I've had birthdays I don't remember, so I have to assume they were pretty awesome.

I've been to the Tour once, 4 hours of cars passing by and then about 5 minutes of cyclists going by very very fast. It wasn't all that much fun.

Went to a place called Valmorel, one of the many ski resort "villages" in the Alps.

It's some 70 kilometers from Mont Blanc (could see the top of it from our terrace) and is close to Les 3 Vallées (3 Valleys). Spent a good 10 days hiking the mountains, cooling off in the pool and drinking Pelforth Brune at various cafes. And I got to see Tour de France from a mountain top on my birthday. Good times.
Well, it's good to see you're still in one piece young man. We were worried. You could have called. Is it that difficult to pick up a phone? Or were you just too busy to call and let us know you were O.K.?

You disappear for two weeks while we sit here staring at the phone all night and all day, worried sick about our little boy, and you not once thought, "Oh, I should call and let them know I'm O.K."? That's not how you were raised! We have feelings too you know!

. . . well . . . it is good to have you back, after all. We saved some of Aethien's Schwartzwalder Kirschtörte for you, whatever the hell that is. Honestly, it looks like an inside-out dead animal, but he says it tastes great. It's in the refrigerator. No, there's no beer in the refrigerator, Aethien has us drinking warm stout now. Look in the oven.

. . . oh, come here and give me a big hug!

dude, it's chocolate cake with whipped cream, cherries and cherry liquor. What's not to love?

Also, it's summer, summer is for nice cold IPA's. witbier, Weissbier and lambic.

Looks like I came back just in time.

Kirschtorte is excellent, but it's sort of the wrong country for that. I had crêpes, crème brûlées and Génépi for dessert while in France.

Southern Tier made a creme brulee stout. It's supposedly very sweet and really tastes like creme brulee..

Think of it as bottled creme brulee with alcohol and some chocolate and roasty flavours.

Also, I started sneezing today and my nose is now so full of snot I can't sleep anymore. Oh and I just had the wonderful experience of pulling a ~1.5 inch spider out of my hair.

Time to shave it all off.

What? That's a reasonable reaction.

I am actually getting my hair cut soon. Unrelated to the spider though.

Well you may want to warn whoever is cutting it, lest there be more.

Despite the fact that I have long hair I do notice when a spider is crawling around in there so I'm confident my head is spider free now.

So, I need to go outside today and cycle to the nearest city (~7 miles) and I just read a warning on the news for dangerous weather. Because of the high humidity every time it rains today there is a significant chance it escalates to a thunderstorm with heavy wind and hail up to a few cm in diameter.

I'd wash my hair in petrol and light it on fire. Only way to be sure that none of the spider spawn survive.

I live in the middle of a forest, spiders and bugs are unavoidable here but they're all harmless.

That would kill me too. Or at least get me in jail for years.

Plus there are also squirrels and deer and rabbits and birds and boars in this forest.
