Folks;

My lock just leveled to 32 and I had an extra point, so I put it in nightfall. I figured that a 2% chance to proc was insanely low, but didn't have a better place to put it. I'm tooling around in the caverns in Thousand Needles (trying to find the scroll for the fel-puppy and having no luck, but I digress) and this thing procs all the time! Does the 2% proc off of damage? I'm an affliction lock currently and my standard attack is CoA, Corr, Immol, life tap, drain life while the VW is pounding (drain hunting, I think is what that is called), but I enter a shadow trance quite a lot! Is this normal, or am I seeing a statistical oddity?

It procs off of Drain Life and Corruption ticks. Every tick has a 2% chance of proccing Nightfall. 4% with both talent points, I think.

Since Drain Life ticks every second and Corruption every three seconds, with both spells active your chance to proc Nightfall goes up drastically. Putting Corruption on multiple targets also increases the proc rate of Nightfall since every tick on every target will have a chance to proc it.

Pewpew Shadow Bolt machine gun!

Kewl! It is odd (IMHO) that this isn't in the destruction tree, no? I have a mage as well, so it's like a POM type of thing that you only get to cast shadow bolt with, but since it does 150 or so damage, it's usually an instant kill when mobs get low on health. :-) This is going to be great when I get back into the BGs! Put corruption on everyone I see and fire them insta-cast shadowbolts!

Your Shadow Bolt does 150 damage? Awww, that's so cute! Smiley: blush

I remember back when my Warlock was just a youngling. Those tiny Shadow Bolts that would insta-gib on crits. Would drain your mana in a heartbeat too.

Now my Shadow Bolts hit for 1000+ and crit for 2000+. You have a lot of fun ahead of you.

It's odd to go from my 70 mage (POM + AP + Pyro that has crits for around 4-5K) to a shadowbolt that crits for less than my mage's wand. ;-)

ktangent,

I'm affliction specced and nightfall has got to me my favorite talent, right behind instanst cast corrup! Last night I was running a raid and the first I would do when pulling we pulled mobs is hit TAB--->corruption and put it on everyone. Imagine 4% chance on every tick, but I'm ticking 5 times a second. I was hitting my my instant shadow bolts like crazy!!! I love it...not to mention the number of times I pulled a win out of a 1-on-1 PvP match because this just decided to proc at a critical point.

IMO, put another point in it!

love NF, but be careful with it. It is so hard to not use an instant shadow bolt when this procs. Sometimes it is a waste, such as if the mob has almost no hp left with your dots still ticking away, then it is just a waste of mana to sling that SB at the nearly dead mob.

Well the tallent Nightfall is a affliction tallent that boosts Shadowbolt, it is a tallent that affects corruption and drain life, making it a good fit in the affiction tree. I think that tree Syndergy is one of the best parts of the game, for example the Shaman Tallent Natures Swiftness is a resto tallent, but it seems to work at some of its best when used with elemental spells, or the druid tallent Omen Of clairty, it is a resto tallent, but realy dose not come in to its own untill you use it as a feral setup.

My outlook is that Nightfall gives a boon to players in the form of burst dammage, heck we all need a little right? I mean the Destrution tree has improved immolate, well thats mostly a DoT, so shouldnt it be in affliciton?(even though Immolate is clearly a distructo spell). I could see a reason for moving all kinds of tallents arround if that was the motivation, for example Dark Pact, dont that sound like a demo spell?(well it dose to me).

For me though, it dose not matter where it is, I would find a way to work it in to my build.

...mmm. That's actually not such a bad idea. spamming corruption around in a raid for NF procs. Since it can proc as many times as it wants (not once per eight seconds, like backlash..) that could be deadly.

Still sounds too gimickey for me.
