Holy/Discipline Talent BuildFollow

#1 Apr 30 2007 at 7:39 AM Rating: Decent
I'm one of the (i guess) few holy priests (at least in my server) and i wanted to know what you guys thought of this talent build. This is what i plan on my talents to look like once i reach level 70. I planned it so that i have my primarily role as a healer tricker out and buffed up. Then the rest i put into discipline so that some of my other spells has an increased bonus and so i also have some other effects in my back pocket to further increase my efficiency and ability.

Talent Plan

let me know what you think :-)

oh and PLEASE don't tell me about how shadow is "better" for leveling and all that stuff. I UNDERSTAND THAT. but just because its better for leveling, doesn't mean that its what everyone should do. A priest is the best healer in the game. Seems like a disappointment to me if that niche isn't employed to its fullest ability. But even then, that isn't my reason for playing Holy. I play holy because it fits my style of play. I'm an avid team player so this is just what works best with me.

Here's my character if your interested
I take great care in outfitting my priest with the best gear (lots of AH and instances)

i personally use my renew spell ALOT .. but the thing about a build is that you should build it to suits your style of play

If you go holy why dont you go 5/5 in Spiritual Healing ?

If its all about healing why do you want to miss another +8% to your heals ?

I would reduce Spell Warding and put it into Spiritual Healing.

you can't do that. spiritual healing requires at least 25 holy talent points to access and since i have circle of healing (i use it a LOT). i cant cut other lower talents. the only way i can raise my spiritual healing is by just putting more talents into it. that would mean taking off some of the points i had planned in discipline for the rest

heres the tradeoff:

-2 talent in inner fire = loss of 20% increase for inner fire; level 70 spell: 1580 + 20% increase = 1896 so without = -316 armor

and

-2 talent in PW:S = loss of 10% increase for PW:S; level 70 spell: 1315 + 10% increase = 1446.5 so without = -131.5 available shielding ability

for

+4 talent points in spiritual healing = +8% more healing

-316 armor and -131.5 shield for +8% healing

which would you rather have?

I personally don't like the "deep" holy talents (Lightwell and Circle of Healing) much, but if you use them, oh well.

But two things:

First off, I think Holy Nova is pretty much useless and I know other priests who share that opinion. At level 47 (before I respecced) it did ~60dmg per mob and healed ~120 per player, and that's just not enough for the mana cost.
I'd just put that one point into Improved Renew and if you use Renew a lot those two points from Improve Inner Fire as well. Honestly, in groups (which are what healers rely on quite some time), Inner Fire shouldn't be an important buff because you are not supposed to get hit.
Or you could put these two points from Holy Reach into Improved Renew.

just my two cents.

(And, as you're progressing through the game, you will probably respecc at least once anyways.)

Lightwell and Circle of Healing are both crap ATM.

If you intend to spend all your time healing go with something like this.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/priest/talents.html?505200013150512001000235051010300150400000000000000000000000000

If you want to solo a bit, trade down some of the healing spells in order to get surge of light.

Here is another thought... lose Spiritual Healing and Spirit of Redemtion... put these points into Spirit Tap in the shadow tree. At level 70 you will have a decent spell known as SW: Death. You get to steal kills on trash mobs left and right. This allows for the following for your healer:

1. Doubles your Spirit for 15 seconds allowing for additional mana regen while still casting.

2. With Spiritual Guidance you now will receive an easy 75 - 100 +dmg/heal from this proc. That is huge for the 3 or 4 heals you can easily cast in this time.

3. Explanation: Your Spiritual Healing will allow for roughly an additional 160 health on a 2000 point heal with 4 points placed into it. You will be losing roughly 60 - 80 health healed with Spirit Tap assuming you have standard gear and thus roughly at 300 Spirit. (You only lose this much additional health due to doubling your spirit and having guidance as a talent.) However, you will be regenerating mana at 50% rate or roughly 100 mana every 5 seconds for 15 seconds with the above level of 300 spirit. This will allow you to cast an additional "x" rank heal which will place at a significantly higher level of total heals. Now the downside... you have to become effective in learning how to steal kills, and truthfully the mana regen part is somewhat misleading as you need to take into account the 200 mana to SW:D someone, but it still works out in your favor over the course of a series of battles, or boss fights that feature multiple trash mobs.

Enough of me... for now.

Oops... one more thing... look into running AV and getting the Cold Forged Hammer... plus mana regen and + healing. Then you can place something in your offhand for higher stats or more + healing as well. It was what I did at or around your level.
