how does a MM beat a BM?Follow

#1 Apr 23 2007 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
of all the classes in bgs that I can't beat or i'm afraid to attack them, they are: druids(only if they stay in dire bear form), shamans(if i kite them at41 yards i stand a big chance), and the most formidable foe is a fellow BM hunter.
IF they pop bestial wrath i'm done. most BM hunters have alot of HP so they die very hard.

what do you MM hunters do against them?
and what do you BM hunters say about a MM?

I don't have much experience, but this is where your crowd-control comes into play. I read earlier that a BM hunter is about 60%/40% in terms of DPS, and a marks is 75%/25%, but overall they do the same. So if hunter+beast totals to 200 DPS, and you both CC the other's pet, now the marks is doing 150 while the BM is doing 120.

The other side of the coin is that a bm hunter can better use the MM hunter's deadzone. A BM has less to lose by minimizing ranged dps, so while waiting for your pet to unfreeze you can either weaving in and out of the deadzone for instant shots or just staying totally within it. You can match them wing clip/conc shot for wing clip/conc shot, so their escaping both you and your pet is unlikely.

No personal experience here, just relating what other posts in other threads have said.* Also, as a mm hunter in a battleground pvp setting, I try to save my traps for when the rogue twinks start materializing behind me or the fc is running by. Scare Beast (especially if you're out of their pewpew range) and wing clip ftw.

*I have a decent bit of 19/29 pvp experience, I just rarely get to see what spec my opponents are, except for a few twink regulars who probably outgear and outskill me anyways.

If you read the OP and didn't blindly post, a BM hunter has many ways to remove CC. The OP even said one, Beastial Wrath, this should be common knowledge but if you did not understand, here is the description:

Bestial Wrath
Talent Learned
Rank: 1/1
Catigory: Beast Mastery
Cast Time: 0.0 seconds
Mana: 206
Range: 100 yards
Cooldown: 2 minutes
Duration: 18 seconds
Description: Sends your pet into a rage, causing 50% addition damage for 18 seconds. While enraged, the Beast CANNOT BE STOPPED UNLESS KILLED.

Plus, the have Imp. Mend Pet which has a 50% chance per tick to remove any negative debuff on your pet. And overall, the Beast Mastery hunter usally does more DPS total. I can't confirm this but many other experienced hunter's probaly can.

Now for the OP. This is a trick used by a mage to take me down, although he was 7 levels higher than me, it still might work. Try to get the Hunter CCed so he can't pop Bestial Wrath. Kill his pet, and then you can kill the hunter. You might have to use Scatter Shot the split second the fight starts then run up to him and Freeze Trap. Or if you're survival you can Wyverrn Sting.

I'm BM/mm spec. My fights against a MM Hunter usually go like this: If my cooldowns for BW and Intimidate are up, I win. Easily. If they are not up I lose. Badly.

Make sure you have high attack power and crit chance.

After a volley of arcane, multi-shot, etc that crits, the BM is down fast. Make sure you have enough HP also to withstand the BW and Intimidation.

You can also hit him with scatter shot and silencing shot. Every little bit helps.

It's really a matter of how fast you can dps against a BM hunter.

In my experience, a BM hunter is tough for a MM to beat if they have BW up. However, in the arena, this is easily remedied. Just get out of LOS somewhere, run for a bit, and then feign death. Most of the BW timer will be up by then, and then you can pop up and start the shootout (after you can trap the pet of course). Silencing shot goes a long way, if they try to heal their pet or anything. Pop rapid fire, start wiping them out with multi/arcane/silencing shot/steady shot. It's not a sure win, but you can be competitive.

I mean what do you have left to do if they pop bestial wrath from the start.
If they don't have it ready they are easy pickings for me.

Well, at my level BMs aren't too hard, you just lay down a freeze trap to stop their pet and lay into them. With pets out of the picture, you easily outclass them. There's no bestial wrath at my level though.

I don't know what you do after bestial wrath, that makes things a bit hard. One thing I'd disagree with is attacking their pet instead of them. They still do a lot of damage, and even if you take their pet down, you're through. Kill the pet and you still have to kill them. Kill them and the pet goes away.

I love this game ,,, It's so tech. it freaks me out sometimes .

Recently I re-spec'd to MM from BM/MM hybrid at lvl 55 . The reason I re-spec'd is because our other (MM spec) hunter in my guild has left ... Now I'm the only hunter in our guild (of 25/30 members) and figured we needed a good ranged damage dealer . Lately I've been comming across threads like this one talkin' up th BM .

Frankly , I'm abit torn and confused . Just want to help the team the best I can . I mean I can get along just fine solo regardless of spec thus far . Curious whats works best for a guild comprised mostly of mages , Locks and rogues .

Is there anybody out there who spec's survival ? I never hear the praises of the survivalist ... Ever .

Like I said, the best thing for you to do is to wait out the BW by exploiting line-of-sight issues (if possible), and then feign death, which will grab you a few seconds while the pet is not attacking you. You can also pop deterrence and put on Aspect of the Monkey and deal with their damage (highly mitigated by Deterrence). When deterrence runs out, feign death, and basically by then, BW is almost over and the hunter is going to die.

SV is good for people who have higher agility and crit gear (>500 agi and >25% crit). They are also getting a nice boost in the next patch. Their DPS can be quite good. Also, obviously, it is an excellent choice for PVP.
