I got one for my birthday, it's a pretty basic Bestron which aren't the best quality (the lid doesn't stay closed well due to a design flaw) but it works well and boils the water pretty quickly.

I am now in the odd situation of owning 3 kettles though...

We live in the attic. We're quiet and well behaved for the most part, although there is probably muffled noise during hockey games and winter olympics.

Freier Fall wasn't nearly as good as I expected it to be. Smiley: glare

The ending, at least, was better than I expected it to be when the last act was coming to a close. Y'know, if anyone's looking to watch a gay German drama.

Either straight people are actually that weird, or this couple was just really awkward. And then there was the whole "**** in the rain without lube" thing.

It was just... weird.

ALSO, (in before "go to the doctor") I'm pretty much in the middle of a panic attack from spending half an hour around my boss, and I'm about to have a two hour meeting with her.

Let's see if I come out of this employed.

Oh, and I lost 7 months of accrued vacation time.

That has nothing to do with the panic attack, but it was a really ****** thing to discover (particularly when you're in the middle of a panic attack).

So I started here as a part time temporary employee (on salary for 3 days). Sometime around May I started working fulltime by submitting additional hours. In October I went fulltime, officially. Meaning I started getting all the additional benefits I was legally supposed to be getting since May but wasn't. Most importantly healthcare (which kicked in 2 months later, shortly before my hospital stay).

It turns out that ONLY time earned in your last month of temporary employment carries over to a new position. This was never told to me (I should note I never once had a benefits presentation or anything in my original position). I should have assumed I'd get screwed, because literally every other benefit I was promised turned out to be ********* but I never imagined I'd lose that time.

So yeah.

That REALLY sucks because I was hoping to visit my friend in Slovakia sometime this Spring.

But wait, you might be thinking I have more time earned since December right?

HAHA!

See, when I had my surgery, I contacted my boss and she said she'd handle it. I knew that was a bad idea at the time, but I wasn't really in a position to care/argue that.

So instead of getting a medical leave I... didn't. Which means I'm using my time to pay for that.

I want to make clear that this level of ******** isn't even registering on my anxiety-o-meter right now. I'm so used to getting ****** with my benefits that it's almost just funny.

I mean, what did I expect, to work here fulltime for a year and get the benefits promised to me? Smiley: rolleyes

So far, I've been picky with my job hunt, because there are ways in which this position is really good (primarily for resume building). But I'm hitting the point where I think I'd prefer to work at Dunkin Donuts again...

Didn't you just start working there a little over a year ago? How did you accrue 7 months of vacation time? I thought this was a private sector job.

That probably wasn't going to happen anyway since this side of the pond seems to have decided to skip Spring alltogether.

I'd take the first part up with your human resources people, but the second part will probably be a lost cause without a paper trail of some sort.

See, the problem is that I signed an offer letter. The policies and benefits packages are convoluted, which is why you NORMALLY get a benefits seminar here when you first become employed. I didn't get one until I first became fulltime, 8 months later.

So the offer letter they hand you pretty much just gives you a web address to the benefits website, and then you need to figure out what does and does not go to your employee classification (which, per page, isn't so hard. But you can't just see your benefits package by employee class, which is @#%^ing stupid).

What that means is that when I signed my offer letter my superiors explained my benefits to me, and I took them at their word. To their credit, they THOUGHT they were correct (or at least, I don't think they were lying), they were just ridiculously wrong. But it would have been apparent really quickly if they sent me to the benefits meetings I was supposed to go to, but they didn't.

My boss also didn't take me out for lunch, which is apparently a thing? I wouldn't know, but my sister was pissed when she found out? Is that actually a thing?

[EDIT]

As in 7 months worth. Like, the rate at which you earn time. I can't remember what it is off the top of my head, probably 1 day per month or something. Still, that's a week of vacation time, gone.

As of right now, it looks like no. No sick time, no vacation days, no admin leave.

Admin leave accrues at 1/2 a day a month, with a cap of 3 days. Vacation is 1 per month. Sick is 1 per month.

So that gave me around 2 sick days, 2 vacation days, and 1 admin day by January. It uses all of my time to date to cover the leave.

I won't have enough time to take a realistic trip to Europe unless I get something back, which I doubt I will.
