The secret to running is that it's not worth doing. You mess up your shin and knees in the end, and it's just as effective to just walk fast - you just have to walk further.

Running feels unhealthy, with the panting and the pain. It also looks unhealthy. Plus, you can't have a beer while you run, you would spill most of it. Not a problem when you're walking. Smiley: grin

Yeah, power walking or swimming is a lot easier on your knees.

Spent a good hour or so tonight watching Calculated's Moonkin PoV and commentary videos for raid fights. The commentary is only on the heroic versions, but from what I can tell there's not a lot of difference between normal and heroic modes. Just some additional abilities that make the fight more difficult. Rotation and such looks like it's about the same. They were really useful, I think I have a better idea of what I'm supposed to do to maximize dps on fights.

It's funny how some words are pronounced in the wrong way. We've got a lot of it here as well. Some pronounce håndklæde (towel) as hångklæde. Hindbær (strawberry) turns into himbær. Billed (picture) turns into biddel.

Drives me up the walls.

Heh, raspberry in German is actually Himbeere. Sometimes these mispronounciations do stick and become the standard. (It's the same with harass in English, for some reason that's being pronounced with a Jamaican accent nowadays).

Wow, I totally fail at English. Hindbær is raspberry, not strawberry. Strawberries are called jordbær.

I didn't even notice until you mentioned it, I mean I knew it was raspberry, so meh.

Also downloading some Urdu courses I found online. Gotta start somewhere, and it'll help me learn to read at least one of the Punjabi scripts (although Gurmukhi script is prettier, more widely used and the actual Sikh script, but beggars can't be choosers).

The script is what killed me when I was trying to learn Japanese. Way too many kanji--I was out sick for a month and was just way too far behind to catch up. >.< I couldn't even fathom learning Chinese, which has no syllabic alphabet to fall back on if necessary.

I used to be able to read a lot of Kanji, I never had the discipline to go through with Hiragana, haha. I wasn't systematic enough about it.

Urdu script is pretty messy; it looks very similar to Arabic. Gurmukhi is Sanskrit-based, which makes it instantly awesome, but all the letters look the same and I can't pronounce half of them. Well, that's a problem I'll have to deal with no matter what script I use.

Seriously, lol? Hiragana and katakana are the easy ones. :P Only one single syllable attached to them, and no individual meanings to learn.

With kanji, each one has 2-5 readings (sometimes more) with it's own definition as well. >.<

And these often... make no sense.

Take "Japan" for instance. It's "nihon."

Ni is the kanji for sun and Hon is the kanji for book.

Plus, the kanji ni (日) and the kanji hon (本) both have 5 strokes. The hiragana ni has 3, ho has 4 and n has 1. にほん So it actually takes more time to write.

Of course, this is a stupid example. But once you get to the kanji with 18 strokes, it's no longer fun--it's super annoying to have to write them instead of the hiragana they represent, which would take 1-4 strokes.

I learned Chinese for 6 years. I scored 90% or more on all my writing tests.

And I've encountered kanji that are so complicated they don't fit into the squares on the writing paper even if you use a really thin pencil/pen. D:

I'm tired. 7 year old kiddies are really cute but it's exhausting to work with them. So many scenarios where I'm not sure what to do and that just kills me.

They're evil, evil little symbols from Satan. >.<

It's a real shame, too. I really enjoyed learning Japanese, but I just couldn't catch back up. :(

It's not too difficult since they were fascinated by what I was doing and there was a teacher with each group who made sure it didn't devolve into complete and utter chaos. I just suck with chaotic new social situations where I don't know how to behave which means that I'm absolutely exhausted now.

It's not the chaos (though when that erupts, I tend to run away)--I just don't know how to interact with children. At all. Which is why I'll need to focus on the higher grades once I become a teacher. :P

I always made fun of people that would say they wished kids came with an instruction manual. I thought it was the stupidest cliche comment related to child care.

Now that I have a two year old daughter ...

It wasn't really so bad, just a lot of repetition. The hardest part was the speaking, that roller-coaster ride of tones was a pain in the butt.

I always assumed that the reason they don't come with a manual is because you'd need a new version of the manual every 3 months.

I actually rocked at tones when I learned Mandarin.

Truth be told, I was top of my class in everything because I revised an hour a day for it.

I wish I had a talent with languages, but I can barely manage to speak English correctly. >.<

My brother (a Spanish teacher) is the linguist in the family--he has a huge gift when it comes to accents and dialects. He visited Spain a year or two ago, and by the end of the first or second day, had to convince locals that he was actually from the US, because he had already tailored his speech to suit their customs.

I'm jealous. I'm crap when it comes to accents. I can learn the grammatical forms and memorize the vocabulary easily enough--reading and writing aren't that difficult. But I can't speak any language well. :(
