the drop rates suck on these pieces, which was why I totally didn't expect it when it happened. I'm having fun in a new event though, and this is the only thing I plan to put on the schedule. It's actually pretty neat so far, and the concept is something I haven't seen before. I doubt I'll see this kind of luck again, but tbh I've been really lucky in all my career (maybe that's partially because I DID put so much time in >.>). Either way, I'm having fun with this so far, salvage is actually... pretty cool O.O.

Now THIS is something I'm very proud of, not so much because of the item itself (although I have wanted it for a long time), but because of HOW I got it. I'll give a short background to what happened this morning, as it was over 2 years in the making.

I Remember I got Sea February 28, 2007. I had been doing CoP missions with my social shell for a long time up to that, and when we got to Riverne Site A:O1 I KNEW I wanted the Voyager Sallet. Carmiene Dobsonfly has been on my mind off and on for a long time now, and I never was able to get people together to go kill the thing. In my attack gear for level 60 ballista the Voyager Sallet is the FINAL upgrade to my empress hairpin, so I wanted to take another shot at it. I have tried to solo the Firedrakes for a Giant Scale to no avail, and people are often busy for farming, so this morning I decided to take it upon myself to dual box the thing. My brother tried FFXI 2 years ago and quit, lasted all but the free trial period, and leveled a tarutaru blm to level 8. I thought he was too cute and loved his name, so I took him over and soloed him so far to level 68, but I was never able to dual box anything successfully. Today however I brought him and Melphina to Riverne A:01 (lol, that's as far as he is in missions, can't enter B:01 for freeze ), and as thief/nin tanked the drakes with him as blm/nin. I had NO cure other than bloody bolt, so I ate sushi, and between a lot of patience and a few deaths (and Dispelling wind sucks for reraise earrings) I grabbed two gian't scales off of 5 kills with a few wipes.

I got to the Unstable Displacement, opened it and took both characters to the NM area, which all 10 were up. YAY. I found out that bio II is NOT fullproof, because while its accuracy is 100% its POTENCY is lost with each successive raise. That is to say, the more weakness you accrue, the less damage each cast will do, eventually doing ZERO damage and the mob regenerating to full (lobbed blm at drakes and discovered that the hard way).

So I picked a dobsonfly after both were at full with reraise, and since they have party hate I disbanded the 2 characters. They don't aggro, so I opened with a Bio II + burn with the blm, and after he died immediately raised, used reraise again, and grouped him with Mel and did a SATA on a fly (poor blm). I alternated mel with a solo Sneak and my blm to keep bio II on, which I discovered is EXACTLY 2 minutes in duration, no more, no less.

When the fly was at 10% Mel just came out of unweakened state, and one more BIO II took it to 3% when I landed a solo Sneak Attack on the thing killing it.

I went 1/1 on the Voyager Sallet drop, FIRST TRY!!! <--- You can see I broke the party to prevent dual deaths, as I killed solo and items immediately dropped.

And now my level 60 Cap ballista zerging outfit is Perfected.

I did a Jugner forest 60 cap, then Passed out before pash because I stayed up overnight getting Voyager. I took the screenie just now as I got back of me by the Marshal. This was REALLY cool, because I have never successfully dual boxed anything before and this is my first time actually accomplishing a goal with a 2 box, and the sallet is just a really nice item, for many more jobs than just thief.

Congrats on the Voyager Sallet, Mel, that's a great cap piece.

Let me give you some advice on soloing for Giant Scales as THF. I wouldn't call it easy, but it's very doable. You want to go to Site #B01 and kill Pyrodrakes for them. Try to find one that's EM (I've killed a few T's, but it's much harder without the Signet bonus). You can also drag higher level ones out of their spawn area and depop them in hopes that they'll repop EM. The fight is pretty straightforward; just worry about keeping Utsusemi up. If you're out of shadows and the timer is down, sleep bolt. Recast shadows and let the timer cool a bit before reengaging. Keep your HP up with bloody bolts. Blind bolts should also be handy here. And if he gets in a few lucky hits and it's looking like you might not win, you can always Hide and try again.

So there you go; it's possible. Too bad you probably have no reason to ever do it now, heh.

Really boring accomplishment here but I just soloed Diamond Daig. I read the wiki that he double attacks almost every round and since he has beetle evasion down special attack I went in evasion stuff, didn't bring my blm (REALLY wish I had now).

The thing was so stupidly EASY, it was more endurance and patience. His HP is %$#@ MASSIVE, like 25,000 or so, and his defence is even MORE massive. I had coeurl subs on with blau dolch hitting for 17-20 average and with acid bolts 26 or so, so even with 12.5% defense down, and subs I was in negative attack rating... BADLY!!. Sheez, I guesstimate his defense around 560-600??? whatever it is its ^%%$#@ MONSTROUS. Wind proc on sirocco did like 1/5-1/4 of my melee damage it was so hardened.

At any rate his accuracy sucked and he only hit for 60-70 damage, I could recast ichi most of the time and if I cared enough I could shoot bloodys. I got bored about halfway in and got ichi up and went to the refrigerator for a soda, came back and my 3 shadows were down but I hadn't been hit yet about a minute later with about 280 TP stored >.>. Dancing edge only did 250-300 or so anyway and since he was so easy and it was such a mind numbing LONG fight I didn't pay much attention to it. My blm was nowhere near so i didn't bother bringing him, but it woulda cut the kill time down by like 70% for sure, especially since collaborator exists hehe.

At any rate it was one of them double earth weather mobs in altepa, pretty cool to see. Boring long *** fight but the reward is 100% at least. It was something new, bangles are nice in ballista, other than that nothing big.

A week after dinging 75, I get my first bit of homam! Omega dropped double legs tonight, so I got to lot. Don't think I got them easily though. I've been doing limbus for almost a year now twice weekly, and this is the first boss drop I got. I worked hard for these, and am **** happy to have them :)
