Riding speed questionFollow

I have a (possibly/probably stupid) question:

I know about the DK talent that speeds your riding. This has nothing to do with that.

One of my alts is a DK, I don't play him all that much, but do enjoy pulling him out every once in a while.

I would like to know: is it an illusion due to the particular animation, or is the Acherus Deathcharger a faster mount than my other ground mount?

They are both technically supposed to be 100% ground mounts, but the Acherus mount just SEEMS to run faster. I can't exactly compare against myself. I know that the Tauren racial mount gives the impression of being much slower than other comparable mounts, but that it IS an illusion (which I presume is due to relative size, running style, etc...).

Thanks for any answers.

Pretty sure it's just an illusion. My mount is way too small for the orc that's sitting on it and it appears to run faster, even though I know it doesn't.

I have that with flying too. My druid's swift flight form appears to be considerably faster than if I was to put him on a regular epic mount, like one of the various drakes. Hell, he even seems to be flying faster than my pally with Cruader Aura on.

Guess it's just another one of those things where size actually DOES matter :P

The Deathcharger has a more aggressive stride than your average mount, even among the 'horse' models (even for Tauren; compare it to the Argent Warhorse, or the Forsaken's Skeletal Warhorses...guarantee the Deathcharger looks faster). It doesn't actually move any faster, but the strides make it look like it does. The illusion is probably to facilitate the fact that it's supposed to be this crazed beast that you've broken.

Edit: Kannar, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks that XD

I have issue with how much wing flapping the other flying mounts do too; it's theoretically necessary given their size but I rather like the stylized glide that my bird form does.

I don't mind the flying mounts flapping their wings, though I'd like to see more gliding, but I do have a problem with flying mounts that are able to hover in mid-air despite lacking any kind of updraft (rockets, airplanes, to name the only two I've seen).

thank-you. that answers my question clearly.

which is a lot better than the utter idiocy I got from /trade!!! (surprise, surprise)

my personal favorite is when you press on the spacebar really fast as your mounting animation ends and you "jump" into the air but in a "standing position". and if you hold on to the spacebar, you can fly around with no wing flap, no movement, you're just basically this big ugly "standing-room-only" horse-thing. taking curves in that position is pretty funny.
