Sven seemed like such a safe choice...
k so a little drunk but bear with me
The event is holdout mode. Your goal is to protect the base (in this case, Skeleton King while he gets a makeover). There is a limited amount of heroes, and some of their abilities have been changed to better fit the mode. Sven is a good choice especially with his cleave, but the downside is you're not good until lategame when you get a bunch of damage items.
Kill sh*t, make sure you are always picking up gold, etc. Sven pairs especially well with Magnus. People are rezzed and life/mana is refilled upon a wave completion, so the only goal is to protect Skeleton King until all mobs are dead. That's it. Any specific questions?
Sven's stun is good early on, but he needs damage to remain effective. Build typical strength carry. Attack speed and damage, crit, etc. Daedalus, Heart, Heaven's Halbard. Grab a wand early, you get oodles of charges from the abilities creeps use.
I think specific wave advice is more prudent here than hero advice, so here it goes: On the undying wave, kill zombies as necessary, but Undying is your priority since he summons more zombies. Stun him mid cast if you can. For the Nature's Profit wave, focus the NPs first. They can summon an insane amount of treants, and the Treant Protectors aren't a huge threat by themselves. For the Slark wave, dodge the Slark leaps - they hurt really, really bad. For the Lich wave, spread out. He uses Lich's ult (chain frost, which is an orb that bounces between characters).
Make sure you're around dying creeps as much as possible. The experience is super valuable.
If you want to carry, pick Drow or Sven. Lina is also a good all-around pick, with good AoE early and good right-click late, and if you want to support Crystal Maiden will always be good (cast her aura on people AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Can't emphasize that enough.) If you pick a support (I'd categorize Magnus in here for this mode) try and go full aurabitch mode. Vlads, drums, anything that give an aura or increases damage of teammates/increases damage taken by the enemy/reduces damage taken by allies. Auras are really good in this mode.
