A searingly painful admission that burns my soulFollow

*stands up*

I'm a level 73 Destruction Warlock and I have an admission to make: I haven't used Soulburn since 4.0.1 hit.

Not that I don't see the use in it for things like PvP and instances and stuff, it's just that I've been soloing since the patch hit. I see myself doing more PvP soon, but being a low level caster in a battleground is frustrating, since I'm lacking spell hit and all.

I mean my minion hasn't died yet, so no instant summoning, Life Drain and Healthstone hardly seem necessary, as stuff dies pretty darn fast these days. I suppose I could start out with a instant soulfire, or some searing pain spam perhaps, but I don't know. I feel like I'm missing out on something I should be doing. Then again an emergency button is an emergency button, and soloing doesn't usually require you to press those often. *shrugs*

Anyway, if any of you warlocks use it when soloing, how do you use it?

Any tips or tricks?

I've only used it for the occasional Soulfire or Seed of Corruption.

The cooldown is way too long for it to be useful in PvE, in my opinion.

Soulburn confession #2 then:

As a 80 Aff Lock, I've used soulburn..... once!

In my defense, i've only played 4.0 once before moving house and losing my internet connection. Normaql service is due to return within the fortnight (fingers crossed etc).

The cooldown isn't that long but it's none of the effects are hugely useful on a regular basis. Instant soulfire everyone once in a while is nice, but hardly game breaking if you forget about it.

(Though I have to say, as affliction soulburn: seed of corruption is amazingly fun on big packs of mobs. Makes nightfall proc like crazy too.)

Isn't it the same?

And the cooldown is way too long. 45 seconds or so, right? How often can you use the Evocation-ish spell that regenerates three Soul Shards? Oh, and you get the Soul Shard back if the Seed procs. And you can regen Soul Shards with Drain Soul which is the Affliction finisher anyway.

I mean, what are we supposed to spend the Soul Shards on? Instant cast Soul Fires? On a regular heroic run, I never came close to running out of Shards. I usually just use one for the improved Seed of Corruption on large clusters of mobs. And using Drain Soul on any of those trash mobs regenerates that Shard instantly. Smiley: thumbsup
