Is The Other Side Greener?Follow

Hey what's up,

I'm thinking about respeccing to fire (or Arcane/Fire) to try it out and see how I like it for leveling. Before I do I wanted to ask a few questions and make sure it's the right thing to do.

This is probably the build I'll go with: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?2500350000230100000000050523001030303105310500000000000000000000000

Bear in mind, I'm also considering an Arcane/Fire:

Is Fire mainly for PvP?
Is Fire mana efficent? (i.e will I be having down time a lot, compared to frost?)
Would Fire be effective/close to frost effectiveness for solo leveling?

Thanks,
Enigmen

Both are very good. Fire's abilities come a little earlier than frost's whose core abilities, ice barrier and water elemental, come near the end. I love endgame frost, but I am sleepy now and will babble later perhaps. In a different thread.

Well... here's my two cents. For damage output, I think 10/48/3 is the ruling spec currently. It is very mana efficient (perhaps 17/41/3 may be more efficient) and does good raid damage. It has some longevity. It doesn't *rock* for PVP. For PVP if you were frost, you'll miss the ice block (badly) cold snap, reduced cool down for frost nova, etc. I wanted to do Raid/PVP/PVE and came up with a hybrid build: 34/27/0 which has some of the good damage goodies you get from the fire tree along with an expanded mana pool and POM/AP from arcane. So, this is decent for PVP and PVE... in raids when you go on an endurance kill, I can clear 100K damage on my mana pool alone by reverting to a scorch mage (I know, I tested it on Dr. Boom before I respecced). So, you have some endurance capabilities, some great burst damage and decent PVP damage.

I still think frost is best for PVP, but we'll see after the frost nova diminishing returns nerf + hypothermia nerf. I honestly think the first nerf is worse than the second.

Hope this helps!

This is great! I just wanted to know pretty much if Arcane/Fire or just Fire would be very viable for PvE. I'll be PvPing at 70, until then I'm mainly going to be soloing and doing the occasional instance.

I have posted my desired build in the post, however I will play around with some of the builds you've mentioned.

Arcane / Fire works great for PVE/ PVP/ soloing, you can usually 2hit normal mobs, and you dont really run outta mana much. and its pretty good for PVP.
I just turned deep fire and i must say I love it...

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in too :)

Arcane/Fire can be worked into a pretty good PvP/PvE hybrid build. Obviously, it will not be the "best" at either but will be good enough for both. Having said that though, Arc/Fire does do well in Battlegrounds but is weak in Arena PvP. This usually isn't a problem unless you are seriously into Arena PvP.

So I have respecced to Arc/Fire for my grind to 54 tonight (I hit it, too) and I must admit I'm loving it. Multi mob pulls are harder for me, but doable. Single mob pulls rock, and the mana efficiency is through the roof. I have down time once in between my evocation cool down, which I really like. The one thing I dislike is the lack, or feeling of control. I knew that going into it, but was hoping that my damage output could make it so CC wasn't as important.

Oh well, the variety has let me keep interest in my mage for now...as I was starting to get a little burnt out.

if your like me you will like fire thought personally i like pure fire at 54 DRAGONS BREATH FTW its a great spell CoC pales in comparison with it and it makes my instance aoe damage just that much better great in BRD on the non elite puppies just dragons breath frost nova back up flame strike than blast wave and they should be dead or almost dead but i plan on a 10/48/3 build at 70 because it sounds godly in raids and i wish to serve my new guild well upon hitting 70.
