Hunters WeaponFollow

Yes,

I am aware of this term, however I don't wish to discuss it. I could not think of a better thread title for what I want to discuss :p

Any way I have just hit level 27 as a Dwarven Hunter however I am at a loss as to what type of Melee weapon I should have.

Currently I am a main hand axe (forgot the name) and a Headsplitter in my Off Hand (Both Axes)

Now on my server there doesn't seem to be much on the AH I can look through to compare stats. However I was wondering:

Currently I love my Axes and have quite a high level in Axe Skill (and on the money I dropped on the Headsplitter I don't intend to give in easily :p). Will I get "shunned" in the future because I use axes.

Polearms look pretty good, but I just don't know.

Any suggestions from you master hunters on what class of weapons I should be using, and will having a skill of 0 in that weapon skill currently affect anything?

Regards,

Ryan

Go with whatever benefits your range the most. NO strength, little spirit, lots of agi, int, and stam.

Remember the cardinal rule: Every weapon, no matter how much it is suited for a caster, melee, or anyone else in your group, unless it is a Mace, is a Hunter weapon. Roll "Need" immediately. Hell, even if it's a mace, roll "Need". You'll be sure to get lots of group invitations once you're decked out with a few weapons with interesting "Chance on melee hit" procs or +Healing/spell damage.

Ok, less tongue-in-cheek...
As you level, use whatever weapon or pair of weapons you find that give you the best total boost to your AP. STA is the next most important stat, followed by INT or MP/5.

Your racial bonus with axes is almost worthless, so don't pass over a sword or dagger with better base stats based on that racial ability. And don't worry about your weapon skill either. If you find a better weapon of a type you haven't used in a few levels, or ever, it'll only take a few minutes of beating on green or grey mobs to build your skill up to a respectable level for those rare times when you'll need to swing a weapon in melee. Put on AotM, send Pet, and run in and melee on those green/grey mobs, and you'll see how fast your skill will climb.

I've got the same question .
I'm a 24 Draenei hunter, BM spec .
I'm currently using a 2H sword [don't remember what it is or the stats on it] .
I guess I should try other weapons to see what suits me best, but I just don't want to spend the extra money[or time], then decide I don't like the weapon .

I really am at a loss ...
Polearms, duel-wield swords, axes ...
2H weapons ...
There's alot of choice, and I just don't know where to go from here .

The only time your choice matters, really, is if you have a talent that boosts the weapon type.

In other words, if you're not an arms warrior, a combat rogue, or an enhancement shaman, (which, since you're a hunter, you're not) then it does not matter. Go with the best stats.

Hell, I used a dagger on my prot warrior, because all the daggers I found had a lot of +stam on them. A hunter with 2 daggers, 2 swords, 2 axes, a staff, a polearm, a 2-hand sword, or a 2-hand axe, assuming they all have the same stats, will be just as good as any other.

The ONLY time melee weapons should be considered for their melee attributes is if you PvP a lot, because you'll joust (wing clip + raptor strike) a lot, for those you want a slow 2-hander. But even then, it doesn't matter a whole lot.

At lvl 55 I have expirimented with a wide variety of set ups . My main piece of cutlery is a Frenzied striker pole arm with an Impact enchant . I also run with a duel wield 1h sword and dagger combo enchanted with elemental slaying . I do Elemental Leather Working so the second set of blades is just for killing elementals for materials .

At any rate , scince you are reluctant to give up that nifty 1h. axe. try a dagger in the off hand to get in those quick strikes to complement the slightly slower axe . Just my opinion . In the long run however , I would suggest looking into Polearms . They really tend to offer good hunter stats and although a little slower , they do good DPS and mongoose bite crits are pretty gnarly . Get one of those pork stickers with an enchant on it and I'm sure you will not be un-happy .

no offense... but what your saying is pretty much *********

stats > everything else for melee weapons if you are a hunter.
wether that is a polearm, 2 daggers, a staff or a 1h sword + offhand, stats are the only thing that really matters.
if you have different weapons/setups with equal stats to choose from, take the weapon with the highest min/max dmg for good raptor strike crits.

follow that, and you will have the best possible thing. always

Ya, that's another thing. Considering all stats equal, should a hunter just go for higher damage and completely ignore dps/speed on a weapon? Ideally, you're only doing one strike before getting to range again, so speed shouldn't matter right? Or is that completely wrong? Seems logical to me. Stats first of course, then damage second, not dps.

yes, you shouldnt hit more then twice before getting back to range (wing clip+raptor strike)
therefore, speed doesnt matter, dps doesnt matter min-max damage matters (a little bit =P)
