The only MMO I really gave two flips about was FFXI, and that had more to do with it being a gift from an ex-girlfriend and a static party. If it weren't for both of those conditions I probably wouldn't have even looked twice at it. Even after the ex became an ex, I stuck with the static group and pretty much easily completed stuff so I was never really part of the playerbase that had any difficulty completing anything, including the (at the time) "elitist gear." I played WoW to level cap two or three times, but that's kind of like saying "Hey, I woke up this weekend." Never really got drawn in.

Back to Square, I gave up on them after FF8. Their quality really went down the hill after leaving Nintendo, but I guess that's understandable. Nintendo used to have very rigorous standards procedures before they put their little gold star on the cover, and one of the conditions Sony gave Square on their departure was more money lax standards. Which, on the surface sounds like a great idea: Square was free to make any game they wanted without someone over their shoulders. Under that surface? Sephiroth, Squall and now a mountain of trash.

****, thanks to Final Fantasy XIV they broke Zam. Smiley: motz

Not to be completely dreary: My Cousin Vinny continues to be an awesome movie, but probably because half of my family acts like Joe Pesci. Holiday dinners are always fun.

I can't imagine MMO end-game without a steady group. The only reason I did anything in WoW was because it was family and friends plus a few others. The idea of having to completely rely on random people to achieve objectives is unsettling at best.

I rather liked just doing stuff on my own in WoW from time to time, playing it more like a single player game than anything else. At least for leveling, just thinking of nothing, listening to music and running around doing quests.

There was something about a good leveling grind in that game back in the day. The idea you may just go to an area and kill stuff. As compared to nowadays where every inch is covered in quest objectives. It's a different feel. Just add in some drama in general chat or guild chat to help entertain and let the good times commence.

On a side note I don't think I ever got over the Catacylsm, it kind of destroyed my link to Azeroth, since everything I remembered is gone now.

I liked the overhaul of the old world, the new stuff just didn't do anything for me and people are just as stupid so endgame either means a horrifying experience or sinking in 30-40 hours a week.

the lack of a steady group was a big part of what drove me away from wow.

druid dps got less evil when they made the difference between mangle and shred less. rake / rip getting some of the you can cast before the last tick and extend helped as well, a lot to be honest.

feral melee dps is way better than warrior with raid gear these days to the best of my knowledge. maybe more due to warriors being on the bottom of the melee pile than anything else though but idk.

i had many beers after work.

life is good

Hey! This forum was built on armchair game designing.

The combo point CD wouldn't work, though. It's too powerful in PvP and doesn't cut it in PvE. They should/could do what Trion did with combo points in Rift. Make the combo points apply to the caster, not the target. No reason not to (since the caster is doing the combo) and it makes it easier to switch targets.

Anyway, I jumped on a dummy and did a couple of minutes of purely keeping up Savage Roar, Rip, Rake and avoiding energy cap. Pushed 30k DPS. Unfortunately, almost every boss fight in Pandaria dungeons involves phases, which usually means the main boss becomes immune to damage while you take care of a secondary objective, like killing evil reflections or a sub-boss. There's nothing worse than putting up a 5pt boosted Rip and then the boss goes into Phase 2. Waste of five combo points.

Designing Ferals around Rip and Savage Roar was a terrible idea from day one. Druid rotation should be about keeping up Savage Roar for sustained damage or Ferocious Bite for burst. Not Savage Roar for overall damage increase, Rip for sustained damage and Ferocious Bite interwoven for optimal output. That's three finishers you have to use, and you have to do math every time, otherwise a buff/debuff falls off and your DPS drops down to pitiful levels.

Savage Roar should buff auto attacks by a fair amount, like back in Cataclysm or Wrath or whenever. This means increased sustainable damage that doesn't suffer from target switching. Ferocious Bite damage should be balanced out so that it becomes a viable alternative to Savage Roar. You'd end up with something like:

If the fight is going to last more than 1 minute: Use Savage Roar.
If the fight is going to last less than 1 minute: Use Ferocious Bite.

Alternatively, they should roll the Savage Roar buff into the Druid (since the buff should always be up, anyway) and just have us focus on using Rip for sustained damage and Ferocious Bite for burst damage.

And sure, the Feral "rotation" is easy when you do it on a dummy. Add boss mechanics, like puddles of goo, instagib cleaves/cones, AOE group wipes and immunity, and it becomes a pain in the *** to manage. And I don't even have Dream of Cenarius yet. It's going to be a nightmare once I hit level 90. I have to weave heals into my DPS rotation to do competitive damage?

I mean, seriously?

That's all on you though. You (should) know when a boss will change phases and not to use Rip right before that.

I've played through a lot of the Pandaria 5-mans, and I have yet to find a meaningful system in the phase shifts there. Sometimes, the bosses will go into second phase with a delayed cue. Unless you're looking at the boss during the fight, you could miss it. I can't look at the boss while I'm looking at timers.

And before we go there, I shouldn't have to use an add-on to play my class competitively. DBM would help, but I wouldn't need it on my Warrior and thus shouldn't need it on my Druid.

Phase shifting will most likely be either triggered or timed so it only takes knowledge of a fight.

That said, you shouldn't be having to constantly look at your timers during a fight, it's distinctively not fun.

I'm assuming you're the tank and your daughter is the hunter with Kitty as a pet so that makes your wife the healer, right?

Not sure if current, but M1Abrams is probably the tank.

It's really great at reducing slash damage, though not all that effective against nukes. Though, I guess it's better than plate mail either way.

Slash damage and nukes.

Good ol' World War 3 will be fought with intercontinental ballistic missiles... and swords.

Stupid OS chokes on a folder containing 65,000 files and now I have to wait for it's brain to catch up before I can do anything...

Does a Unix distro handle files that size better than Windows?

I have no idea, stuff runs in windows though, so I get stuck there. (I want to say if we do this on a Mac and it goes so much faster, IIRC of course)

Odd tip, if you open a command window and set the path to the folder before clicking to open it, it will open immediately, instead of taking 3 minutes. Smiley: oyvey
