Hey guys :)
Im playing a 62 paladin, full retri spec.
So last night I sign up for Blood Furnace, and get into a group with another paladin and a warlock.
The paladin asks wha build I am to which I answer retribution, and says that I carry healing gear around if its neccesary, and I got around 150+healing but also says dont know how much good it will do.
He says he is retribution too, but have around 250 on his normal gear. Im a little puzzled and says that shouldent retri pallies stack agility. strength and attack power ? and hes no thats why so man retri pallies suck.
To which he replies that he crits for around 1200 with SOC and I say I get that too.
He laughs calls and me a liar.
I try explaining him that my dammage comes from melee dammage as I believe thats what SOC is based on, but that you could possibly get the same results with + spelldammage. But you would have to judge more often to get crits.
He calls me a noob and leaves group.
Now am I completly wrong about retri spec paladins ? because then I need to be working on new gear..

No your right in the aspect that you need to focus on strength, agility, and stamina. But you also need to have a good amount of + crit and + spell damage. SOC goes off melee but crusader strike goes of spell damage. When i was ret i focused on +crit, stam, strength, agil, and then + spell and intel. All in that order. And dont worry about what other people think, if you are happy with the way your fighting then more power to you.

Ret has 3 methods of gearing for dps:
1)+AP, +agi, +crit, +hit
2)+int, +spell, +spell crit
3)mix of 1 and 2

you can acheive similar results using either of the 3 methods. however, the playstyle will differ slightly. most Ret abilities take advantage of BOTH melee and spell stats. if you skimp on one you will be lack the added bonuses of the other.

i currently roll with method #1 for my dps gear. i crit alot on SoC, JoC, CS but i dont get the bonus +spell dmg on those crits. method #2 is just the opposite: less crits, harder holy hits. method #3 evens these out and also adds staying power. neither of these is better than the other.
