Spirit tap *absolutely* necessary?Follow

#1 Apr 17 2007 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
Me again. I'm just wondering if Spirit Tap is really all that necessary to have for leveling up. I've read some guides about it, but as I'm primarily a PvPer those points really could be valuable somewhere else as I take up the brackets. Have some people here leveled without it, and was it really that difficult to do without ST?

Thanks

no talent is *absolutely* necessary ... but it is the most advantageous talent you can take at the lowest tier cost to take for leveling ... just do it! :)

No spirit tap just means you can't do as many mobs in a row without stopping to drink. I leveled all the way without spirit tap and yes, I carried a lot of water and paused between mobs.

I'm not sure what your pvp scenario is, but if you fight groups of people and don't have much time to rest, running out of mana could be bad.

I know under some conditions like in a group where you aren't doing the killing blow, spirit tap may not help much. Does someone have experience with spirit tap in BG?

Well, we WSG pretty much every other night and heavy on the weekends, and we level in packs. That sums up the situation as it stands now - it could very well change and I could end up soloing for those levels between brackets.

And thanks for the quick responses. Its one of those things where, when I'm soloing and don't have ST, I'll be cursing myself, but if I do have it during close matches I'll be cursing myself some more ^^

*edit* Just to respond to the question of Spirit Tap in BGs, I did have this talent with another priest, and while in BGs it rarely, if ever, activated. The killing blow is very hard to get.

Blackout really is a PvP talent IMO. It hardly ever procs enough to be worthwhile. One thing you can do with blackout is spam rank 1 SWP until blackout procs. For PvE levelling, yea spirit tap is a must have.

I didn't really know what I was doing while leveling :P I ran 3 points in Spirit Tap, long time ago (year and a half or so); I use 3 points right now for farming. Necessary? No. Helps immensely (even with just 3)? Definitely.

no matter what anyone says, Spirit Tap is not nessecary, but youre stupid to not take it. any tree you spec for, spirit tap will help. holy and disc gets +dmg from it, shadow you need all the mana you can get....so to not take it is like cutting off your own foot. im holy and i have it. it works in pvp, after it procs, 190+dmg + spirit tap = +237 spell dmg.....definatly work it.

I have a few in spirit tap (three as well) and I mainly BG at the moment - I can say that I love it big time. I'm lvl 48 and can get the killing blow very often. I crit more often than not with my mindblast, and it's good for around 700-800 damage which, especially on clothies after I dispel anything that might reduce the damage, is good enough to get a killing blow. It will even trigger when I get a lucky kb off SW:P, it really does go a long way for me in the craziness of BGing. I've had it save me quite a bit when I was running after a flag carrier, killed it with just enough mana, ST procs, some one else grabs flag before I can - and often time have just enough to kill them as well. Without it I would have to blow a pot or just run after them and pray some one else comes along to kill them. That is a very unlikely scenario, but I've had it happen and it made me love having it. Like some one said early, nothing is 100% necessary per say, but some things certainly go a long way to help. I would have also hated leveling with out it!

spirit tap really shines when you carry around a +spirit heavy set. i kept one around for leveling. good instances to get spr gear are sunken temple/uldaman, just some examples.

sure you won't have a lot of mana or health, but imagine a mini-evocation after each kill. be sure to keep a stam/int set for instances :D

spirit tap is the ultimate tool for farming/leveling/grinding. I'm a holy dps'er with spirit tap, and with 2 trinkets that regenerate mana (bangle of endless blessing, deck: blue dragon) I can just farm forever (not only shadow can do this). I was farming last night for motes of mana in netherstorm and i only eated 2 times in 1 hour. And that's because i was like 1k mana, 1k health. And i don't even wait for spirit tap to end, just go on and on killing. Well.. the mobs there are easy to kill and hit for little, but it's almost the same with water elementals in skettis or fire elem. in nagrand.

if you carry a lot of water around, you'll do fine without spirit tap. Just stop to drink for a little bit after every couple mobs.

imo, spirit tap saves u alot money in total..
couldn't play without it <3, rly love it,

especially versus shaman mobs, since u can onehit their totems, and gain ST from it, too bad the next patch is disabling this "bug"..

if u wanna save money, and dont like to pause, get ST :), or at least get 2/5 or 3/5..

Spirit tap is amazing, and I don't see why any priest would skip it. While leveling up I focus mostly on int and spirit, and with spirit tap I regen back all the mana I use during the fight afterwards and before I attack the next mob. Basically, that means I can go on and on forever without having to stop. I've played mages, and it was pretty annoying having to drink after every couple mobs. Spirit tap is just amazing!

As stated numerous times... it is not necessary, but it is hugely helpful. In regards to it's use in BG's... wait till you get SW: Death. You will be able to steal killing blows all the time and it is worth the extra regen for sure whether you are Holy/Disc or shadow.

As one post stated before, if you Disc heavy then the +spirit bonus is quadrupled in effect as it is increasing your +damage while allowing for greater regen during casting.

With practice on mobs you will be able to have it proc on almost 75% of your mobs in groups as you will be able to time the SW:D to get the kill.

Bottomline, it will significantly increase your speed of leveling and allows for you to have greater staying power in BG's as you will rarely run out of mana.
