hi, all

im a level 67 holy spec pally. the other day i fought a lvl 66 shaman in world pvp. i fought him 2 times, both times we each with full hp/mp and both times i lost (first match he beat me down, second i almost got him but he got to me at the end). i dont know what bag of tricks shamans have so are there any tips on handling shamans? i dont know what type of shaman he is, all i know is that he didnt even use much totems against me. also, he used a 1h mace i think and an off hand *shrug*. i could be wrong with that one. anywoo, any info on shamans would be nice. thanks

If he was dual-wielding, he was most likely enhancement spec (there are some people who came up with weird dual wield builds with other specs, but that's rather rare). Anyway, your best bet is standard pally tactics, just try and outlast him. Bait him into using earthshock with fake heals, heal while earthshock is on cool down (5 or 6 seconds, depending on talents), basically make him waste his whole mana pool, and then take him down.

Don't let your health get too low, though, because shamans can put out some huge burst damage. And watch out for him purging you...I'm not sure if purge will take out auras, but it will almost certainly remove blessings/righteous fury/etc.

Anyway, good luck, and hopefully next time you see him, you give him a bit of a surprise :)

I'vent installed TBC yet (because my computer suck and I hate lag). So i'm stuck at lvl 60 and I only PVP (Battlegrounds). Which means that I in AB and WSG is up against lvl 69. I've learned that any class up to lvl 66 is not a problem to kill if I play my cards right nd don't have bubble on CD, except shamans. Even it they're are 4-6 lvls higher I should be able to kill them imo. But how am I suposed to kill a spell specialized (enhancment?) Shaman? They always start with a chain lightning crit, and if I'm unlucky I get 2.7k lightning damage bursted in my face. I'm holy speced, if I try to live them out they just burst me to death. Any good tips against shamans? Except that I go and roll a shaman myself to learn their weakness.

No you shouldnt be able to kill something 4-6 levels higher then you. A 60-62 jump is alot higher then a 58-60 maybe even a 56-60. Every level or two can put a major gap between you and your opponents.

Honestly I've never really fought a shaman on my pally. I only do arena or group world PvP with him. All I know is that they have a very low mana pool.

Enh. Shamans shouldn't be to hard with their nerf to WF. However they can still hit hard and fast so dont underestimate them.

Ele shamans can be a ***** with their shocks. And resto's can survive a good amount of time, but not more then a paladin. It shouldnt be hard to outlast em.

One more thing to be said about level gap: At your particular level, each level is the equivalent of... I dunno, 2-3 levels. With all the new gear you get in Outlands, a level 60 is much worse against a 62 than a 42 would be against a 44.

just understand this... for a well geared pally ALL shaman are a joke... i NEVER lose to any of them EVER 1-1 with just under 11k hp unbuffed and 7800 mana ( in dps gear) a thunder mace and a few gladiator pieces..all told giving me 1400 AP I really don't care what they hit me for.. it aint enough...

duel wield shaman? ROFL just announce to me that you like to die.

auras CANNOT be purged.... neither can bubbles..... but everything else u do can... remember tho...it wont matter.... even tho they think it will...

a smart pally beats a shaman every time 1-1... couple of keys...

#1 SAVE your HOJ use it defensively or to interrupt heals

#2 you can cleanse anything they put on you.. frost shock etc

#3... dont overlook seal of justice... it works wonders against them... and of course get some gear to reduce the time of the hammer of justice stun... between that and repentance they are worthless against pallys.... WAIT for them to start trying a heal and then repentance... heal yourself... and crusader strike/judgement of command.. ( macro works wonders for it and it hits HARD)

apart from that remember.... duel wield shaman are ALWAYS a 100% joke... they think they are rogues or warriors... and they dont do NEAR the damage against plate....because they have ZERO mitigation of plate armor... couple that with the fact that they wear mail... and by duel wielding give up a near 100% armor boost by not equipping a shield.

SMART pallys > ANY shaman in this game ALWAYS.

If you're lucky enough to be fighting a shaman who isn't terribly smart, you can just keep casting rank 1 Blessings of Might. Many times they will keep purging it, running down their mana pool while you lose very little.

xarxes, you're posting from a Retro Pally's point of view.

Furthermore,

False. Elemental Shammies will burn right through your armor. Crit Chain Lighting FTW.

Quote:

They wouldn't want to purge your bubble. They'll heal when you'll heal. (Unless you try to use the bubble offensively, in which case they might be a bit pissed.)

Quote:

He'll do the same with his Earthshock, which is on a significantly lower cooldown.

Quote:
#2 you can cleanse anything they put on you.. frost shock etc

True, just be careful of the mana you spend cleansing. If you cleanse stuff that doesn't hinder you you'll just be OoM faster.

Sadly, anyone becomes immune to those stuns after 2-3 stuns.

Again, solely from a Retro Pally's PoV.

because they have ZERO mitigation of plate armor

This I just didn't understand. O_o

Yep. Fake spells work wonders against classes you want to drain of their mana.

I have a shaman friend i duel all the time. he beats me most of the time. actually only way i beat him is lucky crits of the skin of my teeth. elemental shamans are siiiiick dps and can shut you up any time you heal unless you HoJ or repentance. thats only 2 times to heal in the duel and they can heal a decent amount in a very short time, in other words hard to shut them up. so i im not sure about enhancement or resto spec shammy's but elemental could beat pali most of the time but not all.

I actually forgot to post that one trick which seems to work especially well against more single-minded Shammies I've met so far. (At least those who were Elem. Enhance are a good laugh to Pallies, little more)

Turn on Concentration Aura (Even better if you have Imp Conc Aura, or Spiritual Focus from the Prot and Holy trees respectively) and put Blessing of Light on yourself. Start a Holy Light and quickly cancel it. Most Shammies will use Earthshock at that point so while it's on cooldown, cast FoL or HL depending on how much health you lost.

Rinse and repeat.

You'll find that the Shammy's mana depletes VERY quickly. Their shocks may be instant and all, but they cost a lot. Soon enough he'll be hitting on you with his stick, and that's when you kill him. He may or may not have kept mana for healing but even if he did he'll just live a bit longer, nothing more.
