Really should get to that other coast out there at some point anyways. It's been a long time. I hear you people have snow though, what's up with that?

Snow is pretty and makes people fall over, so also entertaining. Hasn't been too bad so far, but apparently the South is trying to send us an extinction level disaster so we'll see next weekend how long that works out for us.

What the hell is this?

Looks like Vulcan Reddit, but I guess not. Some serious thesaurus usage in there.

You know what I hate in movies/series? When characters hold back information because they think it's embarrassing to tell it to anyone else. Like in this episode of Enterprise I'm watching. The crew is on shore leave, and the captain is seduced and drugged by a spy related to an earlier incident. Instead of telling anyone, he's all "Yeah, no, I just read a book and relaxed" on the shuttle back to the ship.

WHY?! Why would you withhold that kind of information from your closest colleagues and friends? Is there any human being on the planet who would go through that and not immediately call 911 and freak the **** out? Or at least be like "Um, so, I kinda got drugged by this spy, and it's all related to that incident earlier where we almost died, and she mentioned something about me not standing in the way of something about to happen... You guys think we should run this by Starfleet?" And would any human being in their right mind respond with "Um, yeah, you should probably never tell anyone, because that's totally embarrassing, and I now question the size of your penile appendage"?

The last part was paraphrased.

Good lord, Duck Dynasty is some funny stuff. Heard it mentioned in a podcast and decided to watch a few episodes.

Damn, they're everything I ever imagined a redneck to be. Watching "Miss Kay" cook up some squirrel stew and Phil and Si going beaver hunting... it's so stereotypical that it hurts my brain. I always imagined it to be like a myth or something. An exaggerated version of the truth. I realize it's television, but if they're just 50% the rednecks they're portrayed as in the show, it's still more than I imagined.

The only reason I know Duck Dynasty at all is because of the trouble the main guy got into with his mouth a few months (year?) ago. Also the oldest guy does commercials for some food shack so he pops up on tv once in a while.

They're basically what every redneck would be if you gave them a pile of money to sit on and nothing much else to do. A team of T.V. writers have taken the place of the idiot friend who's sitting in the corner saying "I bet you can't do that with a pile driver!" So you get stupid hijinks happening more often than they would have, but it's still the kind of stuff where you sit up and say "yeah I know someone who did that" or "that's almost just like what happened to so-and-so." It's so close to real it's scary.

Yeah, the more episodes I watch, the more obvious it becomes that it's all staged. The first few episodes had me guessing, because the acting was flawed just enough to look credible for a documentary about some very eccentric people, but now that they're bringing in the rest of the family, the difference is pretty clear. Most of the other family members can't even keep a straight face when the others start talking.

I'm guessing the family had redneck tendencies, and some TV guy decided it would make great television if they went full throttle on the redneck. I've seen pictures of the cast members before the show; none of them had full beards. I mean...

I don't think I've ever seen anything labeled "reality television" that had anything to do with reality. I mean, how often do a dozen people get stranded on a desert island and get put on a Japanese gameshow?

Well it's on a real island. What more did you want?

How's the series doing these days anyway? Is their 15min of fame up yet? Just seemed like it's one of those things where they'd have to be doing bigger and bigger stunts until it became obvious that the whole thing was staged and the house of cards would crumble fast. You know, like a Storage Wars. Or is that still a thing too? Should really watch some T.V. aimed towards people over 6 years old at some point.

On that note though Fresh Off the Boat has been amusing, or at least the little I've seen of it.

Survivor? No clue, I don't think I've ever watched more than two episodes. I think they still run, and there's an infinite number of copy-cats that I also don't watch. I don't seem to watch anything that doesn't have a comic book attached to it nowadays.

I was traveling the last two weeks, and so actually watched a bit of tv, so can answer the survivor question as I saw an ad for it. The latest version is white collar vs blue collar vs no collar.

I still have no desire to watch it.

Maybe there's a Shaman in there cleansing them so he has to refresh more often.

I missed the S in cleansing and imagined Family Guy's Consuela as a Shaman.

Casting Chain Lightning, "No ... no ... no ..."
