I've asked this question previously but I think the answers were mostly for lvl's 60+. I'm having trouble producing to much aggro while in groups. I'm a lvl 32. I usually group with warriors and hunters that are lvls 28-34. No matter what I do I always end up running and blinking for my life because the mobs come after me. I will wait until the tanks have started attacking before I start. But once I shoot that first fireball or Frostbolt they stop attacking the tanks and come at me. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen about half the time. I only use AOE when the guys are in trouble fighting 2 or more mobs. That also causes them to come at me. They keep coming even if the tank runs to them and starts attacking. usually I can blink and freeze enough to escape without dying, but I don't think I'm supposed to generate that much aggro. Is their a different strategy that mages should use at my level?

If you are just questing or killing stuff together then it doesnt really matter, the mob will die so fast it shouldnt get more then 2 hits on ya.
In instances it's different, let the tank put some sunders on the mob, or give the warrior atleast 5-10secs before you start attacking. It's common for us to generate aggro FAST, I find that I catch up to the tank, and rogues (that attack right away) almost instantly.

First... load ktm if you don't have it. It'll save your butt if everyone has it, you will be able to tell how much aggro you are pulling (it's a threat meter). Second, it depends *a lot* on the tank. You as a mage can easilly pull aggro, especially if the tank isn't doing things like 'sunder armor' and other threat producing abilities/special tricks. What I do when I run with an inferior tank is wand for a couple of seconds at the beginning of a fight, then scorch a bit, then really toss in some fireballs and start pouring on the aggro. Also, you can start with a pyroblast, as it gives the tank 6 seconds to gain aggro, but pyroblast can be a little spikey if you crit with it. When you draw aggro, always run *TO* the tank and then frost nova the mob by the tank. Pray you have a good tank and they will pull the aggro off of you.

PUGs are hard. If you run with your guildies, you will find out who is a 'good tank' and who is not as good of a tank. With good tanks, you still should wait for a sunder or two before nuking.

On a side note...

If you draw aggro, running/blinking away from the mob usually guarantees your death. It's the most common mistake made by new mages.

1. If you run, the mob chases you, which makes it a lot harder for your tank to regain aggro because he is out of range of the mob.

2. If you run, it makes it harder for your healers to keep you alive because they need to chase after you and keep you in healing range.

3. If you run, you may draw adds, causing your party to wipe.

In short... don't run when you draw aggro.
