Inscription vs AlchemyFollow

Okay, so i see it coming, and yes I searched the site for this and seemed to get nowhere, and I have researched both professions. I want some opinions on which would be better for a mage, I am doing great at herbalism, and my inscription level is eh, so its either switch or stick with it. I have been selling most of my herbs because this mage is my first toon. Need funds to get me on my feet. I seems like inscription is popular since its new, but I remember the good old herb and alc combo. I used to play as a note, a couple years ago. But now that I'm back I can't see which way to go. I was just wondering people opinions on each profession, I see inscription being a money makes like alchemy, but I also see far too many people with it. I'm guessing high supply of glyphs and such isn't good for that branch of the economy. Well I'd love some feedback, and thanks for any tips.

Endgame bonuses:

Inscription gets the Master's Inscription of the Storm, which is 70 SP and 15 crit. The normal version is 24 SP and 15 crit, so you gain 46 SP.

Alchemy gets their duration of flasks/elixers doubled, which can be extremely useful if you intend to raid. They also gain a bonus to flasks/elixers, which will make their Flask of the Frost Wyrm give 47 more SP than normal. But, obviously, that means you have to USE a flask. Which you may not want to bother with if all you do is Heroics.

Of the two, Alchemy should be more profitable due to transmutation and the fact that what they make is generally more sought after. It's what I would choose.

Thanks for the input, and that's funny, I didn't even realize that the Sons of Hodir shoulder enchant was weaker, I had the impression inscription was just a short cut. And I intend on starting out with raiding, then once I'm geared I'll switch to PvP. And yes the profit factor is important to me because it is my first toon. I've seen the prices of things haha. But thank you so much for the help, and I was leaning towards alchemy myself. Inscription doesn't really provide anything I can't get through the AH or somewhere else besides that shoulder enchant. Plus if I find a guild, alchemy will be more useful.

Alchemists also get Flask of the North, which although it is weaker than the other flasks it has unlimited uses, making it ideal for running heroics. The bonus is, again, 47 SP. So whether you're using a "real" flask or not, you've got a permanent 47 SP from Alchemy.

I'd also point out that generally speaking Alch is a more "Repeat" business.

I've respec'd and I've Respec'd my Dual spec, but honestly - My Glyphs.... Don't change too much. (I play 3 toons at 80)

Generally with Glyphs you'll find that some are strictly PVE, PVP, or "other bonus/Sub-optimal"

So when it comes down to it - Making glyphs has a set level of value. People generally shouldn't be changing things in and out on a regular basis... But from an Alch perspective (I do not have an ALCH toon) you will burn through 2-4 pots (Minimum) for a general raid. When it comes to pushing content... Expect to burn more pots.

So from a purely financial point - I'd go w/ Alch.

From another side of it - I'd dump Herb and go mining. First Ore tends to sell better. Second The passive bonus is better (STA vs healing) and Third Herbs tend to peak faster than ore. (Ore peaks, but as new patterns are released w/ mini expacs and the like - ore maintains it's value slightly better. (Again this is IMO.)

Thank you all so much for the input! I'd hate to not follow up on this, but I have now gotten alchemy to 450 with the help of furious farming and an Alc leveling guide, oh and probably about 1k gold spent in the AH xP but thank you all! your advice ultimately made me decide to go with Alchemy.
